@TC-sl8ol not really. Some people do use it in a meme way, but it started in Ernest. If you actually get good because you watch the boss patterns, movements, when to take openings & play by the rules the game gives you vs trying to force your own will, the games aren't actuslly that hard 90% of the time. Most people don't this & instead button mash, don't observe attack patterns, panic roll/ panic heal, etc.

For me, something that reminded me a lot of a previous FromSoft DLC is the greatsword Milady; the way the player holds it out to the side is very reminiscent to one of the attacks Lady Maria does in Bloodborne.
I think it's a twofer pun, and it opens a really interesting door the three norse fates were Urd [Erd] Skuld [which in japanese would be skardu, with the u silent] and Verdande, see why this is an interesting door, because if we have an urd tree and Skuld tree doesn't that suggest the potential of a third, Verdande, tree the maiden norns [all the same age in norse myth]live in a cave under Yggdrassil - the world tree..... We’re currently at the Puttrescent Knight and I’m in Awe. This thing is so clearly inspired by the Nuckelavee, an absolutely HORRIFIC legend from the Orkney Isles about a ghastly centaur like creature that rises from the depths of the oceans during the winter months. One of the few creatures of myth with absolutely ZERO positive traits about him, he represents the resentment of the time of famine and shortages the people of the area experienced in the old days. But he’s a pretty obscure legend and I never thought I’d see him represented in a game. This is awesome that he’s inspired this incredible boss fight!

The idea of Rennala having a hitherto-unmentioned younger sister named Rellana who abandoned her family to ally with the new villain (and is presumably more powerful than Rennala, given her placement in DLC taking place after Mohg) is the most fanfic-y concept I’ve ever heard in a FromSoft game and I love it

When you look at their horned armor, their locations in Stormveil and Sol, use of lightning/storm attacks, and the flowing lion on their heraldry, I think there is strong evidence that the Banished Knights, O'Neil and Niall were all originally from the same culture as the Lion Dancer People and were "banished" from the Land of Shadow.
It’s very cool how you pointed out that banished knights (including the Commanders) have omen-horned armour AND that they have manipulation over storm. This is a cool discovery made from the fact the we learn that the Omen-horned divine beasts are sent from the heavens - from which storm is most abundant. I’d also like to add that there are these bird enemies (although they resemble more Deathbird imagery than Stormhawks) that are in the same city as the divine lion beasts - and stormhawks inhabit areas that are riddled with Bansihed Knights
isn't there various NPC's who also mention an Eclipse of some sort at castle sol? along with the eclipse shotel? Those things are directly connected to Miquella, too, who seems to be a focus of the DLC. Interesting connection

I think the Land of Shadow is basically the lobby of the afterlife. people arrive in the land of shadows, stay there for a bit, and get sorted into their beliefs, some might worship the Helphen or the Erdtree (this is also why i think we'll meet Godwyn and Radhan). I wondered why the Lands Between was called "The Lands Between". I figured it was because it was in the middle of all these lands like Eochade and The Land of Reeds, but now I figure The Lands Between is between The Land of Shadow and some opposite version of The Land of Shadow.

I thought that I heard martial arts was also going to be acquired skill, no weapon required just bare hand. But I haven’t watched the whole vid yet to get the martial arts yet
@@monhi64 It's technically a weapon. You equip them, but there's no actual visible weapon, but the martial arts are modifiable like a weapon, and also can be effected by scaling and etc like one.
The animations for those claws blew me away. I love how animalistic and ferocious they are, contrasted by Milady's graceful dancing. It still baffles me how we're getting eight entirely new weapon types and if they've put as much effort into all of them as the ones shown here, we're in for a real treat. Rellana's Twinblade also sounds chuuni as all hell and I wouldn't have it any other way.
This is something that's bothered me in FromSoft games for a while. The "greatswords" have always been more Beserk blades than actual longswords/greatswords and as much as I love a big heavy chunk of metal, two-handing a basic sword has always felt better - that's what ultra-greatswords and the like were for.

I think the fact that Mesmer has his own butterflies in the DLC proves that Melina is one of Marika's children, and the smouldering butterflies are hers. Maybe her "curse" was that she was born a spirit and has never been able to move about on her own.
She's the gloam eyed queen, who Marika bodied but probably didn't want to fully get rid of as a backup plan against the 3 fingers. She threatens you with destined death.

