The need to stop obsessing over realistic graphics and game length are just two recommendations out of many that Layden offered to GamesIndustry.biz, but they stick out the most. He pointed out that only 32% of players are finishing the games they start, so devs are “making a lot of game that 68% of the people aren’t seeing.”
Layden didn’t say where he got the data he’s quoting, but we have seen trophy statistics for some major games, like Red Dead Redemption 2, that suggest that a large number of players aren’t actually finishing games.
Speaking of photorealism, Layden said that some of the graphical improvements that devs are chasing are barely noticed by the average player, but they are costing a lot of time and resources to implement. “We’re in the realm of differences that only dogs can hear,” he remarked.

Sony Rewards website and mobile application will shut down on December 31, 2024. If games are going to be shorter then the price needs to reflect that. Shorter games should be no more than $50.
No more than 30 . 50 dollars is a standard price. 70 is over priced and it shouldnt even happened.

Games have been 30-50 dollars since NES, 35 ish for Atari games. The equipment and skills costs more to make these current games so for them to hit 60-70 bucks sucks but it's expected. You guys spend 1000s on pop, energy drinks, cigs, marijuana and complain about a measley 70 bucks on a game lol
@@user-wg3qe2og6vactually according to ads I’ve found from magazines I had as a kid, the average game since basically the beginning of gaming has averaged 55 bucks roughly give or take a couple bucks bc of the area BUT they were physical media with a whole case and booklet that were crafted but now you get a digital product without a case and no booklet 9/10 instead of physical media, the price should reflect that notion. I’ll spend a shit ton on a natural medicine, I’m only dropping 70 on a game with alotta content. If that shit is 10 hours long it should cost over 30 bucks don’t give me barely any content but you expect full price. That’s a clown world move. Hell I just dropped 80 on Elden ring w the expansion, I would’ve gladly paid 70 for the game and 40 for the expansion if they didn’t bundle them together lol

Part of the reason games cost so damn much is because they are making games 50 hours minimum, half of which is really weak padding to force the game to be 50 hours.

Cuz even if you shorten the length of games and thereby increase the quality, I can guarantee you it's *still* not going to feel like gamers are going to feel satisfied. It's the price. You take out all that padding, the price can't just stay up there, that's for sure
Nothing wrong with long games as long as the story and gameplay is good to make the player want to spend the time, the persona games for example
I'm 850h into Elden Ring & 275h into Helldivers 2. Stellar Blade won't go under 100h either. Good thing there are exceptional devs still out there who provide that kind of game design.
I milk my games, I can play a long RPG for months easily and I don't want short games. I don't buy short games unless they've been out awhile & are cheaper. I love long AC & Far Cry games but I get that not everybody else does

I remember megaman battle network 3 costing around 40 brand new and I swear I put over 500 hours into that game. I know I put more than 1000 hours into phantasy star online and that was 50 brand new on the gamecube. City of heroes that was multiple years of playing and god knows how many time cards me and my brother spent our allowances on, till it went f2p. 300-400 hours in tf2, and if you include the orange box at 50 for 5 games like holy shit, that was a steal.
20 bucks for gmod and that was 5 summers of entertainment. Seriously what were old game devs doing right that modern ones cannot do now? Shit animal well already gave me 80 hours just from off and on again playtime.
There's way too many other games to include but it's like 80 for one game is legit too much now a days for the lack of polish most games have now a days.

If the game it's good and engaging no problem, what I hate it's that for some trophies you have to play online multiplayer.
I know right? They should make Multiple linked Trophies into a different Platinum or mark them as "Optional" and there was some Trophies back in the day when you had to Go against a Dev Stuiod Member and I unlock. ( They later made a Bot but that was deleted when the Servers were taken now, so there's now 100+ Games thats impossible to Platinum unless you File Break your game)
It dipens on diviculty if u play all ur games or some in hard mode u get more trophies on i think on ps3 u get trophies offline dont remember i mean if its story mode u get strophies but gg cool still online is a most

Fighting games have this issue. The way the fg devs set them up is stupid. Trophies for shit thats not related to getting better. Trophies for shit like starting story mode and winning 10 matches in mp is kind of shit.
I think this is the opposite for me there jimjim...if blowing 70 on a game i better be getting every penny...especially considering im an old generation gamer so id prefer the longer story so i get fully invested into the game
How old of an “old generation” gamer are you. We old generation gamers use to pay $50 on NES games which based on inflation would be like paying for a $110 game in todays money and the vast majority can be beat in a few hours.

6/23/24 I really enjoyed This PS Sony review as to game length for single player games, I have a collection of older games that were well done like you mentioned in video and enjoy replaying as time passing and memory fades, but with to many it is sometime hard choosing which ones to replay with things to do and limited time to play them as life happens, plus dividing my time between Sony PS and MS Xbox, and being an older gamer time to catching up and finding the time to play is limited.
I knew about the rewards system and it was nice getting 5 $- 10$ back after every other purchase. I even got free dlc from it.
Sucks to see it go.

