    Just got a R92 44 mag 20 inch barrel. Unbelievable wood on this one; best/prettiest I have ever seen on any rifle. Literally jaw dropping gorgeous. Wood to metal fit is perfect, and blueing is great. Could not be happier.

    Shot thousands of rounds through my .357 Rossi R92. Only problem was a broken loading gate spring. Feeds and shoots 38/357 smooth as butter, love that rifle!

    I own a Rossi '92 chambered in .45 Long Colt, finish is case hardened (fire cured) which gives it incredible beautiful cascade of colors and patterns that are unique : there are not two alike!!
    In addition to that exclusivity , it has an octagonal 24 inches barrel.
    Overall finish is tip top.
    It's a fine rifle.

    I don't know if I could give up my Rossi 92 for the Henry. As much as I love Henry as a brand. I adore my Rossi 92. I have the 18" barrel on mine. Turns 357 magnum into a right proper sub-200 yard carbine.

    25 years ago I had a Rossi Puma in 45 Colt and thought it to be a nice affordable rifle. I sold it when I found a Marlin Cowboy rifle also in 45 Colt. Also a nice gun but a bit muzzle heavy for me with the octagon barrel. I traded it for a Henry 45 Colt in blue with the bigger loop. Love this one.mi agree that a side loader would be nice but 8 rounds does provide a good amount of shooting. I recently acquired a Rossi Puma in 44 Mag and am greatly disappointed. It fails to feed the magnums but does great with 44 Specials. A gunsmith that has worked on a lot of cowboy action guns had it for 6 was and said he believed the problem was related to the rails but didn't want to work on them unless he could get new ones to replace them if things went wrong. Well many attempts to contact Rossi and Taurus went for naught, they either did not respond or finally said they had no spares in stock and had no idea when they would get any. Sorry for the long dissertation but my 2 cents worth says I'll take the Henry and smile. 😄

      A few years ago I bought a Rossi .454 casull lever action and so far I haven't needed any spare parts....it functions very well still but I've only put about 200 rounds through it. I hope it doesn't break down because I know it will be a nightmare trying to get replacement parts.

    I had a Rossi R92 in .357 and loved it,. After 20 or so years of use and abuse it died. I’m from Western Australia, and when I went to replace it I couldn’t find another one in .357 in any gun shop anywhere in the state. After a while of looking for another .357, any .357, some Henry’s came into my local gun shop and I bought the Big Boy Steel Carbine in .357. I wasn’t sure about the tube loader, but figured I could live with it. I am very happy with it. It is a well balanced, good looking, accurate, hard hitting gun. The tube holds 8 x .357, I have some small containers that I put 8 bullets in and I carry several in my pocket and just “pour” them into the tube to reload, much faster than loading the old Rossi through the side gate. I also find dropping a cartridge into the ejection port and closing the lever works fine and fast for me. Both the Rossi and Henry are good guns. I look forward to the next 20;years of use and abuse of my Henry.😎

      I handled both side by side at a LGS today. I'm torn. I like the Rossi's stainless steel. but really like the wood on the Henry. the extra heft of the Henry grew on me and felt good. (no 20 mile hikes for me anyway.) I like the side eject of the Henry, able to mount optic over receiver. $600 vs $850. ouch. wallet likes the Rossi.

    I always wanted a lever action rifle and the other day, I finally got one.
    I had 3 choices, a Marlin, a Rossi and a Henry.
    The Henry was the most expensive and didn't have a side loading gate.
    All three laid out in front of me, inspected all three very closely.
    I choice was the Henry and here is why.
    First, it was the best looking of the three, not only was it the best looking one, it was also the best fitted one, the quality control at Henry is top notch, the action was very smooth.
    If you scratch the brass, it's very easy to polish and make it look brand new, it's not that simple to fix scratches in a blued steel rifle.
    It's a new design, there is no safety button, hammer down and finger off the trigger and it can't be fired no matter what you do.
    I went with the 45 Colt caliber, remember how this guy said the barrel is quite thick?
    This allows you to fire the 45 Colt +P ammo, this is basically a 45 Colt Magnum round which makes this rifle quite powerful.
    We are talking about a 260 gr bullet at 1900+ fps.
    A side loading gate would have been nice, but all the other qualities more than made up for the lack of a side loading gate.
    Did I mention how beautiful this gun is?

      The Rossi rifle follows the traditional design of the Winchester Model 1892, the same one that John Wayne used. Henry has a modern design, nothing to do with the original. I prefer Rossi for the tradition .

