1:10 The ability to go beyond like the MSI is helpful when you put the laptop on a stand. This allows to further increase the incline level on the stand and reach a higher altitude for the screen, so you don't have to look down while you use the laptop.
It's also useful when your'e working with a external screen and you want to switch off the laptop's screen and just use its keyboard. That way you don't hide part of the screen, with the laptop.

I was considering buying a Blade 15, but I've always read troubling reports about Razer's QC failings. So many posts about battery bulge and multiple RMAs on the Razer subreddit. Still, the design looks very nice.
Matthew a suggestion: you should start asking for the base models to review and not the highest specs. After $2000 I think the market gets narrower. There are already excellent devices (even from the same companies you review) in the range of 1.2k which is much more conpetitive and interesting.
I talk about the base model in this video along with showing performance. I also compared base model blade 15 with gtx 1660ti to advance in a separate video!
I have a razer 15 advance model and love it. Although I can agree they are over priced but it does run smooth all the time and never really gets too hot and kills all the games I play
@@sadliminals3429 loud fans are actually normal however, there must be a loudness limit. Fans ARE NOT supposed to be loud while doing light browsing such as watching TH-cam etc. Gaming with Loud fans are normal but there is a limit to the loud. Getting hot is another thing that I agree on, but you must check on the source of why it's hot. I run my blade 15 on max GPU and CPU and I can say it's firing hot. Doing light things such as writing an email or browsing should not be hot if so, that means the battery is used up to limits or just starting to bloat. Honestly I do not recommend getting a blade 15 if you are scared of their durability because claiming a warranty can be super difficult if your state do not receive them. It might take weeks for RMA approval, Weeks to ship it over and weeks to ship it back. Damages cause while shipping can also be caused due to long distance travelling(change in drastic temperature etc). My best advice is to get something that u can easily fix nearby you or something not too expensive so that u can get easy replacement.
The only reason I would pick the Razer is because of the Delete Key placement. But the 99W battery on the MSI is also sweat. If I was rich I would have a dilemma 😅
Thanks for the vid! I ordered my MSI GS66 yesterday and I was really in a battle between the Razer blade 15 base model, but I think I made the right choice with the GS66.

and no spare part...when anything broke with warrenty i would just go with razer... since they made the same OEM part for forever... while asus keep changing their shit every few months...
Hey man! I really love your content. Can you please do a comparison between the new Blade 15 and the new XPS 15? Would be great if you could do a full review on the XPS 15 as well! Cheers! Keep safe!!
I've already picked MSI GS66 and I am having fun with it.. My only complaint with the device is the very bad speakers ... Its been more than a month now and I still get annoyed sometimes from these speakers! :/
As a videographer, the Razer Blade better speakers and overall appearance is very attractive for quick presentations with a client. But the much smaller included SSD, the lack of a 2nd NVME drive and of an ethernet port is a bummer. Also the higher price tag of the Blade would mean less new video equipment this year.
I was on the edge between these two laptops. At first, I was going with the Blade. Few days later, I decided that GS66 was a slightly better pick for me. They’re both fantastic laptops, but I prefer the MSI more.
I got mine like 5 days ago aw m17 r3 i7 10th 1660ti 144hz gsync. I was surprised with the thermals. on idle I get 40-55c on full load 50-65c and that's it. I mostly play league of legends I get 240fps uncapped max settings. the screen is so much better than my aw 17 r4(2017) even though that one got 1440p 120hz gsync this new one is noticeable better even with lower specs, this goes with its speakers as well, not as good as the one on macbook pro though. the fans are very quiet as well. I was able to undervolt it -0.0120 but the thermals are so good that it's just like a bonus to decrease the numbers a little lower. the laptop is also freaking thin like thin af for a 17", the footprint is only as big as the usual 15 laptops so I don't really feel like carrying a 17' laptop. the weight is there but it's not that heavy. all in all I was very impressed. the only thing that concerns me is the hinge. I hear little clicks of plastic or screws. it's very minimal that my sister wasnt able to hear it when I was showing it to her so you will need to be in a very quiet room but after noticing it I cant help but being bothered by it more than it should and this is a $2k laptop so I don't think this is acceptable. I will return it and opt for an m15 with same specs since the bezels are slimmer now and because the thermals are otherworldly and it performs more than expected. just wanna share my thoughts so here you go :)
I was wondering which to choose over msi GS66 with a GTX2070 or Razer base model with GTX2060, both in the same price (1799$). I just ended up ordering the Blade 15 over the msi GS66 based on this review. I think its better to sacrifice a little bit of performance over build quality as I will be using it more on productivity than gaming (which consumes the processor more than the graphic card). However, great review and thanks for this Matthew, really helped!
@@danielkach9551 no The mobile models never come out the same time as desktop. It's usually 3-6 months to build a device around them with proper cooling
I have a weird idea about how to use the 180° display, put the bottom half of the laptop on a adjustable stand like the omoton one while the display is flipped 180° this will elevate the monitor to a good height while working at a desk, although you may have to disable the trackpad. Another good thing about this orientation is that the front firing speakers of the GS66 will be pointed directly towards you and the thermals would be good too as the bottom of the laptop and the vent won't be covered. It's a weird idea but it may be practical for those who don't have budget for a monitor or space for one (like if they live in a small appartment with a folding desk) and still want to work at their desk comfortably. You'd need to buy a keyboard and mouse tho. Another advantage of this method is the webcam will be at eye level for video conferencing.
Hello Matthew, Thank you for this superb comparison review (and leaving out the so common and highly annoying music track accompaniment). It seems that there is just one person here on TH-cam, having received an MSI Creator 17 mini LED laptop and this a few weeks ago. No other reviews from the usual popular reviewers so far. It may just be that you have this particular laptop 'hidden' under your desk, waiting for a review embargo to be lifted? I am interested in the Dell XPS 17 and the LED MSi laptops, but without a respected reviewer (like yourself) having had a closer look, I am not placing my BUY order.
I've used the highest spec GS65-8SG for more than a year, and it's been a great experience with this beauty. I've found no serious problem except the backlit RGB on several keys. Two things you have to do to make the CPU of GS65 cooler are (1) replace the thermal paste with something better and (2) undervolt the CPU by -100 mV if you play games or -150 mV if you don't. By the way, I have already ordered the GS66, hope it will arrive soon... :)
@@MatthewMoniz I think there is an option for undervolting in BIOS settings for GS66. It's a lot more convenient to do so too while throttlestop can't be used with 10th gen intel. For replacing the thermal paste, it is not difficult actually, but you're right that it will void the warranty.
great video, I would have personally liked a "creation" benchmark comparison? maybe Puget Premiere Benchmark or something like that, to complement your last second remarks about SD card, and speakers, that to me are less important that performance during the creation.
Honestly, I think the real reason it extends 180* is because its the same chassis as the MSI Creator lineup, which also extends 180* and has built in software to flip the display for presentation mode.

