One of the best bands in the world, imo... what a rabbit hole to dive into... Aussie pub rock royalty....

  • @kazz3956
    @kazz3956 12 วันที่ผ่านมา +25

The band formed in 1973. They are known as a pub rock band. In Australia, bands had to play live in the pubs to make it, some playing almost every night. Hence the term Pub rock.
They did not record an album until 1978. They officially broke up in 1983, but reformed for later concerts and albums.
    Band members -
Lead singer is Jimmy Barnes or Barnsey. He started the song prior to the guitarist going up to the mic. That guy is Ian Moss or Mossy. He also sings quite a few songs. In any band he'd get the sole lead singer role but he actually asked the other members to bring in a dedicated singer. Jimmy was only 16 and a half when he joined.
The other members include Don Walker on keys (and although they all write songs, he wrote the majority), Phil Small on bass, and Steve Prestwich RIP in 2011, on drums. Dave Blight was on harmonica for this performance.
They have songs as ballads like Forever Now, and My Baby, rock songs like Goodbye (Astrid Goodbye) and the cover of Wild Thing, blues songs like this one, soul songs like Knocking on Heavens Door (Bob Dylan Cover) from 1980, and Standing on on the Outside.
Breakfast at Sweethearts has a reggae sound. Then some of my other favourites include Letter to Alan, Choir Girl, When the War is Over, Flame Trees, Cheap Wine, Saturday Night, No Sense, You Got Nothing I want (a song written on their return from America), One Long Day, Home and Broken Hearted, Lost, Way Down, Long As I can see the light (CCR cover), Janelle, Ita, All for you, Four Walls, Khe Sanh, Conversations and Rising Sun.....
And still I feel I've left some good ones out.
Massive fan. I have 🎟 tickets to see Chisel in October for their 50th reunion tour.

Great great Aussie band. Currently doing their 50 year anniversary tour. Went to USA. Got treated like shit. Told them to shove it and came home. Wrote “ you got nothing I want” about that. Songs Choir Girl, about a friend supporting a young girl while she has an abortion. When the war is over. Some people say it’s about returning from war, some say it’s above divorce. Breakfast at Sweethearts about cafe in Sydney red light zone during the 80’s. Jimmy Barnes is the singer who doesn’t play guitar. Listen to his daughter, Mahalia doing Riding with The Kings with the best guitarist in the world, Joe Bonamassa

Ahhhhhhhh! Cold Chisel, with Jimmy Barnes on lead vocals and Iam Moss also handling quite a few of the vocals. Great Australian band that was very big in that country for years, and deservedly so. Jimmy Barnes did a collaboration with Joe Bonamassa a few years back called "Stone Cold." You want your socks knocked off? Give that one a try.

So so so so so much more to check them out.
Cold Chisel - truly the greatest Rock band you've never heard of.
This legendary Australian rock band though having massive supporter base and being beloved for 50 years in Oz are known little outside these shores. Their live shows are legendary, songwriting greatness from all 5 band members and a unique vocal pairing of Jimmy Barnes (singer) and Ian Moss (guitarist) make every song an amazing journey.
The discography is huge but here are a couple of songs to get you started.
When the war is Over - live from the Ringside tour 2003 (same concert as Bow River)- Written by their drummer Steve Prestwich, it as an absolute anthem in Australia and one of the most beloved ballads written.
    th-cam.com/video/x4Wwq9_zn_c/w-d-xo.html
Wild Thing - Live 1983 The Last Stand tour - even though they were breaking up at the time, still at the top of their game. This cover of The Troggs classic is quite possibly the greatest live rock track ever recorded.
    th-cam.com/video/8Z6RjUi3rmE/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=GlennThomas
Khe Sanh - Their first single released in 1978 about the returning problems of a Vietnam War Veteran - controversial at the time, shortly after the end of the war, it has become a national anthem in Oz and still a powerful showcase of what they would produce for the decades that followed.

When Chisel broke up in 1983, they were Australia's most popular band......much more popular than AC/DC , Bee Gees, Air Supply , Little River Band, Crowded House or any other band from Australia you might have heard about.
When they reformed twenty years later in 2003, they were still Australia's most popular Rock or Pop band ever, lead singer Jimmie Barnes is still Australia's Rock Superstar and lead guitarist come 2nd lead singer, Ian Moss, is a living legend and still performing tv etc as well as music and singing.
Every member of the band wrote more than one Classic Rock song or ballad.

Jimmy singing “a change is gonna come” is sublime
Jimmy also has duets with aussie band INXS, and great aussie singer John Farnham as well as Tina Turner
Cold chisel are mostly considered best Australian band ahead of AC/DC and INXS
All cold chisel songs are epic

if you like to have your socks blown off this song from Jimmy will do that for you it has everything it has power grit n growl

I first saw Chisel play in 1975 and I have been a die hard fan ever since. They are always full steam ahead in their live performances. Chisel have a range of material from rock like this one, to some ballads and covers (they have a fantastic live version of Conway Twitty's "Only Make Believe"), thanks to all five members of their main line up writing songs that were hits (how many bands can say that?). For many, they are Australia's most iconic and greatest rock band. They have broken up and got back together a few times over the years and the remaining four members of their longest lived line up (a couple of original members left in their initial two years) are touring again this year. Chisel tried to make it in the US but got shafted by their record company and didn't go back. They began in 1973 as a heavy metal band playing covers and in the early days there were often fights between Jimmy Barnes (with the gravely voice) and other band members. The harmonica player, Dave Blight, was a regular addition to live performances. To see their variety, I suggest you take a look at the iconic "Khe Sanh" (about a Vietman vet and adopted by many as an unofficial national anthem) "Flame Trees", "Forever Now", "When The War Is Over", "Saturday Night", "Choir Girl" and "You Got Nothing I Want" (written as a response to their treatment by their record company in the US). PS For other great Australian bands, check out INXS and the very different glam rock of Sky Hooks.

When Cold Chisel performed in Japan, they wondered why Jimmy was shouting at them? He is now sober and very talented.

Oz's best rock band. Better than accadacca. They stayed true to themselves.
They went to the US and were not happy with what the US promoters wanted them to do
so they said FY and came back to OZ. They wrote a song about it called " You've Got Nothing I want , You've Got Nothing I need".
Not recognised but one of the worlds great rock band.

I'm glad you've discovered Cold Chisel. They deserve to be known outside Oz.
Lots of their videos I could recommend but I'll stick to two:
Wild Thing: a 1982 cover of the Troggs' classic that perfectly captures why Chisel were a favourite live band; up with the best live rock performances you'd ever hope to see

Jimmy might seem to sound like just a loud screamer to the casual listener but he has some pipes that have lasted and mellowed over many years of continually performing and evolving at a high level in the Australian pub music scene into a generally sweeter sound over his long career without necessarily losing any of the fullness or loundness to his voice. Some of Jimmy's power ballads are more Soul than Rock but the grit and passion is always clearly evident either as a solo act or with other distinguished musical company such as John Farnham, Tina Turner, Cold Chisel band, or his own talented family members and in-laws.

You’re perfectly entitled to your opinion, and that is all it is, YOUR opinion. Doesn’t make it fact though does it! I hate Red Hot Chilli Peppers but that doesn’t make them shit, it just means I don’t like them. I don’t go and leave negative comments on their videos. Your mum was right!!