It's a possibility, but don't say that as though it's a fact Especially since there's nothing saying that the Gloam Eyed Queen can't be Marika's daughter. We don't know the timeline

The light greatsword is my literal dream elden ring weapon, a true longsword. The "longswords" of elden ring were tiny and the greatswords were way too big. So hype about this unexpected addition.

The dance being turned towards martial ends is exactly how Capoeira became a Brazilian martial art against prison guards and slave drivers. It was a combination of religious dances from the area and West Africa where the enslaved people were brought from, and practiced as a dance but was used to fight back, escape, and to defend themselves. Becoming so effective it became outlawed in Brazil where gangs and local warlords would use them as personal guard, like samurai. Not a 1-to-1, I totally understand, but a fun parallel.

They still have omen horns. From my understanding, Belurat - and the Shadow Realm in general - will make use of the opportunity for treating omens MUCH better with how they’re treated by the Golden Order in the basegame. Evidence: in the *basegame* those who have horns are said to be signs of “omenbirth”. But notice how the word “omen” (SO FAR from this video, regarding omen lore) is never used in the *DLC* but instead: “divine”, “hornsent” etc. Omen seems to be a word created by Golden Order fundamentalists to demean them. And in the Shadow Lands, they’re the “hornsent” due to their close relations to divinity
I have one character that's level 150 that's right before the fire giant, Mogh and Malenia. Sparing Mogh until the DLC comes out is mainly just as a fun celebration once the DLC comes out, but I'm also curious if Leda will be summonable for the fight

There seems to be a theme of Messmer being more “headstrong” and “determined” - is some ways - than many of his men/soldiers. The Black Knight armour suggests that the black knights followed Messmer in his Rebellion - similar to how leftover Leyndell Knights followed Rykard into rebellion - until (just like Rykard’s men) found out their lord had greater goals and ideals, regarding the symbol of the Serpent. Already, there seems to be so much parallel to the basegame’s Rykard (who likely took inspiration from Messmer), so I wonder if Rellana’s story will be easily extrapolated by looking at Rykard’s relationship with Tannith?
Seeing the Dancing Lion in action and hearing its name just made me realize that it's not a monster but a bunch of dudes (maybe omens) in a lion costume made to resemble the Chinese Dancing Dragons that you see in parades and festivals during Chinese New Year. They're basically puppeteers performing a "dance" to attack the player.
Some info on Ballarat for the lore seekers. Ballarat, as other have mentioned is a town in Australia. The name derived from two Aboriginal words meaning “resting place”. You can interpret “resting place” in two ways: somewhere to stop and rest along a journey; and the place where someone is buried (i.e. their final resting place). Both contexts could be applicable here, depending on whether you look at it from the perspective of Miquella’s travels or what happened to the inhabitants when Messmer burned the town. Ballarat was the scene of an armed rebellion known as the Eureka Stockade (more info on Wikipedia), but briefly the locals demanded political reform and more freedoms, and the authorities responded in force, shooting 25 people. Parallels with Messmer perhaps?
The problem with that is, its locked behind the DLC (along with every new weapon type) which means you have to pretty much beat most of the base game to access it which sucks.. albeit i suppose with communities like patches emporium.. it will be possible to get dlc gear instantly on a new character.. Hmmmm idk, i just wish the dlc didnt require beating a large portion of the base game just to access
If someone already mentioned this my bad but the knight of the solitary jail is 100% a nod to Berserk. The armor is almost exactly the the same as the the berserker armor minus the helmet, the description of the greatsword also connects to the berserker armor in that weilding the armor essentially takes the life from the wearer to heighten their prowess. The description mentions 2 engravings depicting the light of birth and solitude probably referencing the falcon of light (Griffith) and his rebirth at the tower of conviction along with the struggler (Guts) and his self-inflicted fight with solitude at different points throughout his journey. Top it off with a bit of repeating crossbow icing and we have a big ole Berserk reference cake

