@@MyNameDolanyeah he’s the only one I’m getting my gaming news from nowadays. Most TH-camrs are becoming obnoxious in their takes aimed on triggering emotional reactions to “drive engagement”.
I just don't understand why Sony would spend so much money developing such a great piece of hardware and yet not learn their lesson from PSVR1 and not have any tentpole games for it.
It has tentpole games. Just not many people know about them sadly. Gt7, resident evil 4 and 8, horizon, synapse, red matter 1 and 2 and more. There is also aliens VR and behemoth coming out later this year.
@joefawley9264 The only real game I'd consider tentpole would be horizon and maybe GT7. I would imagine Sony had to know they would need REALLY compelling software to get more casual gamers to purchase a $500 accessory. I would've also thought they would've learned this lesson already with PSVR1.
@@phillippinoFLASH but the other problem is, we don't even know what tentpole games Sony has for us for the PS5 let alone VR. Personally, I thought behemoth was the best game shown at the state of play.
@@phillippinoFLASH realistically, I'm not sure what game other than Gran Theft Auto would help move more units. We had Skyrim, an exclusive Ironman game and others on psvr1 and I'm not sure it helped much.
There are a bunch of great games, and the games frequently go on sale for dirt cheap. Honestly I'd say its still worth picking up a PSVR 1 if you can find a cheap used one.
Contrarily I’m so, so glad to be rid of the move wands and wonky tracked DS4. Do I wish Squadrons, Skyrim, and Hitman were on PSVR2? Sure! But I’m more than happy that I’ve got GT7, proper NMS, and RE8/4 instead. The games will come - end of this year alone will be insane.
I dont understand why you not jealous of psvr2 owner i never replay my psvr1 .there have no game on it can be played whit real controller. still need joystick on psvr1 . The poeple who like re game enjoy psvr2 like never . That take some time to enjoy the vr mechanic but always be better every day i play
Thank you, Ryan, for your integrity on NOT speaking about every rumor and "leak" and including it into NEWS!! I wished other "content creators" had that sense of responsibility.
@@terminusaquo1980 There's really not. The only other alternative out there is the Quest 3, which has slightly better specs and its own library of games. Remains to be seen how well the adapter performs. Other than that? There's the Valve Index, which has WAY worse screens and costs as much as a PS5 + PSVR2 and uses outside tracking, so you need to set up the trackers somewhere around your house. Anything from HTC has similar problems. And that's basically it, unless you're willing to spend thousands of dollars for the headset.
@@terminusaquo1980 They have better options like pairing the Quest 3 to a PC. The only two advantages the PSVR2 has over Q3 'when' paired with a PC are it's deeper blacks & richer vibrant colours. PSVR2 to pc connectivity strips down so much of the PSVR2's features.
@@nirast2561 Slightly better specs? I have both Q3 & PSVR2, and the formers sweet spot is FAR wider, Pancake clarity is clearer/sharper, it's a lot more comfortable, it's wireless, has zero motion blur(PSVR2 uses a high persistence blur OLED display...), there's no mura or god rays, minimal glare, ring-less controllers, mixed reality, colour pass through, built in audio speakers, it's super slim and sleek, and it has an amazing eco system, store front, that goes beyond just VR gaming. The Quest 3 + PC feels like it's 1-2 generations ahead of the PSVR2. The latter is a bulky cumbersome mess that feels like you're wearing a medieval torture device. I loved Resident Evil 8 VIllage VR, and the first half of RE4 VR, but 8 has already been modded for PC VR, and I'm sure the latter will get the same treatment. On the flip side, PSVR2 has deeper blacks & richer/vibrant colours, but all of it's other features including haptics, head haptics, adaptive triggers, along with eye tracking & FR have all been disabed on PC.
@@nirast2561 Honestly the quest 2 and 3 are the only options PC currently needs. The quest 2 still holds up especially for the price and the quest 3 does everything the psvr2 does but better and still cheaper. Both are also wireless.
At least show a little more respect to all the people who bought it by doing that. I have a psvr2 and would love to play Astro rescue mission but can’t.
@@SweetKingTanner Because Astro Rescue Mission was designed for PSVR. Not PSVR2 and just because you bought it for PSVR doesn't mean they need to spend money to support PSVR2.
That ain’t the issue at all. VR community ain’t even huge. Every company doing VR came into the space way too early, VR won’t truly take off till the next 100 years. We live in a world where we have VR headsets before flying cars and Detroit become human androids
And the report has an ad for Quest 3 at its end. It suggests that Quest 3's 2 true exclusives, and suggests a bunch of multi-plats also available, or coming to PSVR2 (and arguably superior PSVR2 versions at that). This "PSVR2 is dead" rhetoric needs to go away.
Sony dropping the price $200 is confirmation that they're blowing out their inventory and are abandoning the platform. Sony are tightwads. They'd never give such a huge discount for any other reason.
Look at Nintendo, they have successful characters/mascots like Mario & Zelda that always come to the next gen systems and people want to play the new experiences. Sony made a mistake not bringing their mascots to VR2. Astro, Sackboy, Kratos, Nathan Drake etc could have come, even in shorter experiences and PS5 owners might have bought into it.
I guarantee you that those games wouldn't meet sales expectations. A PS5 is already expensive, and you have a growing number of people saying that they aren't ever buying a PS5 because of low number of games/they just don't like Sony/they are cheap. You really want to compound all of these problems by locking games behind a $500 accessory? It's just not smart.
We did get that, it's called horizon: call of the mountain. You know, the IP that guerilla games is currently focusing on and making. Those ip's you mentioned are dead & have been for a long time. We got those spinoffs on the vita. Go play the vita.
I am much more of an XBOX platform guy (game pass ultimate, blah blah) but dang I would put you S tier with just responsible and nice game people whatever in the industry. Thank you for doing what you do
First of all, I absolutely HATE IT when people have to tell people how they should react. Any jackhole that puts "you" and "should" in their titles in any order there are never to be worth a read at all. Same goes to everyone on TH-cam that does this with their video titles. Second, it really is unfortunate that such a impressive headset is basically going the way of the Vita with how much Sony is basically giving up on the thing. I mean it was too be expected with how expensive it is compared to its predecessor but at the same time it is something that should've been seen coming by Sony themselves.
Yeah, when you launch hardware that's more expensive than a console with almost no marketing and no clear commitment to supporting it long-term, you really can't be surprised if people don't rush to pick it up. It's such a shame. The really unfortunate thing is, if you look back at the Vita now, it was actually fairly well supported. Sony kept manufacturing it for 9 years, and published/developed over 30 games for it, including major franchises like God of War, Uncharted, Killzone, Resistance, Wipeout, Jak and Daxter, Ratchet and Clank, and Little Big Planet. If PSVR 2 had a third of that support, Sony would've sold millions more of them guaranteed.
@@GreyMatterShadesPS VR2 already have 1/3 of that support in only 1.5 year if you count 2nd party titles such as Resident Evil 8-4 directly funded by Sony
To be fair, some of the better PSVR1 games came from 3rd parties anyway, so Sony abandoning production isn't quite the death knell it would immediately suggest. Sony dropped the Vita early too, and the third party publishers kept that thing going until like 2 years ago.
3rd party devs did NOT “keep the Vita going until like 2 years ago.” That’s like saying indie devs are keeping the Dreamcast going because they’re still releasing games for it.
@@markus8994 Give or take a year changes nothing… You have absolutely lost your marbles if you think the VITA was simply trucking right along up until 2021.
PSVR2 is AWESOME! Me and my brother got one at launch and we still hop in at least once a week, (less in hot weather) with Walkabout or the latest new co-op VR game. I totally agree with Mystic. The media loves to rag on VR2 but the reason VR2 isn't selling gangbusters is less to do with PlayStation and more to do with VR. Sure, things do limit it. Wite etc. For one. Meta has 7 billion potential users compared to PS5's 60m. That and, well. It's a PHYSICAL activity. Very tiring. Kids love VR. Adults? After work? Oof. That, admittedly, is an event sorta thing. Like a launch of a new single player game on a free weekend. I love a good single player campaign VR (Horizon, Saints & Sinners, Sybapse) or a drop in drop out (Beat Saner, Demeo, Creed, Pavlov) but it will NEVER replace a couch and a controller with no exhaustion or slight dizziness. That doesn't mean its not FUN or worthwhile. I think Sony and 3rd parties will absolutely support this next gen piece of VR kit. The tech is top of class and far cheaper for PS5 OWNERS then a PC where often a similar spec like Index is $1000+ and requires separate purchase for controllers etc. Quest 3 is a fierce competitor with its price point and its aggressive 3rd party exclusives/times deals. But that's just that. Metas doesn't have first party. Neither does Valve. Half Life in 2019. Asgard Wrath in 2023. In 5 years between them, two real VR games made by them. Meanwhile, Sony first year has GT, Horizon and Firewall. This does matter. Sony are supporting it, Synapse and Resident Evil or No Man Sky are not charities. Sony funded those too. So, I think Sony should keep supporting then as they do any other 3rd party. There are big next gen games coming. Behemoth, Metro etc. Just keep supporting partner studios and get them their sales. I don't want first larty studios to do VR games, focus on the main course. Great PS5 exclusives. I can't have Naughty Dog waste time on VR. I'd rather a VR mode, of course but look. You can get those, for FREE on PC and newsflash. They don't move the needle or sell VR units for PC VR. In fact, Batman VR and Assassin Creed Nexus ALSO do not move Queat units, Ubisoft was disappointed in their sales. It simply isn't a solve all for First Party VR games to magically fix everything. Such an unrealistic & misguided expectation. Consumers don't even know the difference between first party. Yet, Media do slant against Sony & towards Meta who does the same stuff essentially. You cannot convince me there isn't a negative slant for PSVR and its certainly unbalanced. That all said, It don't matter. PSVR2 isn't going anywhere. VR2 games will continue to come to PSN. There are games Sony has funded in the Hero Projects that are VR. Third parties have found success like Skydance, Mass, Beat Saver etc. So, indies have a platform to make money. It can do fine for the creative value add it is off of passion. Its also future proofed. USB C, so PS6 and beyond will no doubt support the library built today on PSN with PS5. No doubt. It may not be where Sony hoped but VR is and in my mind always will bee a niche because of the universal barriers. Its fun and a novelty, like any flat game genre. Like graphic novels, or horror games or Asymmetrical multilayer. VR slides in there. I look forward to holding into VR and I' gladnI don't need a 0C to get VR games. As a PS5bowner, its awesome. And the tech and features, when used by devs, are fantastic. Saints and Sinners looks & runs better then PC counterpart because of the smart tech of Fov rendering. So, to end my rant. VR2 is awesome, go play it. Get acclimated and have fun with it. As for Sony, stop with these expectations for VR. Just enjoy it for what it is and be realistic. Plenty coming to VR2 to look forwards too. Just its always going to be a bonus add on peripheral. If 5m is enough for VR1 for Sony to see success and take their 30% off all software. I've no doubt VR2 will get their some day. Especially given PC compatibility now and the eventually price cuts. So, yeah. Just enjoy it and of its not for you, move on. Its a great piece of kit. Thats all it ever needed to be.
Hate to burst your bubble but meta/oculus have a lot more games that Asgards wrath 2. There are loads of games under the “Oculus studios” umbrella, and most of them are the best games you will find in VR to this day. Just to be clear I’m talking about PCVR, games like Asgards wrath 1, Stormland, lone echo 1 and 2, phantom covert ops, journey of gods, and many more if you just look at oculus originals on their store. Yes a lot of these games are developed by third party studios (3 of them PS/ex-PS Studios). Stormland is insomniac, lone echo is ready at dawn who made the order 1886 and Asgards wrath are sanzaru who made some sly cooper games and some others. But they are still exclusive to the oculus/meta ecosystem to this day. If you buy a quest and have a good pc you get 3 big VR libraries (quest standalone, oculus PC and steam) with the one headset, and the ability to play wireless. As I always have to say when I’m compelled to comment on these things, I AM NOT A FANBOY. I play where I get the best experience, and 9/10 times that’s on PC, no argument. I do have PSVR2 and have put some serious hours into the resident evil games, waking dead, gran turismo, finished horizon and generally enjoyed everything I’ve played on it. I just want all gaming to be enjoyable, smooth and successful. All VR is important to me because all the platforms provide this to me.
how many games you need to sell to recoup 2-300$ loss on a single headset? especially when the average consumer buys only a couple of games........... VR in general is an unsustainable platform. be glad you can get into it thanks to sony, valve and meta.
