Most places I've lived it's way easier to explain away a medium sized pocket knife than brass knuckles. ”i use it for making sandwiches and opening packages at work ". Its camping equipment. Brass knuckles there's no legit explanation for why you're carrying it. Collapsible batons the same. Like a lightweight 4" blade flippy lockback can be a good option. Not illegal and plenty effective.

I believe that is why the medieval Japanese invented the 6" to 7" inch wooden Yawara stick and the Koreans invented the 12" dan bong wood stick for specifically self-defense. They wanted an object that would have been ridiculous to use as an offensive weapon, yet highly effective in personal self-defense and protection situations. The two sticks would be looked upon as completely harmless objects then and now.

First thing often taught in dojos is fist and wrist in straight line. If you punch a heavy bag hard with your grip, wrist collapses..regular grip is more natural. Also, explaining illegal brass knuckles to the law, is a tough one. I use small section of tree branch cutting(1" diameter and slightly longer than palm), with a protruding part, between index and middle. (about an 1"). Easy to configure, dispose and free. S&W airweight .38spl is better. Brass knuckles are a piss poor choice, no offense. They are considered a "deadly weapon" in all but four states IIRC. So if you use one of these in "self defense" you could be facing a felonious assault charge. Same thing with any deadly weapon. If a deadly weapon is called for, I want one that's actually going to fit that definition in reality, not just leagally. bang bang

Before buying any such device, one should consult an attorney.
As others have noted, such devices are illegal in many jurisdictions; the illegality may vary from state to state, or even from town to town. Again, one should consult an attorney.
If one wants to use such a device, there are practical (in addition to legal) considerations: size, age, agility, balance, speed, strength, reflexes, and skill. One must be fast and strong. One must get within arm's reach. In any street conflict, arm's reach is a bad idea. Distance is good, more distance is better. Situational awareness is key, and one truly does need to learn about the laws of self-defense well before one needs to defend oneself, hence the need for an attorney.
One wins 100% of the fights in which one does not participate.

I've read and seen similar boxing advice for self-defense. It follows the principle of KISS. Given a fundamental knowledge of boxing and some practice, I heard the following. Use left-hand jabs defensively, keeping an attacker at bay. Jab, jab, jab, and right cross to the chin. Purportedly this also works well against multiple assailants, quickly moving from one to another, taking the initiative against them. Of course this still takes instruction and practice.
On the opposite side of the coin are those who do not recommend boxing punches as it takes too much skill and the unprotected fist can be easily damaged and the wrist is vulnerable to damage. Reportedly the great Mike Tyson broke a knuckle or finger in a brawl outside a Las Vegas casino back in the late 90s. These self-defense exponents recommend limiting hand strikes to: edge of hand, palm strikes, hammer fist strikes. Possibly consider the martial art slap, the open hand slightly cupped, fingers closed. The striking area is the slightly cupped palm preferring the outer edge of the palm. This slap strike can break a jaw or rupture an eardrum. It is used in Southern Mantis Kung Fu and original French Savate from the early 19th century as Napoleonic Law defined the use of the fist as the same as using a weapon like a club or rock.
Disclaimer: I am not a martial artist nor self-defense expert. I am repeating advice I saw on the Internet and social media. You bear all responsibility for yourself and what you do to others.

Yes you have a definite point about jogging and not having access to a fast defense weapon just in case things decide to go south. What I normally like to do just in case I'm going to a club A park Jam, an event. I like to be able to carry a very small waist pack very small, very light it's basically a fanny pack but very very close to your torso around your hips or you can wrap it around your stomach.. this was something that I thought about especially being a parkour and a dancer doing flips movement things of that sort cuz therefore I could just keep my ID and my other card debit card and my phone and my earphones in such a small compartment. and for all reasons because I don't have to worry about losing any of my belongings just in case I happen to get into a fight if ever there's one that is presented.
Of course if I'm walking the street just in case I'm going to catch public trans especially possibly late at night or even going to the store. the list of things goes as follows as to what I never leave the house with out.
1 two nylon stretchable tactical belts.
One belt for general use. The other, for defense. Very easy to etc a hold of. Easy to get past guards. At events etc.
    2 compact police baton
    3.compact mini dager.
    4. Small fans pack.
For wallet ear plugs, phone, baton.
Depending where I'm going I'm not keeping all those weapons. But it's a change up arsenal. It's not that I can't fight. I hope I never need to use any of them. But the way these teen are especially playing the punch out games. Or like to follow people in large gangs, groups. Let alone shoot off guns as a sport.
    I

    No
    Chances.