    • @Diemerstein
      @Diemerstein 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@PsychoXXI The Henry rifle made today is a replica of the original Henry repeating rifle designed by Benjamin Tyler Henry, it was made before there was a Winchester rifle, the first Henry lever action rifle was produced in 1860, all Winchester rifles are based on the original Henry rifle.

    my Rossi has both the side gate and tube load options along with a rubber stock pad as it is chambered in 454 cassull/45 LC and made in stainless steel. I intended to buy a henry but after handling both I choose to go with the rossi due mostly to the weight difference as well as the cost

    I've owned both. The R92 for several years and the Big boy for less than a year. I ended up selling the Big Boy and buying a Browning 1886 in 45/70. There just was somethings - nothing major - I didn't care for on the Henry. Probably the loading method was involved.

  • @jarkoer
    @jarkoer 6 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    I used to own a Rossi but now I own a Henry. You can't go wrong with either one. I just like the tube-feed because it's easier to load. Is it more of a safety hazard? Maybe. But as long as the action is open or the hammer is down there's no chance of a negligent discharge. Plus the action is smooth, and it looks nice.

    • @c.j.rogers2422
      @c.j.rogers2422 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Just the opposite. There is zero danger loading a tube feed with hammer down, but unloading a side gate (without removable tube) is much less safe, cycling every round through the action. Every round is chambered with a cocked hammer while you cycle the action. That loaded, cocked gun has to point somewhere while you cycle all those rounds through.

    I have owned Henry, Winchester, Marlin, Mossberg and Rossi lever guns and all are great for what they are. But, for the money spent, the Rossi 357 mag in 16" barrel is my choice. A name on a gun never won a gun fight. Shoot what you like and don't just like one brand or another, like how they perform. If your like USA made, go for the Henry of course, but, the current Rossi guns are well made and get-r-done!

  • @uperrsc
    @uperrsc 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    If you are interested in somewhat period correct, the Rossi is your pick. If you want to mount a scope you pick Henry since the Rossi is a top eject rifle. Both are nice lever guns.

    • @jeffthebaptist3602
      @jeffthebaptist3602 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm surprised I had to scroll down so far for this. The Rossi is a Winchester 1892 clone. There are some changes but they are minor and the lineage to John Browning's original design is obvious.
      The Henry Big Boy has no historic lineage. The current Henry Repeating Arms company was founded in 1996. All their designs, except the reproduction 1860s, are new starts.
      So if you want to shoot a gun from the Old West or just from an old Western movie, the Rossi is really the only choice from these two.

      The Rossi .44 mag. with an octagon barrel might be better than the round barrel. I had a .44 Rossi that was exactly the same size as my .357. This causes the barrel of the .44 to be thinner and it would heat up after about 4 rounds and start throwing wild loads. The octagon barrel is thicker and heavier so this may not be a problem with it. I really do not like the henry's. Don't like the action.

      You can load almost as quickly, if not even more quickly, the tubular magazine from upfront instead of through a side port. I own a Henry and know what I'm talking about. Besides, in case you want a quick and potentially silent unload to empty the rifle, you can do it with Henry, but you can't do it with a side port - you have to manually cycle the lever for each round. That gets irritating sometimes, to say at least.

    I am a bit late to the p;icnic, but The Henry has a solid top to the reciever and most are tapped for mounting either a scope or aperture sights. I prefer a rear peep; sight on my Lever actions and the Henry has already thought this through. Both are excellent rifles depending on your application, but Henry is my go to Lever action. (I might have one or two here somewhere.... )Thanks and keep at it.

    This sounded like a Henry commercial. As a gunsmith I'll take the rossi hands down. The Henry other than being American made and being tube loaded(not the same way as the original) has nothing in common with the original. Yes Henry makes an 1860 still. Where as rossi other than the safety(thanks atf import rules) is a Winchester 1892 clone. They have the trapper, carbine and full rifle with the option of round or octagon barrels. It all comes down to preference nothing else.

    I have a stainless Rossi 92 in 454 Casull with the 20" barrel and it shoots rings around any of the Henry's I've shot. It has both side and tube loading and will put 10 rounds of 45LC downrange about as fast as you can pull the trigger. Not that the Henry's are bad rifles but a friend has a Big Boy and it just doesn't hold groups like that Rossi especially with 45LC., the closest lever to it was a Henry 357 but the action was very rough, catchy.

    There were many lever action models in the 19th century that had no side loading gate. Therefore, the lack of a side loading gate does not = a break with tradition. In fact, being drilled and tapped for a scope is a break with tradition.

    I am lucky, I own both and they are both excellent rifles. My Henry is more of a safe queen, the Rossi is one of those firearms that you don't mind throwing in your truck or side x side. I don't understand why folks have to bash products, when they don't have any real experience with the item. For me 500+ rounds is the point where I can say a firearm is reliable and worth having. I agree FACAS DE QUERRA! The Henrys are nice rifles but WAY overpriced for what you get as compared to the R92 from Rossi which is a very close copy of the original Winchester '92. I can buy a Rossi, do a very little polishing here and there by hand, and have a LOT of money left over for ammo compared to the "slick" Henrys which have the tendency to "break the bank" with their high prices. I know of several gun store owners who simply refuse to carry Henrys because their customers can't afford them. My next lever action will, most likely, be a Rossi with a 24" barrel and I'll still have money left over to buy ammo to shoot in it.

