I love how knowledgeable Imtiaz is! He is right. Most of the instruments used in most songs from the album of both PS1 and PS2 use instruments that are NOT usually heard in modern music, especially in north india.
What they mean 'modern' is western rock, pop etc. music that consist electric guitars, keyboards amongst others. You can listen to certain percussion instruments like mrudangam even in modern day south Indian films and tv series across India. It is a cultural difference.
Obviously you had to put North in your simple comment

Probably too late for this headsup. The dialogues in this movie were apparently difficult for even native Tamil speakers to understand. But thankfully the English subtitles are really good and was helpful. I had to watch this movie twice to understand what was happening. But PS-2 was easier to understand, perhaps because by the time I watched the sequel, I already knew all the characters, their motivations and intentions.
Okay .... I am not a Tamil Speaker but understand broken Tamil and have read the book so many times... So abt the English subtitles they are good but miss out some tiny details

Really? I'm not even a native Tamil speaker but I could understand the movie. Just some hyping up I guess.
Same here..i watched PS-1 twice. Because it got me interested and confused at the same time while watching it for the first time. To understand the relations in this part was important. That was difficult for me the first time. For Ps-2 it was way way easier to follow.
For native Tamil speakers (except those whom only know their accent and have not studied Tamil as a subject in school) this dialogue felt like nothing compared to the old Tuiyya (pure, flawless) Tamil spoken in older films (50's - 80's films). Hence it was very easy to comprehend - they spoke broken classical tamilthat is very much understandable to the audience. Not like speaking in Awadhi throughout the film which is difficult for a Hindi speaking audience of the modern day whom have arabic and persian loan words making the spoken tongue actually Urdu. What would make even modern tamil people frown and leave their heads scratching is the Old Sangama Tamil closer to the modern day Yazphanam Tamil of Northern Sri Lanka and parts of the district of Wayanad in Kerala (spoken by few). That is the actual Tamil. What they speak in modern day at least in cities and towns is a mixture of Sanskrit and Tamil. Many directly use English in between sentences being bilingual. Local Tamil accents are very coarse and lost the essence of ancient Tamil. What they would have spoken in 10th Century B.C.E is ancient Tamil closer to Sangama Tamil (which was spoken in the B.C.Es). It is very similar to Shakespearean English versus modern day British English. The accents in Tamil like Madurai Tamil, Nellai Tamil, Tondai Tamil, Kongu Tamil etc. are all accents with colloquial words unique to them like Cockney in London, Yorkshire accent, Cornish accent, Scottish (which of course have Gaelic touch), Shetlandish, Isle of Mann etc. to give an analogy.
Where is Andrew? He's the Vikram fan after all and PS2 has some marvelous performance from Vikram.

He didn't say All thing to everyone he is the only person who doesn't fell into the nandhini's trap and that message which was seen by nandhini was written by himself not a real message so he revealed that real message only to the king and princess kundavai

Before seeing this movie u should watch king cronology of cholas and the history and war between cholas and pandya kingdom.. Director should have given a small background of movie and short name , visually action is good but made the movie complicated that's why didn't reach to mass people.. this Chola kingdom was very strong and from this "sangol" came into existence

the novel has 2500 pages so mani removed a LOT LOT LOT to make it as a 2 part movie with just 5hr 30 min runtime.
as it was serialised kalki would create urge at the end of each chapter which will be missed in the movie.
Though the novel has politics and love.
mani got attracted towards the love of a prince and a common women.
so mani made an epic tragic love saga from ponniyinselvan books.
who liked PS1 will be disappointed with PS2
who found PS1 so complex / confusing PS2 will be easier straight to the point.
The novel readers for sure will be disappointed.
I wish there was no covid between their shoot they cancelled and reshoot 3 times.
it's surely reflects in the movie.

Mani Ratnam decided to adapt one aspect of the novel.. He knew from beginning that he couldn't adapt everything.. So he highlighted one part and tried to do justice to as much as he can fit in the rest... He has done justice to everything he managed to include.. Every character was perfectly casted and acted to perfection... The poetic nature of the novel is as it is brought to the screen along with its grandness... The spirit of the story is present despite the changes.... This is what a book fan can hope in an adaptation not a bit to bit remake... And come on there is so much fan service... The siblings reuniting (wish of every fan ever)... The Veera Raja Veera and Sol showing the characters in their happy place, and some severe refrences to the book... Many Dialogues being named after the Chapter titles... Nobody does this these days

Achara kirk..the younger Prince is Rajaraja Chola....he controlled not only Vast Indian territory but also South East Asia including Thailand as well at one point of time in history....so he was the emperor of your ancestors as well...this Movie is a story of Great Chola Emperor Rajaraja Chola who was also called Ponnyin Selvan..how he was crowned when his elder brother was assassinated and how his Sister and his sister's husband saved his life........His Son Rajendra Chola further expanded the Chola Empire...Both Father and Son are considered as the greatest Indian Emperors....They ruled vast areas wisely... ethically..morally and built great temples...

Uhm well this would be hard to understand if u haven’t read the book yet. I myself an Tamilian, at first for me remembering the names of the characters itself was a hard task, forget the movie since it has so many characters in it. But once I got to know it from my parents they briefed me about(m not a bookworm) so after that I watched it again, then I understood completely. This is a really history not a fantasy. A simple description would be: A war between chola kingdom(which is Vikram, his siblings Ravi and sis Trisha family kingdom name) ruling against rivals: Pandya kingdom(the kings’s daughter is aishwarya which is named as nandini). An Forbidden love and past rivalry between both this kingdoms comes into place. That’s what this movie is about. Keywords: struggle, friendship, romance, betrayal, dignity, power, sacrifices, misunderstandings, plotting, untrustworthy, bromance, unfairness all types of feelings is well shown in this movie.
