Right now I have no other light (I use sunlight through the window), but I want to not depend on it since the clouds make it unreliable and difficult to color-correct. @@benjohnsoncreative thanks for the fast reply...I actually went with two of The Raleno LED Lights but if they don’t do me justice I’ll return and grab these
What was the other light in the wide shot above your head? A fill light?
That’s a rim light, also known as a hair light
@@benjohnsoncreative where can I find that light?
It is no longer available in the amazon but thank you very much ...
It comes back in stock often!
Thanks so much for the value you share in your videos, appreciate it!
You’re welcome! Glad you enjoyed!
Amazing ben keep going!!! I am planning of buying this light
Awesome Aanosh!
Can I buy 2 of these and use these as key and fill light for cinematic look?
You can! I usually run my key light really low brightness (10-20%) so you’d just have to work on balancing your key and fill but definitely doable with this light
@@benjohnsoncreative
I don't think this is available in India.
Is this the one only? www.amazon.in/OCTOVA-Simpex-Studio-Light-SL-30/dp/B07Y5P6197/ref=sr_1_6?m=A13N8FM4TOSE9I&marketplaceID=A21TJRUUN4KGV&qid=1657879728&s=merchant-items&sr=1-6
In the UK its over double the price. Are there any other alternatives that we can get for less than $60 - $80 in the UK?
hey ben, may have missed you saying it in the video, but I'm assuming you are using this light setup in the actual video, right?
Yes!
@@benjohnsoncreative Cool, just wondering if there’s a possibility to mount the light itself on a desk clamp with a 1/4 screw ballhead, you know if it’s possible at all?
Always giving us value
Thanks Audu! Trying haha! Appreciate your feedback and encouragement! 🙏🏻
@@benjohnsoncreative checked it out and I can actually buy two for less than 70
Will this work well for food photography? I’m going from natural light to artificial light and I want to make sure this light has a decent amount of umpf behind it. The Godox SL 60W is what I would go for ideally but if this works it is hard to beat that price point
Honestly for photography you may want to use flash, as it is much stronger
But, I do think if you get this light close enough it will do a decent job especially for the price
What fill light do you recommend with this key light? I can only afford two lights and have planed buying this one of the video, and one more but idk which one. Any recommendations?
If you position this well you won’t need one
Purchased using your link!
Amazing! Thanks for the support!
Super helpful video. Would you still recommend an additional fill and rem light with this set up? What have you been using as addional light in this video?
And could one of the viltrox lights be used as a rem light in this set up?
And also want to add that I‘ve been watching your videos for the last few hours and have already learned so much from them. Keep up your good work :)
Thanks for watching Lena yes I would recommend at Least a rim light and one of the viltrox could work for it, I typically have been using one of the yn360 lights as seen in this video here: th-cam.com/video/wibnuzuwzi8/w-d-xo.html
If angled properly you can get away with just the key light, but the fill can be nice to have as an option
Very informative video. Thanks for sharing. Have a great day..👍💰🎉
Thanks for watching!
Is it bright enough for a photo booth group to get a bright picture? Will have two of them
It should be! A lot of that depends on the rest of the environment but these lights get fairly bright
would be this good for outdoor music videos in the night ?
It would work but you'd need long extension cables to power it. I'd go with a battery powered light instead, like this: amzn.to/3Zoh3OB
@@benjohnsoncreative i’ll check it out. you a W mans for the response, appreciate you!
How many W should the light be to have it shine like that. Currently I have 50W light with a soft box but it doesn’t give me a good light
This softbox light is only 45W. You don’t usually need a super strong light if you’re in a controlled environment and use manual camera settings
Are you using a grey backdrop in the background? 😊
Yes! This explains it: th-cam.com/video/AmF5mp4SGAE/w-d-xo.html
Ben, I love your content. Keep up the good work
Thanks Joyce! Challenge Accepted!
@@benjohnsoncreative awesome!
If I had three of GVM RGB lights, would you recommend a setup using those three, or would you recommend using two of those and one of these? Which combination would yeild a better look in your opinion? Any difference?
Use this as the key light, it’s softer and more flattering, the gvm lights I’d use as the background color or rim light
@@benjohnsoncreative Thank you!
It is tremendously beneficial to have a dedicated remote.
Indeed!
Great info, going to be upgrading my lights soon. This is exactly what I need for my content
Awesome! I hope it works well for you!
One year later! I just got two of these for $50!
But I can’t seem to get the “soft” look I want :( currently using a SL3 with the kit lens. I’m guessing the kit lens isn’t the best.
I also have a 50mm lens but is way too cropped and my camera is literally 15 ft away!
Help!
Where are you placing your lights?
Very useful video , I learned lot from it, looking forward more videos like this keep it up good work, R.manohar , india, chennai
Thanks Manohar! Glad you enjoyed the video!
Hey great tutorial been! Quick question for you what is your focal length on your lens when you do these type of shots also how far back are you standing from the camera
A lot of time I use a very wide lens, and am close to camera: th-cam.com/video/TBcMoR0laxk/w-d-xo.html
Hey Ben do you know if they sell just the bulbs?
I believe they do!
Seeing this literally a day after ordering the Viltrox setup used in your other video..... 🙄🙃 Love your videos btw
The viltrox set up is still great :)
If you are ready to pay $50. You cancel the Viltrox and buy this one
@@FeelFreetoEdit yeah I’d buy this one
Awesome product, Ben. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching Matt!
Excellent review Ben! Feel free to let me know if you've done any comparisons with this Mountdog softbox vs the Neewer softbox, or if you have any info or opinions between those options!
I did compare it to this godox light: th-cam.com/video/ngFHWWkkUx8/w-d-xo.html
Enjoying your vids Ben, really helping me
Awesome Andy!
I got the 300w kit for 20 bucks and that includes a mesh insert too :)
Nice!