Sony should offer incentives for companies to add VR to current or future games , give us resident evil 2 and 3 VR modes, launch resident evil 9 with VR etc no need for new VR only titles let us dive into games we have played and love and that would satisfy me with my purchase of it. Resident evil 7 was VR and used the game controller that would be fine with me. So playing VR with using regular controllers would be better than nothing.
The PSVR2 is great tech, but at $599 it’s too expensive. If it were backwards compatible it would be an easier sell, or if it were half the price it would be a lot more popular. Gran Turismo, Resident Evil, and hidden gems aren’t enough for it to compete effectively against Meta Quest.
I LOVE MY VR2 is amazing and the hardware is just minblowing, dont take this kind of things very sirious if you are about to buy one, you will not regret it
People who love VR really love it, but they represent such a small percentage of gamers it's not overly profitable especially in the case of PSVR2 where there are relatively few games.
@@TheBigTone100if this person is having a blast with their PSVR, then it’s definitely not a lost cause. If it keeps them playing for years to come, then it’s worth it (it’s not valuable to everyone though)
Silliest argument ever. Price of one device≠the other. It is a high end VR headset. It is incredibly cheap for its features. One day you might find out...😊it's amazing!
@@TheVRResistanceStop being a fan boy. Psvr2 literally can not be used without a ps5 (already expensive), still can't be used on pc, and can't even run psvr1 games. Nobody with a functioning brain would think that's a good product to invest in.
@@TheVRResistance The average consumer cannot afford to buy a ps5+vr headset in the economic climate that we have today, and to even want to be motivated to spend such a large amount, you then first want to try the tech. Something that is very difficult to be able to do as few people have these VR glasses and in many countries game shops have closed down.
The bit they ray should have taken advantage of was hybrid. Because the vr, while a great value with the tech, games cost money on top of that. And if the game only works on vr, people are less willing to spend. But if you can, say for example, play vr for a game your already own, people would be more willing to get the headset. That’s why GT7, RE8, RE4R are great vr titles for people unsure about VR, because not only are they great AAA games, but pretty much have the full game playable in vr. Imagine Spider-Man had VR. Didn’t have to be the full game, but being able to swing and glide in the sandbox would be amazing. We’ve seen it done before. So just imagine a AAA budget.
spider2vr had to be the full game. psvr1 had lots of "experiences", nobody cared. we need AAA games' VR versions, nothing less. and that is what sony promised, yet could not deliver. (why no F1 2023 VR? WRC? etc....)
Just picked up a set after the most recent price cut. At this point, I’m going in not expecting much first party support from Sony, which is fine since PC support is getting added anyway.
I got PSVR1 around 2018 and was blown away by Astrobot Rescue Mission, VR Worlds, Farpoint etc so was always going to buy into PSVR2 from Day 1. I was disappointed it was wired but understood the decision to get higher graphical quality and frame rates compared to mobile headsets like the Quest. BUT I feel since the Quest 3 launch the VR2 seems like a generation behind with the old frennel lenses and ringed controllers, its more like Quest 2 and the lack of mixed reality opportunities since its B&W cameras holds it back. It could have been much better, Firewall Ultra could have come to ps+ on day 1. A deal for HL Alyx could have been done and more hybrids and big PSVR1 ports announced but no sony are chasing the dollar instead of being inventive and keeping the fans happy.
I bought my psvr2 after i bought my quest 3 and the quest 3 is just better. But I want to play games on my PlayStation. So hopefully the 3rd party games keep coming..
@@SweetKingTanner I agree Quest 3 is better in some ways but the power of PS5 and the exclusives like GT7, Horizon etc means it can do better looking VR games imo. I use quest 3 more as it's just easier to stick on anywhere and have a quick blast on a casual game but it's the multimedia side I mainly use it for. I like apps such as TH-cam VR, BigScreen & Horizon Worlds which are apps we are unlikely to see on PSVR2 but for a more PC VR experience Sony tends to be better. It just does games really well. It's a shame we aren't getting more AAA bangers, hybrids and PSVR ports but it's still early days so who knows
Sony was quite consumer friendly. The PS1 was $299 when the Saturn was $399. PS1 games were $40 when N64 games were $50. The PS2 was backward compatible & could play DVDs. The PS3 had backward compatibility too (slim versions lost PS2 chip to reduce the price). The PS3 had free online play, when Xbox charged. The PS3 had Blu-Ray & standard wireless controllers which made it cost more, which hurt it. More recently, Sony has been less consumer friendly, but it wasn’t always like that.
@@jeremyf9124 maybe that's when they were trying to dominate the market. Now they are dominating (selling more consoles then anyone else and getting consistently good reviews on AAA titles) they are the most expensive for online and games. Shame 😔I didn't mind the cost of the PSVR2 at launch. It will come down in time but it maybe too late now.
I bought a PS VR 2 thanks to the Days of Play Discount. This technology is AMAZING! And I’m 1000% happy with purchase because I found the SON of the ARCADE game I loved as a kid and the WII motion controls. Yet I totally see the issues despite the 10/10 experience I’m sensing. 1) People are “slow”. The gameplay of VR can far surpass the power of the controller on some cases. However while I turned into DMC Dante in the RE games by dual wielding. Giving the controllers to IRL friends leads to memes 9/10 times. 2) Business. I only bought it cause it was SLIGHTLY cheaper than the PS5 because of the discount. And even saying that is wrong ish cause I’m using the high price I bought the ps5 at retail during the “drought”. Now with accesible PS5 + slim models the price of the console has decreased. You don’t need an economics degree to come to the conclusion that an accessory that’s more expensive that the main product will very likely NOT BE A SUCCESS. 3) VR problem. While the technology is amazing. Again, it’s greatness that’s not for everyone. People have literal biological issues that won’t allow them to use the VR or at least limit the play session. 4) And part of 1 and 3. Putting this on needs “brains”. You need to find the sweet spot. This technology seems like it’s made out of glass to an extend. Sure I don’t I don’t want to drop it on the ground hard. But I have to be careful with where I leave it. Even more than my still functional PS2 and 3 consoles. Also be sweet spot, I also mean while using it. Because if you don’t take care of it. The glass will be foggy and you can only do so much cleaning. And you need to be smart adjusting the headset. 5) No backward compatibility. This kills me because I can’t play Re7 VR. And for other people this means no Skyrim VR. Along so many other games of that library like Rush of Blood and Astro Bot Rescue Mission. This is a deal breaker. It was the reason I didn’t buy VR 2 at release. Sure I didn’t buy VR1 but the library was there and it was interesting. And I have to say of going back to that gen now. 6) Is this technology exclusively nitch. I said I’m satisfied. But only because RE, Gran Turismo 7 and No Man’s Sky are games with infinite replay ability. Is nitch stuff like people who actually buy FNAF games and other small indie project the only thing that will fill up the future PS Vita style? 7) Thanks for reading, you amazing viewer!
Well said. I was tempted by the Days of Play sale, but I'm waiting for holidays to see how some of the bigger PSVR 2 games due later this year turn out (like Behemoth, Arken Age, Metro Awakening VR, Alien Rogue Incursion, Wanderer: Fragments of Fate, Metal Hellsinger, etc.) On point 3, most people can play VR, they just can't jump right into intense games with free or fast movement like the RE games or GT7. There are some awesome starter games, most of which can be comfortably played seated, where you don't really move. The Moss games are fantastic for this, for example. Very beginner friendly. PSVR 2 (and all VR headsets for that matter) really needs some amazing onboarding software that shows first-time users some of the benefits of VR (amazing sense of depth/scale, tactile interactions with the world, etc.) and gently guides them through experiences to see what they can handle, then recommends full games they could comfortably play. This would help a lot. And on point 5, yeah... you have no idea how many awesome games there are on PSVR 1. I've played around 70 and I'd rank probably 2/3 of the ones I've played from good to amazing, and I haven't even gotten to all the best ones yet. There are honestly enough that I still recommend people pick up a PSVR 1 if they can find a cheap used one. It's practically criminal that so many awesome VR games are stuck on dead hardware. And for point 6, unfortunately VR is basically being propped up by indie studios right now. There just isn't a big enough install base for big companies to make triple-A games for it. The only exceptions are when VR platform holders spend a ton on VR games or ports to try to sell hardware (like Meta with Asgard's Wrath 2, Sony with Horizon and GT7 and paying Capcom to make the RE ports, and Valve with Half Life Alyx). The good news is that there are already some great indie VR games (if you like horror, you need to get Madison VR on PSVR 2, and maybe Propagation Paradise Hotel but it's short), with more to come. All of the upcoming games I mentioned at the beginning are made by indie VR studios (even the big IPs), and they look like they could be awesome. I do hope Sony keeps paying to bring big flat games to VR though. Ace Combat 8 would be incredible in VR. 7 had 3 VR levels on PSVR 1 and it was insane. If you're looking for more good PSVR 2 games, check out the youtube channel Without Parole (formerly PSVR2 Without Parole). They recently did a list of the top 25 games for it (and a 3+ hour podcast where they debated and formed the list which would be full of honourable mentions). Worth taking a look. Hope you keep enjoying VR! 👍
I wanted to buy one but I needed to be sure Sony would invest in games because that is why I have a PS, for the PS games. I would love is all of their games would be a hybrid game, if PS4 games like Killzone would get PSVR2 versions (all to save on development costs) but they didn't. So like PSP and Vita an amazing piece of expensive hardware is left in the dust.
I got a TON of free PSVR1 games through PS Plus over the years. This has not been the case with PSVR2! Then Sony released the PS5 and made the PSVR1 compatible with it - but no new games. Then the PSVR2 comes out - but won't play PSVR1 games. I don't understand their way of thinking!
OMG!!! That would be amaaaaaaaaaazing!!!!! Hell yeah!! We like sooooo need a new Getaway game on the PS5!!! I would even settle for a remastered Getaway game on the PS5 haha, tbh I don’t think it’s a series that will ever be bought back in any shape or form but would love it if they did though! It would also be something fresh and different to what you usually get on the market nowadays, I would love to see a game come out set in the Vietnam war, not just a couple of levels like COD Cold War although like loved those levels and they like reminded me what I’ve missed haha, back in the sixth and early seventh generation Vietnam war games were quite popular, my dad loved Conflict Vietnam, he clocked it on the PS2, I’ve just missed those games haha, maybe Activision should make a COD game set entirely in the Vietnam war? Vietnam war games are like soooo fun and would again be something fresh and different to what you see in the market at the moment, I feel like maybe game developers might think that war is politically incorrect but come ooooooon! We like sooo need one haha xxxxxx
My opinion: I love VR and have owned both of PlayStation’s iterations. I’ve played multiple games on both platforms and frankly loved them all. But the problem I see between 2D and 3D gaming is that the VR experience is isolating. I feel too detached from the real world or overly immersed in the game’s world. That said, Before Your Eyes is a masterpiece and I haven’t cried that much in a long time.
Personally I want that level of immersion. That's why I can't really be bothered with flat gaming much since I got into VR. But I can understand how it'd be a detractor for people with families or partners who they like to share their gaming with. Also as much as VR is isolating from your physical surroundings, multiplayer VR is more engaging, expressive, and personal experience than flat MP is. So VR is worse for in-person socialization but better for online socialization.
@@GreyMatterShades That’s the truth. I’m a family man that likes to share my gaming like you said. And when I got my PSVR, I told my wife that if they had this stuff when I was a kid, I would be a VR gamer today. But now that I’m a young father, having a headset on for hours and “away” from my family is a problem for me. I guess I’m really complaining here by saying that I wish I could game more on VR. I love VR and hope that it is here to stay.
Psvr2 is so good. I cant believe they put so much time and money into it just to abandon it after launch. I guess it will forever just be my grand turismo machine.
They did not abandoned it. Synapse, RE4&8, Horizon, Switchback and the best versions of bangers like Saints & Sinners 1+2, Hubris, Song in the Smoke, Legendary Tales, Madison, Hellsweeper, No Man's Sky. There is so much in the first year alone. I would argue there are at least 40 good to great PSVR2 Games right now.

