Thanks for this vid’! As an owner, just some comments: not precisely the same underneath as a Milano/75. It’s based on the competition 75 - shorter wheel base, race suspension, ground effect, tuned V6 (210 vs 180 PS). I own an SZ, it’s indeed an incredible driving experience. And the design ages surprisingly well: amongst the young 18+ agers (ie my kids), the car is an 80ies design icon. In fact, the car won an award at the 2021 Zurich Classic Car Awards for Youngtimer… One last comment: the best Busso sits in my 147 GTA.

I both love the design of the SZ and remember fondly of owning and driving a Busso 3.0 V6 powered car. I had an Alfa 164. Got a member of the ex racing team to service it and he played with the engine limiter and a few other bits. Red line is about 7,500, but I can tell you they are good for 9,000!!!!!!! And yes the really surprising thing about the engine is how quick the revs rise or fall, I think due to lack of balancer shafts. Plus the comedy is it pulls away strongly and just keeps pulling. Used to wind up passengers, by pulling away in second. When you think the car would run out of puff at 6,000rpm, instead you put your foot down harder and it just kept going to 9,000!!!!!!

I love your videos and the SZ is a very, very special Alfa, but claiming that Enzo Ferrari was Alfa Romeo's F1 team boss in 1951 was a disappointing thing to hear. Sure, he was *a* team boss in the 1951 F1 season, but of course for Alfa's competitor Scuderia Ferrari. He had nothing to do with neither the 158 nor the 159. While the relationship between Alfa Romeo, Ferrari, Fiat, Maserati and Lancia have always been full of politics, drama and personal rivalry, there is no real need to namedrop Enzo Ferrari in an SZ special. Thanks!

Having grown up driving my dad's GTV6 I've always loved the SZ. I saw one in the infield at Road Atlanta's Walter Mitty weekend some year back, it looked pretty awesome to me. Think of it as a GTV6 with some balls.

I personally love how this looks. It's unique and that big ass only looks bad in the drophead. The SZ looks like a 2-seat F-15 fighter cockpit, and the angular lines a refreshing. Ever since panel makers have figured out multi-vector curves on the cheap every average car has all these insane "emotion" lines. It's the "ugly" ones that care how it drives instead of how it looks.
    Would daily.

SZ was designed by Antonio Castellana from FIAT Centro Stile. Regarding the suspensions it was similar to 75 IMSA (it had coil springs instead of the torsion bars). SZ was able to archive 1.3g of the lateral acceleration.

This design may not be for everyone, but Alfa Romeo isn't an everyone brand. It's actually growing on me! I can see Alfa Romeo using this design for an electric coupe/ hatchback in the future.

Peculiarly, this a totally beautiful car, very much like the Lancia Hyena. I used to work on the cross-channel ferries between Dover and Calais. One of our "Regular Customers" was a red (obviously) SZ. When I used to see it drive on on our cctv, I would always go down for another look at it's peculiar, but utterly entrancing lines. The interior looked very driver focused, but also comfortable. All the test reports suggest it was a fantastic driver's car. I wish I could afford one!

I have to agree! I thoroughly enjoy Jason's Revelations series. It is presented in a very thoughtful manner. The history and reason for the vehicles existence is very well explained. Hey Jason any chance you can do an episode on the vehicles I own? 1985 Alfa Romeo GTV 6 and 1986 BMW Euro Spec M635CSi. Love the show, keep them coming!

I build Alfa's and Ferraris for a living. I drove an SZ to auction about a year ago. I was simply astounded. Best sounding V6 ever. So smooth and absolutely perfect in every way. Styling is beautiful and arresting in the flesh and I took her to 120 MPH on the motorway. No problems at all. Lovely lovely car.

I have always loved the design of SZ, because of it's radical difference to anything else. I was but a pip-squeak when it came out and by the time I was allowed to drive, not affordable... The 6 headlights were, to me, awesome. So much so that when I was able to, I ordered a 159, because it had 6 headlights.... well sort of...