My theory is that the inside of the erdtree is the underworld, and marika is holding the erdtree closed in the trailer blocking those from death from breaking through. That’s why the tree is closed in game and golden order spells do extra damaged vs undead. Also makes sense why the catacombs are connected to tree roots and how dead godwyn has corrupted trees and death root is dying tree roots. Could be wrong but a lot tied together
That kinda tracks with my theory that inside of the Erdtree is answer to why Elden Ring's setting is called "The Land's Between." In the fight with the Elden Beast you see the same giant towers that you do you in Ash Lash in DS1 and the Hunter's Dream in Blood Born. It's not a terribly fleshed out theory and there's not a lot of evidence for it, but I always that it was fun to image that Elden Ring took place in "The Lands Between" all other FromSoft games.
Marika is indeed deeply tied to the Erdtree and the Greater Will. As the vassal of the Greater Will, she becomes the bearer of the Elden Ring, which is the source of the Erdtree's power. The idea that Marika might be holding the Erdtree closed aligns with her role as a guardian and enforcer of the Greater Will's power. This could explain her imprisonment within the Erdtree after the shattering of the Elden Ring. I want to see how my base game weapons handle them before I start trying out the new weapons. Godskin Peeler got me through Placidusax, Radagon, and Elden Beast, so I'm going to see how they like black flame tornado. The Bloodhound's Fang also hasn't steered me wrong yet. That said, I was grinning massively when he said that quality builds would be eating good in the DLC since that's the character I'm going in with first. I have a second faith-based build character, but she's way too early to even think about the DLC.
Interesting little tidbits i picked up during the wait 1. The banished knights, and their commanders, O'Neal and Niall, have mastery over storms 2. Both of them seem to follow Miquella 3. O'Neal and Niall are both Irish names 4. The Hornsent npc from the previews speaks with an Irish accent 5. The Hornsent people worship beasts/dragons, and revere those capable of creating storms
Oh God, the light greatsword sounds exactly like the type of weapon I've always wanted in these games. I'm a greatsword main but I always thought they were just little bit slow. I'm gonna be collecting _all_ the weapons and armor.

something that just hit me is the blessings from the tree are probobly how the erdtree blessing USED to work, and helps show its decline since it is no longer granting those around it strength and vitaltiy
the weapons that were showed off really make it feel like we're playing as enemies and bosses, even more than some of the more intense weapon arts and movesets in the base game other than like, maybe waterfowl dance. Beast Claws and the Light Greatsword especially stand out to me.
The Light Greatsword animations look like your character spent the last 2 years farming Melania to learn her fighting style, and then made it their own.
Started the dlc an hour ago, and just like you said in the video, the first thing I did was head straight to the furnace golem boss. It's surprisingly easy to kill if you're on horseback. The only attacks that can hit you are it's foot stomps, and you can just jump over the shockwaves to completely avoid the damage

The first meaning of "leda" is the verb "lead," "to lead" being "att leda" in Swedish, and obviously she is leading us into the DLC and toward Miquella. The second meaning is the noun "leda" cognate with the English "loathing" but with a slightly different meaning, denoting a sense of existential boredom and ennui, or the sense of being deeply tired and weary. To be "led" with someone does not mean that you loath them, but rather that you are fed up with them. Fromsoft do seem to like hiding character clues in different languages, like "lapp" meaning "patch" in Swedish and Lapp being Patches alter ego in DS3:tRC.

All the major channels dropping almost the exact same 'I Played Elden Ring's DLC...' video, but Vaati's is the only that I'd immediately watch and trust.
A couple of observations from a Swede; Leda, as a verb means to lead, to guide, to direct or to be in a position of leadership in Swedish, so it would be a fitting name for our guide. However as a noun; Leda can mean a sense of boredom, displeasure or aversion, especially towards something you've had too much of. It would be kind of cool if that was intentional and she ends up betraying us or something, because she's had enough of the quest she has set out on. Also; Freyja is a goddess in Norse mythology and Ymir was the giant in Norse mythology who was the ancestor of all Jötnar(Giants) and whose body was basically used to create the world. Could potentially be some interesting allusions to events in the game.

Elden Ring was my first ever souls game and i got it pretty close to launch, so you can say i am a relatively new souls player ever since then ive fallen in love with miyazaki's work and have played Bloodborne (DLC included), Demon's Souls and DS3, working on getting platinum for most of them as the next game I plan on getting is Sekiro i love your work and im glad to be another fellow player with you as my main source of lore and secrets, i cant wait to play the dlc and im just thankful for having discovered this genre of games that i absolutely adore, we are definetely in for a good time

If you actually get good because you watch the boss patterns, movements, when to take openings & play by the rules the game gives you vs trying to force your own will, the games aren't actuslly that hard 90% of the time. Most people don't this & instead button mash, don't observe attack patterns, panic roll/ panic heal, etc.

For me, something that reminded me a lot of a previous FromSoft DLC is the greatsword Milady; the way the player holds it out to the side is very reminiscent to one of the attacks Lady Maria does in Bloodborne.

