Spent my entire adult life so far finding the perfect (PERFECT) slim fit jeans and trousers and suddenly bam, everyone's wearing the baggy jeans I wore in highschool.
To clarify, you shouldn't use your total body height, you should measure from your shoulder to the floor. I'm 190 cm tall/3= Top 63.3 cm long, bottom 126.66 cm long. Measured from the floor, my pants will sit 6 cm above my belly button. The length from my shoulder to the floor is 168 cm/3=56 cm long top, 112 cm long bottom. This measurement is basically right at my hips, where my pants sit. Still, I find this measurement a bit off for untucked jackets and shirts, I want them to be slightly longer than right at the hips, so I use the golden ratio (1,618) that generates a bit different results than the rule of thirds. 168/1,618= 104 cm. I.e. the bottom of my jacket is 104 cm from the floor.
Dang yeah good point man, I should have been a bit clearer 👍 I use it as a guide but I don’t mind if it’s exact, so like you said sometimes I’ll have pieces a bit shorter or a bit longer
@@JamesLeung Yes, it's an easy and useful rule to use when shopping. I have altered the length of several shirts and jackets because they were too long, so I've thought about this topic a lot.
@@royceburger7929 Measure your body from the floor up to your shoulder. Divide that length with 1,618. The result is the length of the bottom part of your outfit.
Hi James! Wanna thank you for the Carhart Jane Pants introduction. I have about the same frame as you, 175 cm and 65kg, so I got the same Carhartt Jane Pants size 28inch and they fit perfectly. This is the look I was looking for bootcut legs with slim and high rise. It's great that you demonstrate that female clothes may fit a man's style, not many fashion influencers do that!
i’m 6’5 and i wear all baggy pants pretty much, but the thing is i love sagging my pants because i feel like it looks better for me, so i say just wear the pants however you think looks best
Make sure the trousers are towards the high waisted mark, especially if you have a longer torso and shorter legs. I am 6.1 but my height is not ...all legs, and I find that a high waist not only balances the torso to legs ratio but gives the illusion of more height.
Im around 5 ft 8 too. Loose fit and wider trousers suit me well. I go for mid rise or high rise trousers and with cropped top, my legs look longer. The trousers also sit and break over the shoes.
I remember when I was like 13 and I first tucked in my shirt/tee. I only remembered tucked in tops as being nerdy, but I had this idea that it might look good if the fit is good. My friends were looking at me, like what the hell am I doing. That looks weird. Then slowly everyone realized that it actually looks way better and more stylish. My best friend even commented, that after a while, he started doing it too and realized it looked so much better. 13-14 year old me was PROUD! He would be even prouder now, knowing how far I went, wearing skirts, Rick Owens Kiss heels and such without hesitation lol. Embrace that inner voice in you!
It took me a little time to convert my fitting jeans to a more baggy size. I just couldn’t get used to it, but I persisted because I started to feel the slim fit jeans were so outdated and I wanted a new look, eventually I got more used to it and now all I have are wider pants and wider jeans. They fit me much better.
It’s easy to explain: your body type plays the biggest role what are you wearing and how tight, short, baggy or whatever 🤷🏻♂ I know my body type and I know that I can not wear some stuff because it looks not good on me.
Thanks for for the vid! 👍The usual advice re: choosing a pair that fit you properly makes complete sense to me, but I still shrink a bit when I hear it, because I'm yet to find a pair of jeans that I can wear without a belt! My quads grew rather substantially when I was 16 due to my swimming training. I have narrow hips (for a woman) and a narrow waist, meaning that anything that fits me around these areas I can't fit my legs into. I've not club swum for absolutely years, but the other stuff I do means that those thighs aren't going to lessen in size significantly 😒
Ugh. Again, sensible in principle, but I think I'm cursed - The last time I took some items to a 'tailor', they managed to completely bodge the job. These were a pair of jeans and a pair of velour bottoms that I needed shortening. They couldn't even manage to do what I presume to be the most basic of tailoring work without making a complete mess. Maybe surgery is the answer 😄
heavily disagree here, sleek shoes look way better with wide pants than chunky ones. the contrast is very flattering in most cases and helps to balance the visual weight/heirarchy. You can either de-emphasize the wide pant with chunky shoe or emphasize it with a more narrow one.
I kinda wish I could pull off baggy jeans, but Im short, have short legs and small feel. Baggy jeans just emphasizes my short height which I hate. Plus I look like I'm dressing like how I did back in middle school, 17-18 years ago
Yeah a few people have said a similar thing. Have you tried them with shorter length tops? This should emphasise your legs more and give you better proportions.
Why is everyone calling that the rule of thirds? doesn't make any sense it's more the rule of 2/3 or 30/70, bc you actually have a proportion of 2/3 instead of 1/3 each. The rule of thirds is used in drawing to separate the face into 3 similar parts to create the right proportions for example.
I have experienced it in the late 80s and 90s while listening to New Kids on The Block, thinking I wore the coolest style on earth listening to the dopest music in the world... later I knew both claims were wrong and I don't need to revisit it, to me straight or slim on the thigh and straight from mid tight down to the hem with some break on the shoe is timeless and probably the only pant style I will wear until the day I would be raptured or laid down in a casket
at 3:38 im supposed to liek the one on the left correct? I think it looks pretty good. Its kind of ambiguous but the one on the right seems to match your rule of thirds a little better.
listen, if you wear baggy pants for the "relaxed type outfit" dont go with something so short, cropped and slim on top. your outfit should like "flow" if it is relaxed so go with something oversized on top too, as long as it isnt as oversized as what he showed for the pictures where "people drowned in their clothes"
i got these jeans labeled as "baggy" but the waist size still affected the leg width so i sized up about 2-3US sizes and use a shoelace to keep them up, is that okay or will it look too big for me
I always have 1 problem with baggys. After a few hours of wearing them, the silhouette of my legs starts to change and it looks awful in a mirror. Looks like a fold on my shin
I recently bought the weekday Astro pants and I don’t know how I feel about them. i love the baggy look but being 5’6 and 30” length being the shortest they had, they always drag behind me and i hate the feeling of them getting stuck under my shoes. I wish they just had a 28” or that i could sew and fix it myself. I absolutely love baggy pants and think they look so good, but i feel like im just too short for a lot of brands to make them my size ):
don't hesitate to visit a tailor for that matter! it must be pretty cheap to cut off the unnecessary length but it'll boost the look of your pants on you drastically :)
I hate being tall and skinny as NOTHING and I mean NOTHING fits me correctly... My waist is always too small and the lenght of the pants always too small or the other way around
bro talk skinny with a small waist is the standard for runway models, male or female. you’re literally perfect, just need to find some clothes that really work with the proportions
Baggy pants just don't cut it for me, I have somewhat of a strange build: I'm a 165cm (5"5) guy, with somewhat large hips/waist (79cm/31") and quite big thighs and wide shoulders despite my overall slim build (not much fat). Baggy pants usually make me appear shorter and boxier, which I doesn't look good on me at all, so I'll pass on this trend 😅
hi james! i own a few pairs of baggy jeans (most from weekday) but i find that i have an issue of the fabric sort of caving in particularly around the knees i have to keep ‘floofing’ them out to keep the wide shape. any suggestions or tips?
I don't get it i bought the same jeans but they look pretty but on me. I got the L version cuz i got in my waist 36(91cm). But they are way too big for me. Should I go for the S?
