    The personal finance class is fantastic. My daughter's school has it and she just finished it. It was amazing how well it sat with these kids. Such an important age to learn these skills. Our area is very recessed, 30% at poverty. I am digging out of my debt and she is all into it and we will be paying her college with CASH. She is saving up and we are too. Reasonable state school she can live home to attend. I will change my family tree and now I know because of this class she will continue it forward.

      I'm so happy for you and your daughter! Depending on her career field, is it possible for her to get a part-time job in her field where the company might offer tuition assistance? Dave has mentioned that and I had never heard about that before.

    Regarding the child support question, they aren't totally correct. It's really a state by state thing. Granted, I am on the other side of the coin, but in Illinois, if I get married again, the state WILL take my new husband's income into account. Illinois takes the parents' incomes and splits the child support based on percentages and majority custody. They will assume my expenses are lower because they are now shared with my new husband and my ex would get to have his child support amount lowered. It's the #1 reason why my fiance and I aren't getting legally married until after my kids are grown. My fiance has 3 kids of his own that he dutifully pays child support for, and neither one of us thinks it's fair that his income would be supporting 6 kids. My kids dad should do his duty regardless.

    • @SuzanneU
      @SuzanneU 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Dave should not give advice outside of his sphere of knowledge. There are three basic child support models: Income Shares Model (41 states), Melson Formula Model (3 states) and Percentage of Income Model (3 states.) Her state is the Income Shares Model - but their situation may also depend on what state the parents were in when they divorced and also where the custodial parent lives. What I CANNOT figure out about this show is that George is sitting there with a computer which he CLOSES when the show starts. (Must be the policy not to be online during the show.) If he had been able to OPEN that computer, he could have checked this out easily. No one knows everything. As the show expands into areas beyond strictly financial, what is the problem with looking up something on the computer during the show?

    The hardest question to answer:
    How do you save up for transportation while continuing to work?
    - I think this is the root behind the car loan. If you dont have a car, it is more difficult to get to work. So it is easier to take out a loan, and say this is my saving for a car. But that becomes a slippy slope, that leads to credit card spending, and other debt, to the point where all of your income is accounted for, and you have no money for anything else, like food, and its even easier to do that of you are a low wage worker.

      Yeah no. 1st, most people don't get enough child support to blow on themselves. 2nd, child support is usually a reimbursement from money already spent. A kid still needs food to eat on the 12th even if she check doesn't arrive until the 20th. 3rd, that's just simply not a thing.

    I disagree the term insurance. Due to the point, I gave the VA monthly payments, and when I retired, it was gone. Due to the point, they wanted to raise the premium to many times what I was paying, whiile serving, so all the money was gone also. I'd rather just put it into the one you call Roth and keep it building for the future.

    Dave is wrong about child support. Child support court routinely miscalculates. I read laws to the magistrate in court and the ruling was against the law. Never pay child support through the court. Anyone who trusts the system never had to. If you have children outside of a marriage, change your name and move to a different state.
