19:33 The implications of what the helm states, especially at the end, "A small consolation to those forced to wage a war without GRACE or HONOR." These almost EXACT words were mentioned to us by Melina, using the words of Marika, talking about the Tarnished. Which means, all of Messmer's main army, the grunts, were Tarnished that had been cast out of the Lands Between and followed Godfrey (which also explains their uses of axes and their abilities - which are similar to Godfrey's). The Land of Shadow is where they were cast out TO, most of them perishing, and then eventually being re-raised back into the Lands Between as us, the modern Tarnished! This shit blew my mind when I read that description in-game, today.
The phrase "A small consolation to those forced to wage a war without GRACE or HONOR" hints that the main army, the grunts, were indeed Tarnished. These soldiers fought for Godfrey and, upon their defeat or fall from grace, were cast out of the Lands Between. This aligns with Melina's recounting of Marika's words, suggesting that the Tarnished, stripped of their grace, were condemned to fight a war devoid of honor. The Land of Shadows being the place where the Tarnished were cast out to adds depth to the lore. It's depicted as a harsh, unforgiving realm where many perished. This ordeal shaped their resilience and warrior prowess. The survivors' eventual return to the Lands Between as the modern Tarnished echoes a cycle of rebirth and redemption. This concept reinforces the themes of struggle and endurance prevalent throughout the game. The similarity in combat style between Godfrey and the Tarnished (e.g., use of axes and certain abilities) can be seen as a lingering influence of Godfrey’s training and martial traditions. It suggests that the Tarnished retain remnants of their former lives and skills, making their journey a quest to reclaim lost honor and grace. Understanding this connection enhances the player's immersion, adding layers to the Tarnished's identity and their quest. It emphasizes their role as former warriors seeking redemption. It also provides a poignant backdrop to their struggle, as they're not just aimless undead but fallen heroes striving to regain their lost glory. This interpretation could influence how players approach their character's development. They might feel a stronger connection to axes and combat styles reminiscent of Godfrey, deepening their role-playing experience. The journey from dishonor to potential redemption through defeating powerful foes and claiming the Elden Ring becomes more meaningful. The lore of the Land of Shadows adds a mysterious and grim chapter to the history of the Lands Between. Exploring or learning more about this realm could become a focal point for players interested in the game's rich storytelling.
@VelhoTheWizard The Hornsent that we meet that will actually talk to us definitely don't like us, and keep lumping us with "them," of which, as you stated, are the Tarnished that came before and laid the lands to waste.
@VelhoTheWizard Also, the old lady in the Castle talks at us as if we are truly one of Messmer's grunts, which also indicates the grunts were/are indeed Tarnished warriors.
@VelhoTheWizard I feel the Tarnished left the Lands Between AFTER they lost their golden eyes and grace. Once they got to the Land of Shadow, they were used as fodder for the machinations of Marika and Messmer, which would eventually end with them being sacrifices to the cause, as well. Far as Queeling's interpretation on the matter, he uses the word "embrace," which signifies to me that being burnt my Messmer - whether you are one of the Fire Knights or one of their many victims - is a good thing, a destined thing that should be desired.
It only just occurred to me during the rellana fight that I've never considered how Vati plays. I'm always listening to lore. Seeing vati actually play was so fun

I cannot believe we get to relive the Elden Ring experience once again! I am blown away with the first area so far, and while I can't wait to discover everything the DLC has, I kinda don't want to play so there's always more...
Be a bit on the older side and struggling with the DLC. I appreciate your videos and guides so much. Thayre so helpful in saving time and allowing me to spend more time fighting and understanding the game more. I also love how quiet you speak. Its soothing and i hope this comes across as a compliment and not offensive but i listen to your videos to help me sleep. The voice/music combo is top tier. Then i actually watch them when i wake up or before.
So when I found that jump in the Dragon Pit, my speakers were quite loud at the time, so on top of an in-game message telling me to be brave, approaching that ledge had the floors shaking with the sound of the chasm. I was actually *scared* to take that jump. Ancient Dragon Man wasn't too bad. But after that.... way after that.... 😱
17:20 The item on that ledge is a set of glintslab fireflies, 3 I think. Right after it, where there's the two guards sleeping (before the knight and the grace even), you can drop off a ledge to pick it up.
It's such a nice change of pace seeing you actually play rather than comment on the lore and the story. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love your incredible storytelling and that's what got me hooked on this channel for such a long time. However, watching you struggle to defeat bosses gives us that extra layer of relatability, to you and to this channel and that's just marvelous. Also, it's good to know that you get skewered just like the rest of us haha.
To get the item in the cave at 17:19 you need to get out of the cave and instantly take a right down a cliff, you'll have to do some ledge walking and take a right to go back in the upper area of the cave.
Omg RIP on that Rellana fight. I’ve had a couple of those experiences in the dlc. Really reminded me of my first play through of base game! I rate Rellana as one of the best fights they’ve ever made. Pontiff, artorias and Loretta all rolled into one. And the best fashion so far
His tactic is flawed. No where in his fight does the Fire Golem try to strike him with its arms, but I when I fight it, it constantly swings its arms at me, even when I am under the bastard.
@@RoninYeti Along with what the other reply said, do your best to watch for when it turns. Turning its body is an indicator that it's about to swing at you. You know, I really like this format. Instead of a detailed walkthrough, it's more like a "hey did you know about this?" I'd love to see it for the other areas. It captures that feeling of community discovery that makes this game so special.
17:15 if you jump down from the left of the camp on the right side you can grab the item below then turn again and it’s the cave opening to get the item
1:01:57 standing where you are, go left and there is a room guarded by 1 very large, 1 large and many small scorpions. Before entering there are ruins to the right. Jump over them and there is a door.

I think the thing everyone is missing about the Poison Hand is that it buffs poison overall. Which means you can throw this in your offhand and two-hand a poison weapon (trying the DLC whip currently and OMG) to DEVASTATING effect. I think what Miyazaki intended tho is for it to be paired with the Deadly Poison Perfumer Bottle.
Bro the man in the woods scared the shit out of me when I was playing. He was just chilling so I walked up to him thinking he was an NPC only for him to go feral on my ass. 10/10 experience

it seems like they named the sword like that because it was inspired by grrm where the name of the sword in Asoiaf book is called dark sister, widow wail, bastard sword, lady forlorn 😂
12:17 To get there, you have to drop down onto a ledge by the corner of the tower with a couple of soldiers, in the area where the knight is. Then turn around and go through a small tunnel :)
For those curious how to reach the ledge at 1:01:58 that vaati pointed out. As you go up the tower to the boss instead of going through the door go to the right and jump over some rubble to get to a doorway that leads there and also gets you a scadutree fragment and the dried bonquet talisman
1:02:06 you need to go towards the staircase-room with the scorpions. Right before you enter and the little scoprions attack, you can turn right and jump over rubble and a destroyed house/wall. There you will find a door and circle back to the location you pointed at.

Vaati, the poisoned hand is low-key super strong. It has crazy high *deadly* poison (105 buildup at max with high arcane), and has the kindred of rot talisman effect baked in. So attacks get stronger as enemies are poisoned.

@@ZdenekMicke69 Absolutely, thank you for expounding upon this theory!
