I have only found this video now. I've been using G7Xmk3 for the last 1,5 year - before that I used Lumix LX10. What I find the most irritating is the image softness in 1080p. It's just terribly soft compared to what I got on LX10. I believe part of that is due to stabilization, but I always use the "low" setting for stabilization. Today I tried something different - I recorded in 4K and turned the stabilization totally off in the menu. I thought that the optical stabilization would still work - that the setting pertains only to electronic stabilization. Boy was I wrong! The footage came abysmally shaky. I tried stabilizing it in post, but even with a huge crop the image would strangely warp, shake and distort itself as I was walking with the camera. And of course the result was not as sharp as it was before applying stabilization. I don't know frankly what to do with it. Record only in 4K with stabilization on "low" even if I care only about a sharp 1080p output? Because with 1080p recording on the camera, the only way to achieve a satisfying image quality (that is, on par with the old LX10) is to run the footage through Topaz Video AI, and it takes hours even on my RTX 2080S. It's hilariously irritating. I wish Panasonic would just release a follow-up to LX10 with no-crop 1080 and 4K recording, but I guess it will never happen.

Great stuff! I’ve had this camera a few days and think you are spot on! I was most worried about af and while servo is not so quick I am finding the focus working well for me overall in vlog testing and not had the issues I’ve seen many have with this camera. It is also nice to be able to temporarily disable servo af with a tap on the screen. Other reviewers’ issues make me wonder if there are sample variations or just maybe my old, wrinkled face has enough contrast for the camera to lock on 😂 4K is great and though I mostly shoot 1080/60 it is nice having it. Definitely more detail in the raw image but after downsizing and compressing I can’t really tell the difference with the 1080 anyway.

Can you review the Sony RX100 V? After VA, they ditched the built-in ND and the aperture is "only" 2.8. So Thats why I think you should review the RX100 V.
To what extent is the camera protected against splashing water? My brand new Sony RX100 M7 failed completely after a few takes in rainy weather. Sony now charges almost 600 Euro for the repair.

I chose Canon as a point and shoot mostly because of the user interface, which is quite poor on Sony. Sony has much better AF of course, and probably better color science because of the picture profiles, so it depends on your preferences. If it was my primary camera I might have chosen Sony, but I have other camera that can do what G7X III can't.

I'm going to use it for travel vlogging. I know the best settings for face tracking when I'm showing myself in the camera. What about when I turn the camera around and I want to show what's in front of me? Landscape, urban life, etc. Do I just turn autofocus off? What is your advice on the best settings?
FW updates didn't help at all. There is new setting for faster AF, but there is unacceptable amount of hunting, so it is unusable. I don't recommend buying G7X III in 2020.
How much manual control do you have in video? I have a Sony Rx100 mk1 and I can go full manual in video (iso, shutter speed, aperture, and sharpening, contrast and saturation levels). I have a Canon G1X MK2 that only goes full auto in video. How much manual control do you have in G7X mk3 in video?
It’s horrific, but Canon (on Twitter) did say they are working to fix it, so hopefully they get something done soon. At least make it as good as the G7xII (sad that it’s a downgrade at this point).
Hello! I was unable to copy any files from my canon mark g7x mark ii. So, I transferred the sd card on my phone and connected to the computer. After that i just saw that there is nothing in the memory card. 😭 idk where my files went. Then when I re-entered that sd card to my canon camera it showed "Memory Card Error" 😭 I don't care about the card. But I badly need those files of my memory card. How to recover them. any idea? please please help 😭
Absolutely not, ZV-1 would still be much better camera. Especially the video from ZV-1 is in completely different league + it doesn't have overheating issues.
Those who knows cameras in Europe shoot in 25p. This is not a cinema camera, 24p or 30p makes basically no difference in the video look on small 1" sensor camera.
Sadly at 1:30, in the sky I see that you also have chem-trails like we do here in USA on an otherwise nice blue sky. I wish there was something we citizens could do to stop this pollution.
I had the g7xii it was amazing I just switched to sony a6000 and it was garbage didn’t have a flip up screen and very disappointed in the quality So I traded it for the g7xmkiii and love it quality is better and overall just a better camera
A6000 is a different type of camera, but it is certainly better camera than G7X III overall. If you need selfie screen, Sony ZV-1 is much better choice.
A really interesting review containing some very useful tips - thank you. I've had my G7X III for about a year now and I get more an more impressed with it the more I use it. One thing that has bothered me is the fact that Lightroom 6 won't recognise the CR3 files. This means you have to use Adobe DNG to convert them into a format it does recognise. Quite apart from being a pain in the neck I always had a nagging doubt that there was some image degredation occurring during the conversion. So, I decided to forget LR6 for a while and try an alternative that did recognise the files - FastStone. I couldn't believe the difference. RAWs straight out of the camera, with no conversion or editing, looked so much better. Has anyone else experienced the same concern?
6 is a very old, obsolete version of lightroom. G7X III files work with no issues in newer versions. The output is very underwhelming by today's standards, though.

To no extent, these 1" sensor cameras are not weather sealed.

Thank you, I have never used G7X II, but GX7 III has one of the worst AF system that I have ever tested, shooting 1080p doesn't help much.

I can’t get 100FPS or the level indicator working on mine. Bizarre!
Level indicator doesn't work if you use face / tracking AF mode, I'm not sure about 100 fps.
The Hybrid Shooter I figured out how to get 100FPS. Still stuck with trying to get an electronic level. Crikey, why have they made it so difficult ?!
You can usually find out why something doesn't work in the manual, but it is definitely truth that some of the limitations have no logic.

Unfortunately, I've sold it a long time ago. The G7X III video quality is generally quite poor, so there is not much to do about that.

Honestly, once you've used the video eye AF in the RX100 VII it's hard to go back to a camera without it. That feature alone is a game changer.

You can try some recovery software.

You need to look into the lens to prevent that.