Long games are still great even better if massive ones with additional DLCs like ESO as I have over 1k hrs yet still need to complete a number of tasks and yet more are added all the time.

I do agree that games should be shorter with more of a focus on replay-ability instead. Like saint's row, GTA, CoD. Games like those have super high replay-ability

This is just my opinion on how to interpret "use the machine more during development" I don't think it is necessarily referring to AI but utilizing the system that they are designing the game for more, focusing more on performance and not constantly having bugs or glitches (looking at you Bethesda) to make sure that everything is running to their expectations across the board and not aiming to "push the limits" of things just to say they did.
TLDR: the better an artist knows their canvis the more efficient and detailed their work can be
There are many reasons why people don't earn alot of trophies depends on the type of person some don't care, some don't get a chance to play that often and by time they are almost done a new game comes out some are kids that don't have the skill and/or patience to earn them we should get games that are long that are easy and difficult for every type of person not every game should only last 10-20 hrs
Honestly, when it comes to long-ish games, I think of Lego. You want to blaze through, that's cool. If you want to 100% games like HP, LOTR, or Skywalker, it can take you a minute. Personally, I love just playing a game and then going back for what I refer to as "wrap up" trophies or chieves
If Monolith soft ever makes a xenoblade shorter than 100 hours I will feel betrayed. Longer games are worth the money spent on them, you want shorter stories? go watch a movie.

The Sony Rewards used to be linked to trophies. So any time you got a trophy, you can points towards the Sony Rewards. But after Stars was announced, they took trophies away. As someone who doesn't but a lot of Sony electronics or products, my punta stopped, and I stopped using the Rewards program.
So there's the rub. Once points went away, I believe people stopped using the Sony Rewards program as well. Which, in turn, gets it shut down.

Captain America Civil War was in my opinion the best cap movie.
The high cost and long development time are project management issues, which should be fixed by the game developer, not the gamers. So what Sony said is irrational and not acceptable.
They should found other ways to fix them, instead of reduce the game quality but charge the gamers more.

My PS4 plays single player games well, but I find myself losing to PS5 players in multiplayer games.
I find my PS5 plays single player games great. And I don't play any sort of online multiplayer or games-as-a-DISservice GARBAGE. So not missing or losing there.
I tried a PS4 controller on a PS3 online game = it was better then ps3's controller.
If the gameplay is fun and good we dont mind the 100+ hrs to complete. Some games we expect that. FINAL FANTASY/ ELDEN RING, etc.... but we dont need a 80+ hr Crash Bandicoot game. We are also running out of originality in games and design. I'm not sure if I like these big developers/ production studios buying smaller developers/studios. It turns into let's please the investors and not the gamers who pay our bills and checks.

Platinum trophies are probably the only trophy that Sony fans never bother accomplishing, it's just way too hard to get every trophy just for platinum. Beating the most difficult hard mode in a video game is impossible without cheat codes like GameShark or GameGenie. Silver and gold are easy to accomplish, and the only people who have platinum trophies are the jailbroken PS3 and PS4 hackers. They unlock all the trophies on their gaming console with a hack and upgrade their console, so it looks like they actually earned all those platinums.

This was the way of Nintendo , and to this day , it still is ... when Sony with its PlayStation division that was located in Japan (when it was SCEI) understood that ... when they moved theirs headquarters to California and closed all of its Japan Studios ... they forgot about , gamers do not need Photorealism , they only need Uniqueness .Deliver that with games you can only get on a set console ... your set ... then pushing the bounds of realism, making games cost $250mln so they have to use ESG\DEI money to push agendas to bounce back from the bottom line to not be in red... with doing crazy amounts of product placements

I think the game needs to be long to be worth the price . I want content and les micro transaction.
I like long ass games (that make sense, not ac valhalla style) for example, I've spent WAY TOO MUCH TIME in Elden Ring, and I'm doing the same in its DLC, games like that, yeah, I'm totally down, in fact, these days I only trust FromSoftware with my life and noone else. Other crappy companies (EA, ubisoft, etc) would have probably charged $70 for a main game with HALF (or less than half) of the content that the Elden Ring DLC has. Also, I play single players only, I'm not into the multiplayer/live service thing so, the less of those that exist, the better.

First time put on will make you feel like your really in the game. Shit is wild but I couldn't see myself with all that on for more than an hour or 2 so I gave it to my nephew

Maybe I'm in the minority but I don't want to play a movie. I wanna play a video game. Cinematic style games really don't do much for me.
I remember when the NBA 2K series used to not be cinematic at all and then when I tried 2K22 I just felt like everything dragged out for me. I’m more old school to where I just want to play the game and that’s it. I understand adding more realistic elements but it gets to a point where enough is enough.