@@PSYCHOV3N0M im not saying the games should be exclusive, im saying those games are all games that can be played elsewhere because theyre old games. The psvr2 got almost no new content and we have barely even gotten to use all the features the headset has. And then on top of that, their pc adapter isnt going to allow all the features either.
PSVR2, for me, is the best console experience, experience, gotta say it again, experience. Sony didn't give PSVR1/2 the best effort. Not surprised it is not doin all that well.
I greatly enjoy both the psvr1 and psvr2. The aim controller on the psvr1 was peak for fps. While I like the pass through fearure on the psvr2 I wish it could incorporate the external camera for greater accuracy. The main advantage of vr fps is that your cross hair isn't center of screen you dont have to be looking where your shooting. In psvr1, I can unload on enemies coming through a door and check my 6. In psvr2 if your controller isn't in your front facing arc, it isnt picked up by the internal cameras and accuracy is lost.
Yep I have had extra £530 (price of psvr2) but spend it on Xbox series X and I’m enjoying Halo, Gears of war, Forza horizon/motorsport, plus my 360 digital library via backwards compatibility etc
I just bought a PS VR2 and damn do I love it! I feel like there are so many games to play especially when I have a massive back log already on normal games! Don’t regret buying! Great video dude!
History repeats itself. Everything happening with the PSVR2 is everything that happened to the PS VITA. Superior next gen hardware that gets no support, not enough collaboration, not enough marketing.
Pretty funny the best game on PSVR2 could be GT7/RE2R which can be classified as a Flat2VR conversion, its pretty weak of them to not do more of these to add value when its right in their faces
Getting a ps vr2 in a few weeks. Pretty much just getting it for GT7 which looks like the only killer app but also looks soo good! On the plus side the pc compatibility with also means it works with racing games with steam vr! Also buying it used for $300-$400 which I think is a way better price point!
It’s cuz it’s still feels clunky on the head and setting everything up takes a minutes. Clear the room, make sure controllers are charged, fit the headset and headphones perfectly. Then the vr sickness kicks in after about an hour.
Speak for yourself bro. Takes me literally seconds to wipe off the lenses and go. Fitting the headset is effortless. I've used it so much it's muscle memory at this point. If making sure your controllers are charged and picking your sh*t up off the floor is too much effort for you, maybe you're just lazy.
As an owner of Quest 2, Quest 3 & PSVR 2, I really hope Sony does not leave the VR space. The games look, play & feel so much better on my PSVR2. I’m really curious to know what those two new games are.
I was PSVR1 buyer day 1....when I pre-ordered PSVR2, and canceled my pre-order it was because of the price tag. After headset, charging stand, & like 2 - 3 games. It was gonna cost me like almost $700. 2 of my other friends that were hyped didn't get it either, because of price, cord, & backwards compatibility. So, just in my tiny circle. That's 3 users that didn't buy in due to those things you listed as not real reasons. I do agree VR is the main reason though, but they compounded the failure with the price / lack of features / games.
I love the PSVR2 headset but the lack of backwards compatibility with PSVR1 and. 549 price tag is what not allowed it take off. It reminds of a good but not great PCVR headset like the Oculus Rift S. If it was priced at 399.00 like the Rift S then I believed it would have had a chance even without backwards compatibility support. I don’t regret my purchase but I also have a gaming PC so it will live on and be used for PCVR gaming alongside my PS5 VR gaming with games I own. They had a killer app with HZD Call of the Mountain as that game is gorgeous in PSVR headset and rivals Half Life Alyx in visual fidelity and gameplay but less physical interaction with environment but still enough to wow people that tried it at my home
The Vita actually had way better first-party support. Sony developed/published over 30 games for it, including games in huge franchises like Uncharted, God of War, Killzone, Resistance, Wipeout, Jak and Daxter, Ratchet and Clank, Sly Cooper, and Little Big Planet. So far PSVR 2 has 2 games from Sony IP, one of which is just a mode added to an existing game. Both were launch titles, and Sony has said nothing about future support since. At this rate, PSVR 2 would be extremely lucky to finish its lifespan with a third of the first-party support the Vita had. It probably won't get 1/6th. I think you have every right to be mad at Sony. That said, there are great third-party games on PSVR 2, with more to come. Hopefully you can find enough to make your purchase worthwhile. It could've been so much better though 😢
The sales for Quest 3 individually from Quest 2 will be the stat to watch in terms of determining if this really is just a VR problem in general. Quest 2 did extremely well for VR but it released at the height of COVID very cheap with a lot of software support, but didn’t have the best software attach rate similar to Wii, Quest 3 could be their Wii U. Quest 3 is a lot more expensive and the potential market interested/curious may already be satisfied with their fitness games on Quest 2. If Quest 3 sells another 20 million though thanks to games like Batman, than it’s a Sony problem.
I LOVE my PSVR2. Play Demeo if you haven't. However, unfortunately, it's almost intolerable for me to wear it for more than an hour. And, that's not specific to the PSVR2, it's simply a "VR" problem. So, I think your conclusions at the end are consistent with my own opinions/experience.
@@bobtom1495 The Vita launched at the worst time with the 3DS being out and it had the issue of the memory cards being really expensive with little to no storage
If Sony had prioritized and released Astrobot Rescue Mission 2 at or close to PSVR2 launch, paid Valve for a HL Alyx port, and ported its own PSVR1 first party games, we wouldn’t be having this conversation today.
No backwards compatibility, high price, not enough game investment, and not PC compatible. This thing was doomed to fail, and I say this as someone who really enjoys the original PSVR. they didn't even try to make this thing successful, it unfortunately feels like just a cash grab. So disappointing
The main thing is not game support from Sony. They could have made some of their AAA games VR compatible, even without a full support for the VR controller. Kind of like the Resident Evil games that have VR support.
@@valrond The Resident Evil games on PSVR 2 (Village and 4 Remake) have full motion control support. In fact that's the only way you can play them in VR. Only RE7 on PSVR1 used a gamepad. Also worth noting that Sony paid Capcom to port the RE games to VR. But I agree, Sony should've ported more of their games to PSVR 2. Even PS4 games like Killzone Shadowfall or The Order 1886 would have been awesome in VR.
The argument of Astrobot not being build from the ground up doesn't hold up indeed, for several reasons. Two reasons why older games generally don't work well in VR is because the games were made/modelled in different scale than what would feel real in VR. As they did that to fake certain effects, like making a stage look bigger than they really were. So what one only has to do to have it be a hybrid game, is to make sure everything is made to scale. And I don't think Asobi would've approached this game differently than AstroBot on PSVR1. Except for the tracking of the controller, there is nothing extra in the original AstroBot game that it wouldn't work as a flat game. The headset was basically a free-look camera. Hybrid games were a issue in the past, because you had to sacrifice nifty effects and resolution, as you had to maintain a high framerate and had to render the image twice. But with the combination of diminishing returns for effects and resolution, with the addition of foveated rendering, that has become a moo-point too. In my spare time, I'm working on a game that is both flat and VR (okay, the genre I'm working on is a bit more straightforward and obvious to get both). And I'm a layman in game-development. So really, these days there is no excuse anymore to say developing a game for both flat and VR is extra work. Because there isn't. It's the same amount of work as if you would choose to go for adding even more particle effects, raytracing, even higher resolution. It's not about can't, but just a case of wanting to. You can argue that VR is niche, but so is life-like graphics and effects. Except for the "look how far we can go" people, I think most people are happy to stay with (stylized) graphics were you still feel that it's a game and not a movie. And wasn't it Sony themselves that claimed to be going for every game to be hybrid, going on forward? I'm still waiting on current gen, because for me it was and still is too expensive. I like VR, but I have been holding of, because somehow I had a feeling Sony would veer away from it. The gaming industry has become very 'cocky' and think we just buy everything they present us. That's partially because of social media en 'influencers', and just dumb people who are easily influenced (which are a lot). I miss the good ol' days of gaming, where gaming was about gaming for gamers. But that's the problem when something gets picked up by the majority. It loses its charm.
Totally agree about Astro Bot. PC VR mods of games like Sackboy's Big Adventure, Crash Bandicoot 4, and the Spyro remake all prove platformers work amazingly well with basic VR ports (your head as a free-look camera). The only issue is that some environments are only modeled where the camera is looking, so in a game like Sackboy, if you turn your head way to the left or right, you'll see the level geometry just abruptly end on some levels. That sort of issue can be easily fixed by just having a fog effect to blend the edge of the level into the background. As for Sony's hybrid claims, this has been dramatically misconstrued almost everywhere. Sony never officially talked to the public about hybrid games at all. What happened was Bryan from the TH-cam channel PSVR Without Parole (now just Without Parole, though he still focuses on PSVR 2), managed to get access to a private online developer briefing/seminar that Sony was running for studios who were interested in PSVR 2. From this he found out the specs of the headset (around 8 months before they were announced) and that Sony was talking about the benefits of making hybrid VR games. He leaked both points. Bryan never said Sony was planning to make all of their games hybrid, and nobody from Sony had ever even used the term "Hybrid" publicly until Nicolas Doucet from Team Asobi used it to claim it only works for first-person and racing games to justify why Astro Bot doesn't have VR support. Basically everyone read too much into it and got their hopes way up. I don't blame people, as hybrid games could be super important for the future of VR. Still, if Sony paid any attention to public discourse, they could have made some public statements to manage people's expectations. But that would require a shred of effort, which is apparently too much. I also haven't bought a PSVR 2 yet, though I do plan to. For me it was a little bit about price, but more the lack of backward compatibility (I've got 100+ PSVR 1 games), and even before launch Sony was being cagey about their future plans to support PSVR 2. I think Sony has become too accustom to gamers scrambling to buy whatever they put out, even with little to no marketing effort. They've forgotten how to advertise hardware when consumers need convincing.
