- How to replace the tail-lamps assembly/bulbs on your 2011-2018 Toyota Sienna minivan. To replace the LED's you will need to get the entire assembly and replace the whole taillamp unit. The turn signals, reverse, and license plate have user replaceable bulbs. The top center mounted third brake light is also an assembly/part you will need to replace.

The only 3rd gen Sienna liftgate trim removal video on TH-cam! Well done
Thanks for the vid, saved me a lot off stress.
This worked like a charm. I did not have to take off the entire liner. I took off the liner only on one side where I could access the tail lamp bulb. 5/29/23
Nice video. One thing I suggest when I replaced my rear lights was to take a qtip and put a little silicone grease on all the clips. This helps any future removal of the plastic panel.
My turn signal bulb burnt out and I'm too lazy to read the manual, thank you for taking me to school. I don't understand why do people give thumb down, there's no wind noise, no shaky camera, or accent that so thick that it needs sub-title to understand what the instructor is talking about. Keep up the good work.
Thank you!
Thank you for the warning out how loud it is. I would’ve totally freaked out if I didn’t know that ahead of time.
I have a 2017 Sienna XLE that had a burnt out tailight only. I was able to get to the one side of the cover where the lamp is located without taking the entire gate cover completely off. Went to our local Toyota counter and purchased a single lamp for $2.08 plus tax and no I did not need to replace the entire housing either. Simple and cheap fix.
Very helpful. Makes removing the tailgate panel much easier. Thanks
I can confirm from experience that a 168 led light bulb will be a direct replacment for the OEM liftgate light. You DO NOT need to replace the whole liftgate light to fix the light.
I can double-confirm. DO NOT buy the $60-$100 replacement light assembly. For $7, I got two 168LL bulbs from the local NAPA and that solved the problem. The cover comes down easy. This is a 5 minute job once you have the new bulb.
Thanks fellas, saved me time & money.
So thankful for these videos!! I just replaced my license plate bulbs all by myself!!!
The tail light is absolutely serviceable!!! Only a single #168 bulb lights up the entire tail light. The auto stores also say it’s not serviceable but it’s only that single # 168 bulb!!! The same bulb as the license plate bulb!!! Toyota must want to soak us for big bucks! Great video, though.
But how do you get the bulb out? I can't figure that out
Thank you. I want to mention one thing. You don't need to replace the whole assembly for inner (trunk) tail light bulbs. You can simply replace them. 2 x 194 bulbs for both sides.
Agree, the light bulb is just above the reverse light bulb.
2825 are the recommended but same diff except less lumens on the other ones
Local auto parts store advised that that these trunk tail lights actually take 168 bulbs (12 volt). I compared these to the 194 bulbs which are 14 V according to the package. Be sure to verify with a local professional if possible
The tail lights on the rear door can be replaced. In the video you mention that they are LED and must be completely replaced. This is not true. It is a simple 161 bulb that cost $5. I just replaced it in my 2012 Sienna.
Same here, in my 2011 sienna it was just a 168 bulb. It looks deceptively like it’s connected to the light panel but it really isn’t- It’s just an anchor for the connector which branches off into two other connectors: one for the tail light panel, one for the reverse light. I think the reverse light is a 191 bulb. No LED lights at all. No need to replace the whole panel
Thank you for this info.
😂I purchased new lamp
How do you swap out those bulbs in the tailgate if you don’t need to replace everything
Awkward spot but easy $7 fix...
Getting ready to change my tail lights this weekend, im glad i found this video. Dealership told me i had to change the whole assembly so i bought a new one off amazon hopefully it is just a bulb and i can return the assembly
Thank you for this! Now I don’t have to wait for my husband to “find time” and I can do it myself.
This was very helpful, I was able to replace the two bulbs in the tail lights the day before I found this video, I wish I had seen this first, I saved a lot, I enjoy doing stuff my self
Thanks for sharing!!
Thank you very much for this video. The LED panel on the driver side on the Tailgate went out on our 2011 Sienna and I had no idea how to get to it. Now I can go buy a replacement and do it myself. Now I have to find the connect part number. Thanks again.
For replacing the rear taillight bulb: DO NOT buy the $60-$100 replacement light assembly, YOU CAN just change the light bulb. For $7, I got two 168LL bulbs from the local NAPA and that solved the problem. The cover on the door snaps off easy for access to the bulb socket. This is a 5 minute job once you have the new bulb.
Was this for the tail lamp? I have my rear driver side tail lamp out.
Thanks for the video. Was able to replace my license plate lights using your step by step instructions.
The best tutorial on the web!
Very nice video. Thanks for taking the time... however the license plate lights are removable from the outside of the hatch, no need to remove the entire trim panel when all you need is a small flat head screwdriver. Just FYI
Glad you wrote this. I’m about to change them!
Can you explain, please? I'm about to do this on the wife's van. Thanks
You avoided the main taillight, removing it. Thanks!!
Thank you for your video. I need to change my license bulb. The dealer wanted to charge me $52 just for the bulb. I will attempt to change it myself thanks to you.
It's very easy I did this for my mothers minivan on her 2012 Toyota Sienna and changed them to LED lights, the LED lights are only $10 for 10 lights in Amazon
.
@@Jerry4050 did you need to take apart trim on the inside or were you able do it all from outside of minivan thx
I appreciate your video thank you!
I am a mom and with kids and my van is my life rn, no other way to work.
Thanks for this! Saved me a trip to the dealership!!
Great job buddy. Very helpful video. Thanks a lot. You just saved me some money. 👍👍👍
Thank you, changed a broken reverse light! Really appreciated your video as saved me paying for the same. Thank you!
Thank you very much video it very helpful for everyone want to change the light broken. thank you.

