The sai is a mainstay weapon in karate-kobudo (e.g. Okinawan martial arts). It's shape gives it a much wider variety of holds, techniques and applications than many other truncheons posses. It is a true hybrid weapon as it it can pierce club, trap and be thrown very effectively.