How Sony didn't realise that the price of PSVR2 meant it was DOA is quite unfathomable, pricing it like they did obviously meant it was going to be a complete sales flop.
Agree with your pricing take especially in current climate, they should have made it PC compatible from day one as well, larger audience and better value if you own PC and ps5
ABSOLUTELY! The only price that would make sense is half of whatever the main console is worth. If that's too low, then maybe 70% of what the console is worth. The fact that you have to pay MORE for PSVR2 than a PS5 is abysmal. The average consumer cannot justify a purchase like that.
I think you're right on everything you said. So good to see someone talking about PSVR 2 with the right mindset as you do. I'm a big fan of this headset, I enjoy it everyday, there are so many amazing games, plus we'll have PC compatibility soon, but I recognize it's not looking good in general. To me, I never though about getting fisrt party games on it, I just want it to keep up with these amazing third party games, like Hubris, TWD, Red matter, Vampire TMJ.... and the list goes forever. Plus the entire Steam VR library, plus MODs. There's no better time to be a VR gamer.
Ryan, you are one of the few people on this platform that do not oversimplify or dramatise when covering video games industry. Love your straight and non-entitled approach to covering these stories, keep it up!
I knew Sony would give up on ps vr2 just like the vita there will never be a 3rd wireless headset. No roadmap and no psvr1 remakes spelt the end for this headset. 2023 to 2024 psvr2 rip.
Great point on exclusivity not being sustainable or needed in VR, since VR headsets in their own right are already a pretty niche tech space. It's usually a high-priced device, and on PC would require high-end PCs to run the best of games.
Ryan, I love how genuine you are. Yes you are a PS channel but you're not afraid to say when things are bad or Sony is being a bit scammy. Honestly, man, you're the most true and humble channel out there. In a world of fake reviews and pandering, you're so true to your audience and your opinions, and to me, at least, that's straight up 100 respect 🙏
It’s a shame Sony didn’t learn anything from the Vita. It’s even more baffling considering the blueprint for the perfect VR ecosystem already exists (Oculus quest 2) and all they had to do was Playstation-ify it. Had the PSVR been standalone and had a lower price of entry, it would have been a huge success. Trying to convince people to spend 500 on a PS5, then 600 on a VR headset and removing backwards compatibility with PSVR1 games is some Sega 32x levels of shenanigans.
No. That would be doing what Pico has done. It wouldn't work, just buy Quest 3. PSVR2 games look a lot better. The problem is that Sony makes no games for the PSVR2, nothing that would make people buy it.
I don't think it's a learning issue and to me it's not baffling. It's a question of limited studio resources. Sony currently needs all of its studios working on regular PS5 games. Otherwise they won't be able to compete with these Xbox + Bethesda + Activision showcases.
Ok, thanks for this video. I've been holding off on getting the PSVR2 because it's very expensive, and there don't seem to be a lot of games on it. This weekend, we had a small graduation party for my 10 y/o at a VR Arcade and everyone had a blast, resulting in my wife saying "why don't we get a VR headset for the home, it's expensive but we could probably make it happen." Naturally, I ask my friend who has a PSVR2 how he likes it compared to the Meta Quest 3, and he says he plats the MQ3 way more! And then this recent artical doesn't help. So now I'm wondering if I should get a MQ3, but this video helped a ton, Ryan! Now to check out the games my son and I would like 😁
Critical mass of consumers hasn’t reached VR yet. Could be either due to size of the VR headset itself and the comfort and ergonomics of it and/or the price being too steep. I think the VR hardware industry needs to mature a lot more before it is ready. It needs to be miniaturised and capable of automatically adjusting to the wearer, also it needs more accurate hand gesture tracking and room calibration that is near instant.
It's simple ergonomics. Beyond the initial novelty, most people don't want to bolt something to their head just to game, when a controller and a screen will do.
@@garydiamondguitaristyeah, it was too ambitious, the tech isn’t ready yet to render 4k in each eye from a built in SOC and battery. Once it is there it will be powerful.
Great video. I agree that two VR games in development from Playstation Studios is two more than I thought there'd be. It guts me how Sony has dropped almost every possible ball with PSVR 2. One thing I'll push back on: yes Sony gives their studios a lot of freedom to come up with their own ideas, but those projects still have to be pitched to Sony to be greenlit and funded. That's why there's no Days Gone 2. Bend pitched it, Sony management rejected it. Similarly, if Sony management wanted to push PSVR 2, they could probably encourage or even mandate that studios make games which at least have some sort of VR mode. The creative decisions could still be made by the studios, but if Sony said "you're supporting this hardware" or "you're going to support this other team when they make a VR version of your game," the studios would do it. As for Astro Bot, based on everything I've seen, it could have worked well in VR with minimal effort. Nothing they've shown is dramatically different from the PSVR 1 game Astro Bot Rescue Mission. People have modded Sackboy's Big Adventure to run in VR, and the only issue I've seen is if you look far in a direction the camera wasn't supposed to face, the environment cuts off harshly. An effect to simply make it fade into the background would fix that, and that's all that's needed. Even if Team Asobi wanted to focus on the flat version, Sony could have made an arrangement with them that they or another team (possibly third-party) would port the game to VR after they were done, and they could've announced that was happening when they announced the game. Capcom did exactly that when they announced RE4 Remake (at the end of the trailer it said "VR content also in development" which wound up being a full VR mode released around 8 months later). I also really agree that part of what is holding back PSVR 2 is the average gamer's feelings about VR in general. That said, fixing its fixable problems would improve its situation a lot. VR is tough to sell, because people can't really appreciate what it's like to play VR until they've done it themselves. Most people who buy into VR do it as a leap of faith, so the higher the price tag, the fewer people are willing to take the leap. It needs a price cut. Public demos would also help this quite a bit, and it's something Sony did with the PSVR 1. I agree its never going to become an absolutely massive platform, but a lower price and more clear support from Sony (even if it's via third-party studios) would improve its market position by a lot.
The 3DS was killing the Vita and there was absolutely nothing Sony could do about it. They were right to abandon it before they lost even more money on it. VR has had nearly a decade to gain momentum and no one cares about it. It's way overpriced and VR2 isn't even compatible with VR1! You have to be a Sony fanboy to defend this $600 waste of time.
Great video! I do think people are being unfair when judging things related to PS VR2 and I believe confirmation bias is one of the reason the article was discussed the way it was. The real issue with PS VR2 is just the state of VR. It needs to grow but companies are more interested in being the dominant player in that space.
Yep. This is hardware that needs to be loss lead for a while until it catches on. Also yeah not being able to play VR1 games even if it’s just with the old move and DS4 controllers is puzzling. This is such a shame as the headset and controllers are fantastic pieces of hardware that are just gonna go the way of the Vita.
I agree on the Price...thou the PS VR2 does have Backwards Compatibility+ Enhancing Capabilities. the true 2ND Thing that "Soft Killed" the VR2 was the PC adaptor. Now Sony pretty much just let PC Dev make VR games for it or just throw out a half baked patch to one of their 1st party titles 2 years later.
Actually, the bulky cumbersome design, poor comfort, tiny sweet spot and onion ring controllers had most people running for the hills. :P Quest 3 has far better aesthetics, and it came out less than a year later... It doesn't matter how many great 3rd party games land on PSVR2, it's the headset design, and a few poor design/feature choices that are going to scare most people away.
@@NintenPizza True, thou Sony came out with a 2nd party headband which made it far more comfortable and the Default VR Sticks offer the best experience in the Business. Just a ugly design. And wouldn't be shocked if they come out with a VR 2 Slim+ to revamp the design and add in more next gen tech into it. The Quest 3 took notes on the Flaws on the VR 2 and added them in to made the best "User Friendly/Appealing Design" in the field
Great breakdown! 👍 One small point I’d make about the PC adapter is that while the various things like headset rumble, adaptive triggers, and eye-tracked foveated rendering won’t be available for PC games, I’m pretty sure that’s gonna be a case-by-case scenario. I don’t think there will be anything precluding devs and modders from incorporating it, but all of those things are new to the PCVR space and so currently no/few games offer any of it. But I think they could all work *IF* a dev or modder makes a point of adding those functionalities in to a particular title. At least that’s what I’m hearing from PC folk. Regardless, even without those features the PSVR2 will be the least expensive OLED panel PC headset by leagues. Just sayin. 🙂
