i've needed to use henry 2x for minor warranty issues- I own 3 henry levers in brass (.22, 45 & 45-70)
both times all i needed to do was call with my serial # and within a week I not only received my parts at no expense to me, but the parts cam in a box full of henry gear (coffee mug, henry hat & stickers) AMAZING customer service and an equally impressive high quality product! i'll always be a henry customer!

Which of your Henrys would you trust against a black bear? The .45 or the .45-70? (Or, both?)
And, as "working rifles" (I mean, working "in the field"), does the softer metal (brass) receiver resist getting scratched up?

I received one of the original Henry Big Boys as a gift, in my first box of factory ammo there was a squib load that jammed in the barrel. You couldn’t tell because I was on an indoor range with 20 other people firing all types of rifles. I fired a second round that struck the the squib load and luckily for me the barrel didn’t explode, but it only caused a slight swell about 8” from the muzzle. You could barely feel the bulge with your fingers, the ammo manufacturer was great and agreed to pay for a new barrel. I was very lucky that a range officer was attracted to the rifle and had witnessed the entire incident!
I contacted Henry and they were even better, I sent them the rifle and they couldn’t have been nicer. They replaced the barrel and had it back to me in less than a week. It shot even better than the original barrel. The original was grouping about 1.5” at 25 yds the new barrel was capable of less than 1”. I have to thank Henry for their superior construction, I could have easily been seriously injured. The gun is a favorite, I just wish .38 spec. and .357 hadn’t gone so high in price and availability with the shortage, so I could shoot it more often!

2018 of August is when we bought ours, Henry All Weather 357mag/.38 spl
One beauty of a lever action rifle. We live in west state Colorado. Perfect place to use our Henry for game or play. Shoots accurate and smooth cycling along with not having to worry about wiping it down from being outside or in foul weather. It's made for those that go into brush and higher mtns where the elements come into effect. We did our research to find the right lever action, theyres many to choose from. We are proud family to be part of the Henry family! Get lots of compliments at the range, not too many have seen the All Weather in action or in person. Got a nice leather sling from Buffalo leather in SLC, Utah. They made me a custom design of the medicine wheel on it, indicating I am Native American of the Navajo nation. I even have hawk feathers hanging as the warriors did back in the 1800s. It's cherry! But glad to see that Henry listened to those wanting side gate loading. I'm alright without, we love ours they way it is. You have one beauty yourself! Try the new federal premium Hammer down 357mag in 170gr. There's videos on TH-cam for researchers. I was told to stay with a caliber safe to cycle and a good company that makes the ammo specifically for lever action rifles. Cheers mate! M

I have the Henry Big Boy Brass Carbine in .357 / .38 Special with the big hand loop and shorter 16.5" barrel. I like the Octagonal barrel on mine as well ... deadly accurate with just iron sights due to the barrel weight absorbing the recoil. A real joy to shoot.

Back in April, I was in the market for my dream gun...a lever action cowboy gun.
I didn't care if it was a Marlin, Henry or Rossi, just as long as it wasn't a .22.
When I got to the counter, the Henry Big Boy brass stood out like a sore thumb, I mean this thing looked gorgeous.
That narrowed it down to "I want a Henry Big Boy".
    I had four choices, .357, .44 magnum, 45 Colt.
I went with the 45 colt, it was the most versatile of the three.
There are all sorts of rounds available for it, everything from cowboy loads to the insane Buffalo Bore 45 Colt +P.
Put in 10 rounds of Buffalo Bore Deer Grenades and you have a gun more powerful than a 44 magnum, and yes it's even more powerful than a 30-30 out to 100 yards.
Keep in mind, that ammo does not feel so great firing, it kicks hard and no recoil pad doesn't help either.
That Deer Grenade has a almost 2000 fps muzzle speed and delivers almost 2100 ft/lbs of energy, quite insane for a pistol round.
You can also use cowboy loads on the range and shoot it all day long and it's fun.
Is it worth buying in 2021? Absolutely, it's legal in all 50 US states and here in Germany.
    Greetings from across the pond!

I have the Henry Big Boy in .357/.38 Special without the side gate. It has performed flawlessly for years. I can vouch for the comments in this video. Shooting .38 Special is like shooting a .22 - no recoil at all. There is a slight recoil when using .357, but much less than an AR in .556. I can't recommend the Henry enough - it's simply a great firearm.

In fact I put a Nikon 3 power scope on it, but immediately took it off after 1 season of hunting Whitetail deer! I found I was more accurate, and much, much, faster with the semi-bickhorn especially when tracking my target in case I need a fallow up shot.

Your video is very nicely done. They are indeed great rifles or in my case I have the .357/.38 Brass Big Boy Carbine with large loop lever....it gives up a couple of rounds in capacity however is very useful for home defense due to shorter length and even have added a Picatinny rail, with red dot, riser, and 3x magnifier. Even did some videos equipped that way. They are best though in their original state as a classic and as you said the weight greatly mitigates the recoil. I have a Spee-D-Loader like the tube you used for my Henry Golden Boy .22 LR. Is that tube loader something you made or is that something you purchased. Thank you Black Bear Outdoors for carrying on the Lever Action tradition.

I've had the carbine version in .44mag for a few years now. I find I don't really miss the side loading gate that normally comes with other lever actions and the newer Henrys. The only thing I don't like about it is the slow rifling twist which is like 1/36 or 1/37 or so if I recall. I'm told this was to cater to the cowboy action shooters who shoot a lot of slow, soft lead loads through these guns. Whatever case, it makes it very hard to get any accuracy with the heavier, 300gr hard cast bullets I like. Regular 240gr bullets are fine. From what I understand, the newer Henrys now have faster twists to rectify this limitation, but since I don't own one, I can't confirm.

Good day folks, I own a Henry bigboy in 44 mag, had it for awhile, shoots great, I had to put skinner sights on tho cuz I couldn't hit nuttin with those buckhorn factory sights, I put a few nicks n scratches on it, but that don't effect the performance, just a beautiful rifle, shoot str8t, stay safe , shakyjake out.

Which model did u prefere the side load gate or the older model, front load ?

  • @delmarrey9077
    @delmarrey9077 ปีที่แล้ว

One problem I’ve found with this model is that when injecting a cartridge the rifle has to be in the upright position or else the cartridge will not inject properly. The cartridge tends to fall out of line and jams up so it will not insert into the chamber if not reasonably upright. BTW I load my own with a slower powder to give it more velocity.

Possibly a good compromise to that would be to carry a 1 or 2 extra loose rounds with this rifle in case you were to run out of ammo in the field youd have the option to load one directly into the chamber before starting to load the tube. The same kind of idea that Jeff cooper had with not firing the last round in semi autos so that you have a single quick shot if your mag reload is violently interrupted