For those saying he is wrong about having to replace the entire assy if the LED lamps go out, I think his assy is different. I could be wrong but that assy appears to have a 'C' shape cluster of LED's. You can also see when he has it removed and takes out the individual signal bulb that there is no other individual bulb but there is a receptacle for the plug that powers the LED's.
Thanks for posting! Was wondering how to change the tail lights
Great video I seem to find these videos when I'm not looking 👀. 👍
Excellent video! Very well explained and demonstrated. Thank you
Thanks for the help I have to replace my license plate lite bulb

Nice Job! Thanks for sharing/posting.
Good video. Nice and clear. Thank you.
Nice video, very helpful, thanks!
Good job body, BUT U forgot ONE thing that is light bulb on passenger side rear when U lift trunk.
Thank you ... very helpful
Thank you, it was very helpful.
Good info, but maybe you should add part numbers of the bulls you might need if any weekend DIY-ers wanted to do this? Just an idea.
Thank you! saved me a lot of time! grait!
thanks for the tutorial
Thanks for the vid
That's work. My tag lights are out and I'm scare to do this
Great vid...solved me!
4:15 this is the same as on my 2009 Toyota Venza
Thanks for posting!
Nice video, but you were wrong about the LED tail light. It is actually NOT LED, but just lit up by one #168 Bulb. So you really don't have to replace the whole assembly, ONLY the light bulb. Come on man!
Correctomundoo
Man i was getting ready to brake the piggy bank🤦♂️thank you
Yeah Michael is correct the LED tail light is only lit up by that tiny bulb
Thank you so much
Good job
Thanks
awesome tutorial.....by the way, I have 2017 Sienna LE but I want to swap the clear tail lights from 2011 Sienna SE, is that possible? is the connection on the back are the same?...….Thanks!
Thank you very much!
Thanks
Thank you!
Thank you
Can't imagine how many people bought the entire taillight assembly based on this bad info. LOL. $3.00 bulb vs $55.00 taillight housing.
have you ever replaced the weather strip on the rear door you just worked on?
Why does Toyota make the red rear lights led but the turn signal and reverse uses regular bulbs? Why not make everything led?
My lock jam on the rear door can't get it to open have you done something like that
Can't change out just the license plate LED without pulling the panel?
fantastic
Thanks.
What part number of every light because you did not mention it that would do perfect..
No need to remove the entire lift gate cover - you can reach the back-up bulb after prying just a few clips on each side
do you have the part number for the tail light? My passenger is not working. Thanks
Was helpful replacing license plate bulbs. Including pulling the bulbs out would have been appreciated. Little difficulty removing the the #168 lamps.
Wrong Wrong Wrong. The tail light can be replaced. No need to buy a complete assembly! wow. did you read your owners manual?
Even the autoparts store couldn't figure that out but the bulbs are replaceable, no need for whole assembly
Stupid question here, but I hope someone can answer for me. Are the brake lights off and then turn on when you push the brakes? Or are they always lit when the lights are on and then turn brighter when you push the brakes?
sonyxxmunions turn brighter when you hit the brakes hope I helped
Where do i get the side tab that slides in?
Any link for the third top brake light?
I wish they made them so you can just replace the led modules itself instead of having to replace the entire housing 😕
Replacing the entire unit is not true, that's what I thought, with further examination it's a bulb
To the dumb Dem interrupting my video: There's something " HUGE " alright. Mirror Mirror on the wall????
The lights are badly designed and end up corroding, they are also over priced as far as I am concerned.
I see why sienna loosing price ..honda all the way .... Crapi oil filter tech .... Deal braker
Toyota sucks. Why are they competing against germans to make the worst designed cars ever?
Thanks
Thanks
