Kundavai attempts to establish political peace as vassals and petty chieftains plot against the throne. Unrest grips the land as a long-tailed comet arrives, signalling a time of turmoil.

@@DSds.. it’s a mixture of both. Some events are true. In fact most of the characters are real, except for the exposition given in the book.
The swords are Indian and were used in kalaripayatu the ancient martial art . The range of that sword and its ability to kill or harm 6-9 people at a time explains it's important during those times
The mobile swords that Imtiaz mentioned is named as "Urumi" which was a traditional weapon used even today in the art form called as "Kalaripayattu". If used in the right form at the right time, it can even kill 30 enemies at a time as it was done by the king Pazhasiraja from the south state of Kerala.
I am in love with Imtiaz! We need a lot more of him on the channel!!!

The chola, pandava and rashtrakuta dynasties have been few of the most powerful kingdoms in south Indian history. A lot of the history from this period was not taught in schools when I was a kid. It was briefly mentioned in a few paragraphs or a chapter.
Poniyan Selvan is the first movie in recent times to address these glorious empires and their histories.
So glad you guys are reacting to it. Hope it intrests you enough to deep dive further into the history of some of the greatest rulers of india.

Just wish to add that you have correctly mentioned "addressed" as they haven't been presented in the maximum possible which includes spirituality (first of all), architecture, city building, administration, service lent to the denizens of the kingdom, heavenly treatment of foreigners and visitors to the kingdom (aadhar, satkaar), contributions to literature, Bhakti and Carnatic music, dance forms etc. There are too many thing Kingdoms of yore contributed to the Bharatiya Sanskrit and the living standards were quite high. The effect of all the Kings on the subcontinent is such that we can still feel it in the lanes and houses of villages in India and especially the divinity in temples. once veerapandyan beheaded vikram's grand pa and uncle.
so aditha ( vikram ) took an oath to behead Veerapandyan.
it was brutal in the novel than the movie
aditha who was just 17 went inside the hut , he got angry on seeing nandhini with veerapandyan he asked her about the relation with him she said he is my dearest one.
He beheaded him and took the head all through the streets and hanged it in tanjavoor fort for about a week.
and he got another name
" veerapandyan thalai konda kopara Kesari"
" the lion King that Owns the head of veerapandyan"
and this part of the novel is history not fiction except nandhini.
nandhini took oath infront of the burning corpse and she seduced periya pazhu ( never allowed him to touch) and entered the palace as QUEEN.

Both the parts can never make justice to the book series...it's one of the best novels you can ever read

Guys, I think u can try listening to Rauf&Faik.They are a Russian pop duet of Azerbaijani origins, formed by twin brothers Rauf and Faik Mirzaev Most of their songs sound amazing 👏 because their voices and music are incredible! The way they sing touches my soul, I am very hypnotised by their songs, and since I started listening to them, I became a fan of Russian music, and its sad 😥 that many people don't know those talented and adorable fraternal twins.

Yes, movies like Pathaan and the infinite Sallu Bhai films are definitely more grounded films which don’t rely on over the top action sequences, unlike Mani Ratnam’s character-driven magnum opus based on history and a famous novel. 🙄