    • @jaywarrenclark6263
      @jaywarrenclark6263 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Also, isn’t the lockup on the ‘92 stronger and I don’t think the octagon barrel is inherently more accurate.
      My little Rossi 16” carbine will hit the steel target all day long at 500 yards. It has after market peep sights and my 180 grain hand load delivers 373 foot pounds of energy out to that 500 yard target.
      I also have the Rossi with a 24 “ barrel and with Vernier sights and can hit targets beyond 650 yards. And that rifle at 650 yards delivers 314 foot pounds of energy!
      They can deliver deadly energies way out there and hit what you shoot at. And, unlike the Henry, when the enemy is coming at you you don’t need 3 hands and a leg to reload it. They also make stainless rifles which he didn’t mention.
      I think it was a poorly balanced presentation.
      The Henry is nice and I have one but I don’t go anywhere without my little Rossi carbine in .357-a pistol round that out of a rifle is, as the Chinese say, a “Great Leap Forward” in velocity and energy delivered. JWC

    I bought two Rossies one a 454 the other a 357. The 454 wouldn’t chamber any ammo I tried in it factory or hand loads. Sent it back to Rossi and several weeks later it came back. Now it appears to be fine. Chambers everything. The 357 wouldn’t load. Sometimes couldn’t get 2 or3 rounds in. Then the loading gate broke. Ordered a DIY action job kit and a new loading gate. It’s at the gunsmith now. These at nice light carbines but even for the price one would think they should work. I mean how do they even get out of the factory like this. Just hoping it works when I get it back.

    The Henry is nice except for that asinine loading system; King's patent on the loading gate expired a long time ago. I SBRed a Rossi Ranch hand in .45 Colt and had it threaded for my pistol can. The Rossi is the most traditional of the two because it is a copy of the 1892 Winchester which was famous in the old west, and more so in western movies, as far as I know that Henry is not a copy of anything historical, although it is beautiful well made, awesome gun to be proud of because it is made in the USA, and the Henry repeating arms has come to have a good name in firearms since it was founded in 1996 in Brooklyn New York

      Michael Brouillard The1860 Henry was modified with the Kings loading gate and became the Winchester 1866 and since they were the ones making the Henry they The serial number on the 1866 started where the Henry left off, also the Henry was a top eject just like all the Winchesters and used a elevator to bring the cartridge up to be chambered just like the 1866 1873 and Winchester 1876, from what I’ve seen there more like a Marlin, They look like a really nice gun and people really Love them,
      Most people that have them say really good things about them, but if we follow history and keep following the line down from the Henry you get the 1866 Winchester 1873 Winchester 1876 Winchester 1886 Winchester and the1892 Winchester which is what Rossi copied, and also that’s why all Winchester rimfire shells have a charmer the to honor Henry

    I shoot competitions with my Rossi and I can say beyond doubt I can load much quicker than the lads with Henrys,also its an indoor range and not ideal to be pointing your rifle at approximately 45 degrees at the ceiling whilst loading, my rifle lays on its side pointing down range, don't even have to touch it to load it, that said the Henry is a better quality rifle but you do pay for that Quality and they are much heavier i was shooting my friends rifle and although it is a lovely rifle I was glad when I put it down. At the end of the day though whatever floats your boat is the right choice.

      Last dance here with the fact that Henry makes a variety of side loaders. They started with just a few I know from my Henry catalogue of 4 years ago. I have the new catalogue and they have a slew of sideloaders now, even including some mare-legs like in TV's old B&W western Wanted: Dead Or Alive starring Steve McQueen. I wouldn't want the mare's leg though, its low capacity and defeats the purposes of a rifle in my opinion.

    The absence of a side loading gate, in my experience, has positive implications for smooth feeding and operation of the action. The carrier of my Uberti 1860 Henry is not relieved to accommodate side loading as its loading system is similar to that of the brass framed Henry in this video.Its operation is superior to that of may 1866 and 1873s for this reason,as the cartridge is always perfectly aligned as it feeds from the magazine. Having unwisely failed to buy a new Marlin .32 H&R Magnum when the opportunity arose years ago, I intend buying a Henry in .327 Federal Magnum and regard the loading system of both as advantages. I think the Rossi deserves to be credited with being traditional as it is a reasonably faithful reproduction of the Winchester 1892, while the new Henry is a new design from the ground up.