We’re currently at the Puttrescent Knight and I’m in Awe. This thing is so clearly inspired by the Nuckelavee, an absolutely HORRIFIC legend from the Orkney Isles about a ghastly centaur like creature that rises from the depths of the oceans during the winter months. One of the few creatures of myth with absolutely ZERO positive traits about him, he represents the resentment of the time of famine and shortages the people of the area experienced in the old days. But he’s a pretty obscure legend and I never thought I’d see him represented in a game. This is awesome that he’s inspired this incredible boss fight!

When you look at their horned armor, their locations in Stormveil and Sol, use of lightning/storm attacks, and the flowing lion on their heraldry, I think there is strong evidence that the Banished Knights, O'Neil and Niall were all originally from the same culture as the Lion Dancer People and were "banished" from the Land of Shadow.

It’s very cool how you pointed out that banished knights (including the Commanders) have omen-horned armour AND that they have manipulation over storm. This is a cool discovery made from the fact the we learn that the Omen-horned divine beasts are sent from the heavens - from which storm is most abundant.
I’d also like to add that there are these bird enemies (although they resemble more Deathbird imagery than Stormhawks) that are in the same city as the divine lion beasts - and stormhawks inhabit areas that are riddled with Bansihed Knights

I think the Land of Shadow is basically the lobby of the afterlife. people arrive in the land of shadows, stay there for a bit, and get sorted into their beliefs, some might worship the Helphen or the Erdtree (this is also why i think we'll meet Godwyn and Radhan). I wondered why the Lands Between was called "The Lands Between". I figured it was because it was in the middle of all these lands like Eochade and The Land of Reeds, but now I figure The Lands Between is between The Land of Shadow and some opposite version of The Land of Shadow.
This realm acts as a transitional space where souls are sorted based on their beliefs and deeds. It’s a place where the dead await their fate, aligning with various afterlife beliefs. The concept of being sorted into worship of different deities like the Helphen or the Erdtree suggests a diverse and multifaceted afterlife system, reflecting the varied cultures and religions in the game.

The animations for those claws blew me away. I love how animalistic and ferocious they are, contrasted by Milady's graceful dancing. It still baffles me how we're getting eight entirely new weapon types and if they've put as much effort into all of them as the ones shown here, we're in for a real treat.
Rellana's Twinblade also sounds chuuni as all hell and I wouldn't have it any other way.

The Light Greatswords are basically IRL Long Swords, and I LOVE it! Exactly what I wanted since the first day I played Elden Ring.
Original greatsword moveset is in the gutter i almost fainted seeing these new weapon attack patterns.

This is something that's bothered me in FromSoft games for a while. The "greatswords" have always been more Beserk blades than actual longswords/greatswords and as much as I love a big heavy chunk of metal, two-handing a basic sword has always felt better - that's what ultra-greatswords and the like were for.
Bloodhound fang is basically a light greatsword. Why it is so good.

I think the fact that Mesmer has his own butterflies in the DLC proves that Melina is one of Marika's children, and the smouldering butterflies are hers.
Maybe her "curse" was that she was born a spirit and has never been able to move about on her own.
She's the gloam eyed queen, who Marika bodied but probably didn't want to fully get rid of as a backup plan against the 3 fingers. She threatens you with destined death.

The light greatsword is my literal dream elden ring weapon, a true longsword. The "longswords" of elden ring were tiny and the greatswords were way too big. So hype about this unexpected addition.

They still have omen horns. From my understanding, Belurat - and the Shadow Realm in general - will make use of the opportunity for treating omens MUCH better with how they’re treated by the Golden Order in the basegame.
Evidence: in the *basegame* those who have horns are said to be signs of “omenbirth”. But notice how the word “omen” (SO FAR from this video, regarding omen lore) is never used in the *DLC* but instead: “divine”, “hornsent” etc.
Omen seems to be a word created by Golden Order fundamentalists to demean them. And in the Shadow Lands, they’re the “hornsent” due to their close relations to divinity

There seems to be a theme of Messmer being more “headstrong” and “determined” - is some ways - than many of his men/soldiers. The Black Knight armour suggests that the black knights followed Messmer in his Rebellion - similar to how leftover Leyndell Knights followed Rykard into rebellion - until (just like Rykard’s men) found out their lord had greater goals and ideals, regarding the symbol of the Serpent.
Already, there seems to be so much parallel to the basegame’s Rykard (who likely took inspiration from Messmer), so I wonder if Rellana’s story will be easily extrapolated by looking at Rykard’s relationship with Tannith?