Great comparison. I love the build quality of the razer. I never really considered a msi laptop. Great video!
but they it will die 1 to 3......so dont buy a gaming laptop buy a gaming pc
I believe MSI provides the best cooling solutions for laptops
I have a pc that I built. But that’s awesome the have great cooling. The need to share it with Dell
My msi crapped out on me after a year
Nash Mundondo What model did you have?

@@MatthewMoniz aah I see.
Really good comparison you made there. I hope your channel will receive more views in the future. Keep up with the good work.
Thank you !!! I appreciate it
Thanks a lot Matth. As always, great review💪🏻.
I have a razer 15 advance model and love it. Although I can agree they are over priced but it does run smooth all the time and never really gets too hot and kills all the games I play
can you update on this? i’ve heard all sorts of things about razer laptops either breaking, getting too hot, or having super loud fans
My best advice is to get something that u can easily fix nearby you or something not too expensive so that u can get easy replacement.
great comparison, thanks for this. currently have RB15 Adv 2018
Great review ! If you need that 180 degree feature, you're only gonna get it with the gs66 lol
The only reason I would pick the Razer is because of the Delete Key placement.
But the 99W battery on the MSI is also sweat.
If I was rich I would have a dilemma 😅
A fucking delete key...
Uh, if you were rich you could just get both, OR order a custom design,
Dilemmas are for the non-rich like the rest of us
@@agps4418 Haha
Just ordered GS66, cannot wait!
how is your msi?
Thanks for the vid! I ordered my MSI GS66 yesterday and I was really in a battle between the Razer blade 15 base model, but I think I made the right choice with the GS66.
Hope you enjoy it!
Where did you order it? The 2060 model is out of stock everywhere I've looked.
I got the MSI too you won’t be disappointed it has a VERY solid build quality and it’s definitely worth it for the money. I considered the Razer but in my opinion it’s overpriced.
@@russiandan I bought mine on Newegg last week
@@arcticfrost745 Agreed that the Razer is pretty over priced but if it's on sale, I'd take it over the GS66
Thank you so much! This was the perfect video for those of us looking at the 2 best blacked out thin and light laptops in 2020!
I have the 2020 razer blade 15 advanced model myself and I am astonished by how quite it is when it runs on battery. Super balanced laptop for both office working and gaming!
Really really good review, need more of those :) Can’t wait for a review on the 10th gen Ge75 Raider. And one last thing. Is it me or they just don’t make laptops as much as “quality-built” as in the past ?
i’ve been waiting for this for quite some time
I am waiting for the Asus Rog S15 review
-Nvidia optimist with variable refresh rate
-Pre applied liquid thermal paste
-115w rtx 2070/2080 super vs 80/90w on others
-3200mhz ram
-1tb SSD in raid 0 config
-better speakers
and no spare part...when anything broke with warrenty i would just go with razer... since they made the same OEM part for forever... while asus keep changing their shit every few months...
campkira but what if the quality in the Razer part is poor. Meanwhile msi see that the part needs improving and refreshing?
Just stumbled upon your channel, great review - I'm subscribing :)
Hey man! I really love your content. Can you please do a comparison between the new Blade 15 and the new XPS 15? Would be great if you could do a full review on the XPS 15 as well! Cheers! Keep safe!!
Coming soon!
Great video, for that one person living in Europe, this MSI is crazy expensive over here and just does not make sense even compared to Razer pricing.
There's a lot of us that live in Europe and watch tech review videos... Just sayin' we have a lot more people than North America...
Informative as always!
Next up please do HP Omen 017 RTX 3080 vs. MSI GE66 Steelseries RTX 3080
Thanks and have a good one 😊