except Meta Quest is doing well, they're always on the top selling on Amazon and Batman Arkham Shadow is releasing on Quest 3. last year Quest 2 outsold Xbox and they're planning on releasing a cheaper version of Quest 3 to sell even more.
Thank Mystic for a balanced and realistic take on the VR situation. The games industry is in a state of flux and retraction. VR is a niche market, as much as I love it and how I primarily game, and so when retractions are taking place in the main, flat game, business, it only makes sense that the niche VR market will suffer accordingly.
Thanks for touching on this topic, Ryan! Those headlines were bothering me. I have been enjoying my PSVR2 just fine! Plenty of games to keep me busy and more coming this year. I'm fine if it's mostly Third party. The PC adapter and these free PS+ Games are really helping sell the value for me so far
If someone is going to be giving up on the headset then they better provide some software to make the headset open source so people can buy software from Steam. MAKE IT BACKWARDS COMPATIBLE!!!!
I was never into VR much but I bought this specifically for Gran Turismo 7 and I love it so much. Started trying a lot of other games and grew to love VR! I hope this doesn’t tank, but I’m also glad it will be getting PC support
I know it sucks that there has been so much wasted potential but at this point I’m completely fine with Sony abandoning PSVR and allocating resources to traditional games. Especially when it feels like there are such large gaps between first party releases now
There's not enough expendable time for the average person to commit their complete attention to vr gaming. Many of us come home tired from work and just want to game for a little bit between real life responsibilities before going to bed and doing it over again. Many of us need to be able to pause in case something in the household pops up and needs attention. VR is for people with an abundance of time and can lock themselves away for a while without worry. I think Sony really miscalculated the amount of people vr would be convenient for.
100% bought mine from a mate from work and after playing village there was really nothing else that interested me 🤷🏻♂️. Horizon wasn’t for me I thought the demo was okay but I don’t like the main games.
I'am mainly a PSVR2 Player. I love the headset and the first year was incredible (RE 8 & 4, GT7, Synapse, Horizon and so much more). We still have and had some bangers this year but it's all third party. I was convinced that I will get a PS5pro but if Sony did not announce something I want for my headset I will invest that money in a PC. It really depends what these two Games means. I really hoped that the Hybrid-Leaks a few years back where true. More flat games in VR is my dream. UEVR is not perfect but it is right now the closest thing to what I wish for. I hoped that after Jim Ryan leaving things could be better, but this does not sound like it. I still don't get why PSVR2 had such a bad reputation after the first year. I think Sony really tried but everyone hated on it anyway (looking at you Greg Miller 👀). With RE4 on Quest everyone loved it but with the Remake on PSVR2 so many people said "oh I played it half a year ago, why bother" even though that version is insane and one of the best VR things out right now. So Sony perhaps concluded that even trying does not move the needle... It sucks for me, but perhaps that's how the state of VR is right now.
It depends on what you mean by "crap on". People talking about the price to games ratio are correct. I got PSVR1 on a huge 50% sale long after the platform was relevant. I experienced all of the must-play games like Astro Bot, Moss, Beat Saber, RE7 etc. Even then I never felt like me getting it 50% was a steal. It felt just right. Because as soon as you leave the AAA sphere, indie VR games simply could not achieve the same level of immersion for me. Now PSVR2 is basically triple the price of what I got PSVR1 for and with FAR fewer "must play" games so I could never imagine myself getting it in its current state and I believe a lot of people feel exactly like me. If I'm paying a premium for a gadget that depends on my already expensive console to run, I want premium experiences.
You worded that perfectly. It’s a vr problem. Most ppl I know think it’s a fun 10 min experience. I have psvr and psvr 2 and love the experiences I’ve had. I get it though. It’s expensive and most ppl I show it to get motion sickness. Unfortunately I’ve noticed the best experiences I’ve had in them are games prone to give ppl that
You can say that about cellphones, computers, etc. when they first came out. Modern era VR is only about a decade old. Prices will come dow as technology advances. Older units such as the PSVR1 right now are also affordable
You're right. One of the biggest issues with VR is that you can't really understand what it's like to play it until you do. Flat trailers on youtube can't convey what it's like to play a VR game. That means most people who buy a VR headset are making a leap of faith. A higher price means fewer people are willing to make the leap. That said, the technology in VR headsets is expensive, which keeps the price high. Devices like the Quest 2 and 3 are being sold at significant losses to try to entice people. I think the solution is to subsidize the cost of the hardware with a monthly billed subscription service. You'd sign a contract for a service (like PS+ Premium for example), then you get the hardware for free or cheap, and if you don't pay your monthly bill the headset is disabled until you pay up. It works for cellphones. Most people have no idea how expensive their cellphone is because they get it on contract.
The headsets also seriously need to shrink down to the size of sunglasses or at the very least the size of ski goggles. I have the PS VR 2 and that headset is NOT comfortable to wear (it will hurt most people's noses after a while and I personally have to wear a sweat band on my forehead or else the headset starts to hurt my forehead after a while. The original PS VR headset was more comfortable than this. I also have a Leneovo Explorer headset for PC and that's 100 billion times more comfortable). So like how cellphones and computers shrunk down over time, the same needs to happen with VR headsets, along with the price. Anyway, only way PS VR 2 survives this gen is if GTA 6 has an optional VR mode (exclusive to PS VR 2) with multiple ways of movement (normal stick movement and an optional teleport movement for people who get motion sick while walking with some optional vignette shaders or something available while driving. Rockstar kind of / sort of did all of this with L.A Noire VR... they managed to keep that game from causing motion sickness).
@@tomato3280The price isn't the problem. PSVR2 could cost $100 and it still won't reach mainstream adoption for the simple fact that most people don't want to wear a bulky headset. That MIGHT change once VR headsets are in the form factor of sunglasses/visors like the one that Bret Hart used to wear in WWF.
It's expected but still disappointing. I bought day one both PSVR1 and PSVR2. It's the last time I will ever buy a peripheral from SONY. Sick of what they do to their customers, fans and partners that take the plunge. So many awesome games and imagine if they actually bothered...giving out PSVR2 games in Premium was a great idea but they should have started a long time ago, but this is what made me dust off the PSVR2. Having a blast with synth rider, mini golf and Saints and Sinners chapter 2 (still waiting to get a bucket seat and wheel for GT7, the reason I even got a PSVR2).
I fully agree with your analysis of the issues with the PSVR2! I pre-ordered PS VR to because I was running off of the excitement. I felt from having such a wonderful experience with PSVR1. I’m sorry I did that. I really should’ve waited to see what kind of support Sony would give? The first iteration didn’t thrive because of major Sony support. It became amazing because of third-party game support. What I’m not understanding is why PS VR developers are not making games for every vr system! The entire industry needs all the support that it can get so should be made available for all systems not just one or two. I am so disappointed in my purchase. I’ve only played with the headset once or twice and have not touched it anymore! A serious waste of money!!! I erroneously assumed that that initial lineup that came out so strong was a precursor what was to come. But I failed to look at what the track record already was for the PS5. If the PS5 was having issues, I don’t know what made me think the VR system would fair any better I was just caught up in the excitement. I developed a close family from just one game in VR and assumed that that game would be just as amazing in VR2 but the developer dropped the ball and it’s just not as good and all of my friends are still playing on vr1. I know the long-term success of the gaming industry is bright, but I do fear that the next couple of years for the industry is gonna be rocky I don’t see any happy endings or pots of gold at the end of the gaming rainbow right now. I think the next couple of years are going to be rough especially for PlayStation first party games!!!!!
A complete lack of 1st party games, costing more than the PS5 itself, zero reparability not even selling replacement controllers, no backwards compatibility, and being locked to PS5 is what killed PSVR2
PS VR2 costs $730 in my country...the games are like $50-$60 each on top of that...there's no way to justify that for myself. I'd love to try it though.
If instead of throwing money on VR (or PS portal) we had a PSP2, Sony would be taking a good slice of that Switch money pie. Jim Ryan did his miracles...
PSVR2 is a must own if you love survival horror and roguelites. Organ Quarter and Propagation Paradise Hotel are two of the best survival horror games you'll ever play. The Light Brigade, Synapse, The Foglands are great roguelites. And then theres legendary tales, a diablo/souls style game with 4 player coop. Walkabout Minigolf is 10/10 all day. Couple in the AAA games and you got yourself a great software library.
Psvr2 amd psvr 1 took over my Playstation 4 & 5 when they released. I play mine daily and hope they dont stop. VR is definitely a game changer for me and i dont even play flat games anymore. Behemonth is still in development and hopefully Killzone and Resistance can comeback and integrated PSVR2 support with the features the headset have