Ballarat, as other have mentioned is a town in Australia. The name derived from two Aboriginal words meaning “resting place”. You can interpret “resting place” in two ways: somewhere to stop and rest along a journey; and the place where someone is buried (i.e. their final resting place). Both contexts could be applicable here, depending on whether you look at it from the perspective of Miquella’s travels or what happened to the inhabitants when Messmer burned the town.
Ballarat was the scene of an armed rebellion known as the Eureka Stockade (more info on Wikipedia), but briefly the locals demanded political reform and more freedoms, and the authorities responded in force, shooting 25 people. Parallels with Messmer perhaps?

If someone already mentioned this my bad but the knight of the solitary jail is 100% a nod to Berserk. The armor is almost exactly the the same as the the berserker armor minus the helmet, the description of the greatsword also connects to the berserker armor in that weilding the armor essentially takes the life from the wearer to heighten their prowess. The description mentions 2 engravings depicting the light of birth and solitude probably referencing the falcon of light (Griffith) and his rebirth at the tower of conviction along with the struggler (Guts) and his self-inflicted fight with solitude at different points throughout his journey. Top it off with a bit of repeating crossbow icing and we have a big ole Berserk reference cake

My theory is that the inside of the erdtree is the underworld, and marika is holding the erdtree closed in the trailer blocking those from death from breaking through. That’s why the tree is closed in game and golden order spells do extra damaged vs undead. Also makes sense why the catacombs are connected to tree roots and how dead godwyn has corrupted trees and death root is dying tree roots. Could be wrong but a lot tied together
That kinda tracks with my theory that inside of the Erdtree is answer to why Elden Ring's setting is called "The Land's Between." In the fight with the Elden Beast you see the same giant towers that you do you in Ash Lash in DS1 and the Hunter's Dream in Blood Born.
It's not a terribly fleshed out theory and there's not a lot of evidence for it, but I always that it was fun to image that Elden Ring took place in "The Lands Between" all other FromSoft games.
Marika is indeed deeply tied to the Erdtree and the Greater Will. As the vassal of the Greater Will, she becomes the bearer of the Elden Ring, which is the source of the Erdtree's power. I want to see how my base game weapons handle them before I start trying out the new weapons. Godskin Peeler got me through Placidusax, Radagon, and Elden Beast, so I'm going to see how they like black flame tornado. The Bloodhound's Fang also hasn't steered me wrong yet. That said, I was grinning massively when he said that quality builds would be eating good in the DLC since that's the character I'm going in with first. I have a second faith-based build character, but she's way too early to even think about the DLC.

the weapons that were showed off really make it feel like we're playing as enemies and bosses, even more than some of the more intense weapon arts and movesets in the base game other than like, maybe waterfowl dance. Beast Claws and the Light Greatsword especially stand out to me.

Started the dlc an hour ago, and just like you said in the video, the first thing I did was head straight to the furnace golem boss. It's surprisingly easy to kill if you're on horseback. The only attacks that can hit you are it's foot stomps, and you can just jump over the shockwaves to completely avoid the damage
Concerning Leda I just wanted to note a thing about her name. There are two different meanings of the word "leda" in Swedish, one of which is clearly relevant, while the other might turn out to be relevant. The first meaning of "leda" is the verb "lead," "to lead" being "att leda" in Swedish, and obviously she is leading us into the DLC and toward Miquella. The second meaning is the noun "leda" cognate with the English "loathing" but with a slightly different meaning, denoting a sense of existential boredom and ennui, or the sense of being deeply tired and weary. To be "led" with someone does not mean that you loath them, but rather that you are fed up with them.
Fromsoft do seem to like hiding character clues in different languages, like "lapp" meaning "patch" in Swedish and Lapp being Patches alter ego in DS3:tRC.

All the major channels dropping almost the exact same 'I Played Elden Ring's DLC...' video, but Vaati's is the only that I'd immediately watch and trust.
A couple of observations from a Swede;
Leda, as a verb means to lead, to guide, to direct or to be in a position of leadership in Swedish, so it would be a fitting name for our guide.
However as a noun; Leda can mean a sense of boredom, displeasure or aversion, especially towards something you've had too much of.
It would be kind of cool if that was intentional and she ends up betraying us or something, because she's had enough of the quest she has set out on.
Also; Freyja is a goddess in Norse mythology and Ymir was the giant in Norse mythology who was the ancestor of all Jötnar(Giants) and whose body was basically used to create the world.
Could potentially be some interesting allusions to events in the game.
