Paddy, I bet given a little bit of time, you would pick up Vietnamese easily. I used to live in Thailand, but have since moved to Vietnam. I am not trying to put down Thailand, but I am so happy I made the move, it suits me a lot better. I find everything is better in Vietnam, but again, that's a personal opinion. Good Luck.

First class is awesome, I flew to Thailand last year in first class with Thai Airlines.
I actually met you briefly at a cheap motel in Bangkok, thanks for giving me a few minutes of your time and being so friendly.

Went to visit a friend who works in Bangkok and he told me to stay at this place because it’s only a few doors down from his so we could hang out .
I spent 30k on a 6 week trip, it was awesome.
Hope you enjoy being the bloke no one wants to be around.

When I first started traveling and exploring various countries (Africa, Middle East, SE Asia) way back in the 1980's, I was a "young adult" and it seemed locals were so friendly, easy to carry a conversation. Your video clip with the Hanoi Vietnamese reminded me of how easy it was to casually meet people in a foreign country. Now being older with that "grumpy old man" appearance it seems locals of any country are more "distant" to meet. I wonder if having that youthful appearance and look of enthusiasm makes it easier to meet strangers in foreign countries?
Enjoy exploring Hanoi - every city in SE Asia is changing so quickly.

Hi Paddy! Too bad you only got to fly Business Class for only an hour. It would have been better if you flew from Australia to Vietnam on Business Class. The first time I ever flew in First Class was when I was flying to Hawaii from California, a 5-hour flight. I arrived at the airport late so the airline gave away my coach seat to Stand-By thinking that I wasn't going to make the flight. When I arrived at the gate, they were shocked that I made it so they were forced to give me the only seat available and it was in First Class. I didn't have to pay extra!

@@ThaiTalkwithPaddy😂😂😂, I flew Vietnam airlines from Melbourne to London last year in economy and I found it to be pretty good, the food and the service. I would like to visit Vietnam, but I’m going back to Thailand in May it’s hard when you have an old friend there and you love the food the people and the beaches. Also I have been traveling to Thailand since the mid 90’s,I tend to avoid the sleazy tourist areas though as it’s not my scene and I don’t drink, so sitting in a bar is boring unless there is some live music, also drunk people are annoying. Have a wonderful time Paddy.

I'll be honest. I went to Hanoi 5 years ago. It was horrible. Reminded me of New Zealand, beautiful place, horrible people. Anything remotely touristy was a complete trap. The tooting in cities drove me nuts. The roosters on rooftops woke me up at 5am every morning.

It was such a great experience, and I found Hanoi to be a beautiful city too.