Answering the title question. Yes. Next question please
I think this is a really well put together video. As someone who owns a psvr2, I’ve been wondering if my purchase was worth it recently. Ultimately, I think it was, because I look at something like the quest 3, where there may be MORE games, but not some of my favorites like Resi 8 or 4, NMS, and I’m excited to try Madison. Well done, I’m excited to see VR take off. I don’t know if it’ll be this gen, but maybe next.
The only VR worth a damn today is Quest 3. You want exclusives? Batman Arkham Shadow, Asgard's Wrath, Assassin's Creed Nexus. Want to do PCVR and play Half Life Alyx? You can do that. It's also wireless and has pancake lenses with a huge sweetspot.
And only 1 of those exclusives is gonna be a native quest 3 game .... the others are quest 2 games with minor upgrades. Compare those to resident evil and gt7 for example on psvr2.
I agree with your sentiment here. There are a lot of great things on PSVR 2 and we're like a year and a half in. Though there should be more PC and Quest games available for it, for VR to really thrive it's too early for exclusives. The PSVR 2 is the middle point on quality and price I've been waiting for for so long, it's a shame the economy/gaming industry is in the state it's in when it did finally arrive (with studio closures and shareholder greed limiting development potential, and the economy limiting purchasing power of consumers (making VR a harder sell)). But there is a lot more there than people give it credit for, and way less patience or understanding on a lull in announcements compared to console gaming.
The conversation around PSVR2 is so challenging. I know it's not a big audience, but I think people just want to lean on negative narratives just for the sake of engagement. The PSVR2 library in a year, rivals anything that most consoles get. The amount of quality games are there. I do think there is a severe lack of marketing. Games like Hubris or Propagation are nowhere to be heard from and they are stellar games.
I think the two biggest things that hurt sales was the price and not supporting the first gen VR's games
Also that the average gamer doesn't want VR in this current landscape
I was ready to buy it day 1 just to play my psvr1 games at higher resolution. Instead I forgot it existed
I don't like VR, but I do agree. If that price was low ok my lil cousins would have got one instead of the meta oculus