  • @m3photo726
    @m3photo726 หลายเดือนก่อน

Good tip. However, you will find very few videos that tell you the absolute basics of how to engage when it’s a question of fight or flight. These guys are experts and so they can identify their targets and hit them with precision. This takes years of knowledge and practice but seems so easy on the screen. Almost all strikes are to the head and upper body and therefore also look impressive. These exercises are for the Dojo, not for street emergencies.
Hitting others in the face is definitely not recommended - these days there are always those with phone cameras and that sort of evidence if the police turn up will always go against you initially - although it’s a natural instinct when we give in to our emotions instead of keeping focused on the main aim and that is to injure your opponent correctly so as to then go to the next phase which is flight. Dropping someone to the floor and then going down with them is also a no-no in the street, the most unsuspected individuals could join in and speed of execution is your goal.
Now, the most important thing to keep in mind is that someone with an injured leg can’t run. This must be your priority: neutralize the leg. One leg is enough and the advantage is that there are two of them, versus one head, so you can choose whichever side suits you best. When confronted raise the arms as if to offer surrender. This catches the opponent off guard, keeps your head protected and also acts as an upper body stabilizer for the kick. Don’t kick with your toes out in front - much the same as with the hand; fingers and toes break with relative ease, that’s why punching isn’t recommended and open palm strikes are - use the heel instead. A sideways motion catching and displacing the kneecap is ideal. If you miss, you’ll at least have made the leg double sideways and if not breaking something is at least extremely painful; a straight blow to the knee will make the opponent feel sick and if hard enough will have them out of the game for long enough for you to get away. Also, on camera, it doesn’t show you to be either an expert or willing to inflict purposeful injury, rather a clumsy, spur of the moment way out. Now start practising at home so your “clumsiness” is highly effective. Like the man said, the more you do it, the better at it you are.

wrt "you tend to want to avoid bone-on-bone collision", and hen you demoinstrate a punch to the head where you turn the fist over. When hitting to the side of the head and even to the skull or to the face, there is no need to throw that kind of punch. It is much safer and just as effective to strike using the inside of your fist, with the thumb held to the side of the fist. You may remember that was in fact the only way that a fighter was permotted to strike at the head in the old Pankration competition (see old Bas Rutten videos to watch those fights). Ofc, this kind of striking is not effective to the body, but it is by face the best and safest way to strike the boney parts of the head if using a fist.
There are some technical points ot make about striking with the inside surfaces of the fist.
    1. There are three potential contact points, the "knocking knuckles" (the knuckles you use when knocking on a door), the entirety of the surface of the inside of the fist, and the thenar muscles
    2. The elbow of the striking arm always points down to the ground
    3. Make sure you use contralateral rotation of the shoulders to get power (right hand strikes, left shoulder pulls back, kind of like starting a lawn mower)
    4. While being a good way to strike at all distances, keep the scapula depressed at close distances (for stiffness of the blow at contact and for shplder stablity ) but you can extend the scapula for striking at longer distannces
    5. Don't loop your punches. Again, power comes substantially from contralateral sholder rotation
    6. These punches can be as straight as you like but you can also through straight and then hook at the end, bringing the inside of the fist onto the hitting surface with a whip at the end of the blow (for example, when striking the chin or jaw).
    7. These punches become even more powerful if you change weight (from one leg to the other) as you hit.
    8. These punches can also be thrown with a whipping or chopping action. For example, whipping the knocking knuckles into the face can damage the eyes, break the nose, knocl out teeth. It is very effective at short range por very close quarters.
You might like to experiment with this. Cheers.

Running away as your defense? Okay. But... What is the natural response of a predator like a mountain lion or bear if you run? Usually, it is to attack. And, they can run faster than you can, and you've given your back. I know, just run faster than someone you are with, hahaha. Human predators as very similar.
Not saying fight human predators every time. However please know, sometimes running might be the very worst answer. Talking your way out of things is probably a better answer than running in many instances. You run, you validate their belief they can take you. What about the next time you meet them????

So how much were you paid to promote these brass knuckles? I mean I find a lot wrong with what you're saying. Granted I find this type of weapon cool which is probably why TH-cam recommended this video. But it's not really a practical self-defense weapon. You don't punch with them like a regular punch. You have to do kind of a short little kind of a Haymaker rabbit punch type thing. And you wear them along your lower Knuckles like you show the second time. You do mention legality and that's good brass knuckles are illegal a lot of places. Not where I live. But still I carry pepper spray which is a much better self-defense weapon than brass knuckles. It gets you away from the target you don't have to close in. And it takes very little training and body mechanics to use. My mom can use pepper spray she can't use brass knuckles. My mom could also use a gun but I'm sticking this to less lethal. You also mention knives and flashlights. And first the flashlight is not a weapon. It's a tool like you said but honestly you should be carrying something better for self-defense then just a flashlight. And expect to not blind the person and actually not do much damage when you're hitting them with it. Also expect to break your flashlight. On to the knife that's a pocket folding knife it's more of a tool than a weapon. It's still deadly don't get me wrong but it's not again a very good self-defense weapon because one it folds and so it's weaker than a fixed blade knife and two you need a good size blade on a knife. I recommend no shorter than 7 in for the blade. And I have concealed carried a kabar knife. It's very simple to do. I don't know this is kind of rambling. Tldr pepper spray is way better than brass knuckles.

You must have no knowledge of personal protection. They have holsters and guns that work great for running. That should be 1st thing obviously. This would be way down the list. A good one hand opening knife, and then other basic handheld small devices should be (a distant) 2nd and 3rd after the gun. This thing would be something like 5th or 6th.