Yay!!!! I’ve been waiting for this!
Yaayyy I looking for this review for so loooonggg 👍
Thanks for the comparison!
I've already picked MSI GS66 and I am having fun with it.. My only complaint with the device is the very bad speakers ... Its been more than a month now and I still get annoyed sometimes from these speakers! :/
Did you try the following fix? :
www.reddit.com/r/MSILaptops/comments/gpvhl9/i_made_filter_for_flattest_frequency_response_for/
its not the audio card's problem its the speakers. Get a pair of nice headphones
I got the gs66 i9 2070 super max q, this thing is a beast, ultra settings in warzone and I'm around 170 fps
damn is it not getting loud the fan?
Errol Delos Santos I would say it’s medium sound wise, at least the heat is under control compared to the Garbo razor
Thank you! I can now decide which one i gonna buy in my dreams ! 👌🏻
I was on the edge between these two laptops. At first, I was going with the Blade. Few days later, I decided that GS66 was a slightly better pick for me. They’re both fantastic laptops, but I prefer the MSI more.
how is your msi going?
Yeah, like Prashant said, How is your Msi going?
I totally needed this video. Thank you
Please review the Legion 7. Should be interesting to see how it fares against these machines
Legion 7 is shit with the hinge. Don't bother
Great comparison! Really clears things up for me :D
You're the man. I was looking at both of these and your video helped me make my decision. I'm going MSI. Thanks!
Glad I could help!
How is your msi?
I wanted this video so much! Thanks
I wanted this so much. Thank you.
You’re welcome !
Great vid as always. Now hit us with the alienware m15 r3 review. I wanna see what that vapor chamber does for the 10th gen 6-core!
U forgot that z msi has gsync while the razer doesn't...
Very nice vid as always and keep up👍👍👍
no, the GS66 doesn't have G-Sync. It does have a mux switch to disable optimus, but no G-Sync
Hi Matthew! This haircut suits you!
Hey, thanks! Still miss my old hair though lol
Currently using the gs65 and have been thinking about the gs66. I think I might just buy it because of the upgradability fix
Just the video I wanted to see! Yet, I might wait for RTX 3000. Cheaper pricing and 7nm architecture! (Keep up the good work)
Rtx 3000 laptops will probably be spring of next year so if you can wait why not
@@ancientflames There coming out in 2 weeks

I also requested this comparison - but between the GS66 and Blade 15 Base (not Advanced)... lol.
I hope you get the chance to review the Asus Zephyrus M15 (Black aluminum cover/single-lit keys) or the S15!
I needed this.

I'm one in those 4 who watch your videos and am also in the 2 who requested the comparison, thanks for acknowledging me Matt! 😂😂
Presentations skills 10 out of 10 👌👌👌👌👌👌
Thank you !❤️
Hello Matthew, Thank you for this superb comparison review (and leaving out the so common and highly annoying music track accompaniment).
''like a lot of u guys ehhhh..... 2 of u'' that got me laughing
Great video 👍👍
I really want to see this review even if i cant buy either of those two. Love it!
Can’t undervolt the 10th gen processors and I don’t recommend repasting to anyone as it will void your warranty
I think the display going back all the way kind of helps with when you accidentally push it too far. So it's accident-proof in a way
Honestly, I think the real reason it extends 180* is because its the same chassis as the MSI Creator lineup, which also extends 180* and has built in software to flip the display for presentation mode.
Why did i just watch this i can afford neither
With that mentality you will never
I got the oled version and holy shit has razers quality control improved! The oled panel is flawless without banding at all! .5%grey,1%grey, any grey! 🤩 2080 super is bonkers too! I talk about the panel because i got a couple 2019 versions Oled and they were ok but some had banding.
'WHY would you want to use your display at 180 degrees beats me'
Great video ..both laptops are awesome but razer Blade clean look is great 👍🏻