The HQ move ruined everything, basically.

The PSVR 1 library makes me jealous being a PSVR 2 owner.
Still using mine and still loving it (psvr) ....
I’m just hoping eventually psvr2 will have a lot of compatible games for it. Even if it has to be on pc In a few years.

I think giving the pc adapter was the final straw to basically leave this to 3rd party developers
The thing is that PC gamers are not going to pick up a PSVR2, PC Adapter and a DP cable when they have other options.
@@nirast2561
Slightly better specs?
The biggest issue with VR is the serious lack of AAA games. They should port their older PSVR games to make up for that.
At least show a little more respect to all the people who bought it by doing that. I have a psvr2 and would love to play Astro rescue mission but can’t.
The problem is VR isn't large enough to fund AAA development that's why all the AAA VR games are just VR modes added to pre existing games
@@SweetKingTanneryeah they should at least port Astro Bot: Rescue Mission to PSVR2 if the new game won’t have a VR mode.
It's Nintendo type tactics, like what they did to Sega

PSVR2 is dead
@@Great-Documentaries Except it really isnt
Sony dropping the price $200 is confirmation that they're blowing out their inventory and are abandoning the platform. Sony are tightwads. They'd never give such a huge discount for any other reason.
They should have developed a proper AAA spinoff KillZone or Resistance for PSVR2
That’s a super cool idea but like ngl I would prefer to see a revival for either of those on the PS5 xxxx
They shouldve rereleased a proper Fallout 4 VR for ps5 in timing with the show.
Thank you for doing what you do
No backwards compatible baffles me like I hate rebooting my psvr 1 just to play of those games again.
3rd party devs did NOT “keep the Vita going until like 2 years ago.”
That’s like saying indie devs are keeping the Dreamcast going because they’re still releasing games for it.

This 30,000 word essay of yours isn’t going to change Sony’s mind nor that of its Class A shareholders.
The big thing is price, PSVR2 needs to be 299€/$ for it to take off. But that sort of price point isn't feasible.
Even then that’s doubtful as it needs a PS5 to work.
It is if they deploy the same method that they use for their consoles. Selling it at a loss and recoup the money through selling games.
@@Lvestfold4143everyone is broke due to cost of living. People aren't buying games.
@@TheAmazingSpiderGuy_99 I thought it was PC compatible now?
how many games you need to sell to recoup 2-300$ loss on a single headset? especially when the average consumer buys only a couple of games...........

The average consumer cannot afford to buy a ps5+vr headset in the economic climate that we have today, and to even want to be motivated to spend such a large amount, you then first want to try the tech.
Something that is very difficult to be able to do as few people have these VR glasses and in many countries game shops have closed down.
Well did you see other vr units on PC, it's minimum the same price so it's not overpriced but. Buying a compatible PC +vr is much more expensive.
PSVR2 is an amazing headset with a great library of games. People just hate
Yep, makes sense
Sony was never consumer friendly. Only thing they ever wanted was the every penny you own.
Well said. I was tempted by the Days of Play sale, but I'm waiting for holidays to see how some of the bigger PSVR 2 games due later this year turn out (like Behemoth, Arken Age, Metro Awakening VR, Alien Rogue Incursion, Wanderer: Fragments of Fate, Metal Hellsinger, etc.)
On point 3, most people can play VR, they just can't jump right into intense games with free or fast movement like the RE games or GT7.

I agree but RIP that studio :(

That's 3 users that didn't buy in due to those things you listed as not real reasons. Same here, was going to buy it but I knew as soon as they revealed the price it was DOA so I didn't buy it, no point in buying into a dead platform.

As a PSVR2 user this is extremely annoying. I’ll not be acting on good faith for Sony hardware any longer. PS VITA was very similar
Backward compatibility is the only reason why I didn't bother with PSVR2.
I LOVE my PSVR2. Play Demeo if you haven't.
However, unfortunately, it's almost intolerable for me to wear it for more than an hour.

The main thing is not game support from Sony. They could have made some of their AAA games VR compatible, even without a full support for the VR controller. Kind of like the Resident Evil games that have VR support.

It is currently €410 on sale, I paid €500 for the console. Worth it? @@PSspecialist
Great point on exclusivity not being sustainable or needed in VR, since VR headsets in their own right are already a pretty niche tech space.
It's usually a high-priced device, and on PC would require high-end PCs to run the best of games.

Guess they just like dipping their feet in the water and splash them around a little bit. Silly Sony!
This weekend, we had a small graduation party for my 10 y/o at a VR Arcade and everyone had a blast, resulting in my wife saying "why don't we get a VR headset for the home, it's expensive but we could probably make it happen."
Naturally, I ask my friend who has a PSVR2 how he likes it compared to the Meta Quest 3, and he says he plats the MQ3 way more!

This is what happened to the vita, sony gave up way too soon. They need to stick it out and make games. That’s what saves it.
@@Great-Documentaries you have to be broke to think 600 dollars is a lot of money.

The real issue with PS VR2 is just the state of VR. It needs to grow but companies are more interested in being the dominant player in that space.
The price and no backwards compatibility made it DOA.

One small point I’d make about the PC adapter is that while the various things like headset rumble, adaptive triggers, and eye-tracked foveated rendering won’t be available for PC games, I’m pretty sure that’s gonna be a case-by-case scenario.
Just sayin. 🙂

I don't know why Sony just doesn't approach the 2D-VR modders and let them go crazy converting Sony properties to VR... this is easy money.
Thanks for touching on this topic, Ryan! Those headlines were bothering me. I have been enjoying my PSVR2 just fine! Plenty of games to keep me busy and more coming this year.
No backwards compatibility was thankfully the one missing feature that kept me from buying a PSVR2. So happy I didn’t waste my money.

The overwhelming majority of people who crap on VR, have no idea what they're talking about. This comments section is a perfect example.
If I'm paying a premium for a gadget that depends on my already expensive console to run, I want premium experiences.

vr will never be mainstream if the prices to these are always so high
@@TuBachle1 psvr2 is exclusively for video games why are you comparing it to a smartphone

VR has the most creative gaming experiences and FUN I've had in years. Guess I'll go back to being disappointed with stagnant flat games.
It's not a big deal, you'll live. The games were just fine before VR, and they will be fine after.
@@dapperfan44 my passion for flat games are on the decline. Hopefully we get a focus on fun and creativity instead of graphics and microtransactions.
What games? I like VR, but lets be real
"Stagnant flat games" aren't going to be affected either way by a couple of novel VR experiences a small percentage of gamers are interested in.
@@garydiamondguitarist I know they aren't affected, I just don't want that to be the only choice.
Way to heavy and big, to expensive, not enough games. This will always be a niche product. So not surprising it doesn’t sell very well
Psvr2 amd psvr 1 took over my Playstation 4 & 5 when they released.
So, Sony is just going to leave everyone who bought an expensive VR2 headset with no games out to dry?
Unfortunately. Speculation here but I think the reason they made a dongle for pc is to avoid a class action lawsuit.
@@6reen6uythey made a dongle as a way to sell the remaining VR2 headsets. Sony isn’t even making the headset anymore.
Yep.
@@PDXTundra 😂
Sony stole your money lol
The conversation around PSVR2 is so challenging. I know it's not a big audience, but I think people just want to lean on negative narratives just for the sake of engagement. The PSVR2 library in a year, rivals anything that most consoles get. The amount of quality games are there. I do think there is a severe lack of marketing. Games like Hubris or Propagation are nowhere to be heard from and they are stellar games.
