100% go see this, then work your way through their other songs. As a band with 2 lead singers and incredibly skilled instrumentalists they can tackle a surprising mix of genres. You may remember them from a collaboration with Tina Turner many years ago

    Hi guys
Song is from the 1982 album Circus Animals (which doesn't have a bad track at all). This is a 2003 performance which was just the second reformation of the band after their initial break-up in 1983. First reformation was only 5 years prior in 1998.
Cold chisel.is a whole band experience especially with guest players like Saxophonist Andy Bickers (there's been others over the journey) and the Harmonica player David Blight (he's been their guest player for 45 years) so he's not even in the band but gets several solos per concert. Also have a bevy of back-up singers too more recently (these include Jimmy's daughter Mahalia).
Sadly the drummer Steve Preswitch passed away in January 2011. Charley Drayton sits on the drummer's stool nowadays and has done since the final recordings of the No Plans album and the massive national tour in late 2011, also been a national tour in 2015 and January 2020 with the odd special 1 off gigs. New albums have been released in 1998, 2012,2015 and 2019 with some great songs coming from the later catalogue. Steve went o to play in the little River band after the 1983 break-up.
    Great reaction.

Cold Chisel took a swing at breaking into the American market. They flew to the US to have a meeting with one of the record labels (Elektra, I think) but the dude they were supposed to see didn't turn up because he went to a dogs funeral instead. So the band packed up, flew back home and wrote the song "You've got nothing I want" as a response. .. So the story goes. Not 100% sure about it but wouldn't be surprised if it was true.

    Star Hotel
You Got Nothing I Want (backstory to this - worth reading)

'Cold Chisel' - truly the greatest Rock band you've never heard of.
This is a legendary Australian rock band, that although having massive supporter base and being beloved for 50 years in Oz, are known little outside these shores. Their live shows are legendary, songwriting greatness from all 5 band members and the unique vocal pairing of Jimmy Barnes (singer) and Ian Moss (guitarist) make every song an amazing journey.
The discography is huge, but here are a couple of songs to get you started.
'When the war is Over' - live at 2003 Ringside tour (same one as Bow River)- Penned by Steve the drummer this ballad is haunting and beloved by many Aussies.
    th-cam.com/video/x4Wwq9_zn_c/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=ColdChisel
Wild Thing - Live 1983 The Last Stand tour - even though they were breaking up at the time, still at the top of their game. This cover of The Troggs classic is quite possibly the greatest live rock track ever recorded.

I live in South Australia, more to the point, in the suburb of Largs Bay. It was at the Largs Bay Hotel, just around the corner from where I lived, that Cold Chisel had regular weekend engagements. The crowd that went to each engagement was fiercely loyal to Cold Chisel, and if you wanted your nose broken, just make a disparaging remarks about the band. I never did, I loved their music too much. Those were the heady days of the 1970s.

Jimmy Barnes (fondly known as Barnsey), lead singer of Cold Chisel, still keeps up a huge workload as he's never happier than when he's touring and playing. However he recently had to cancel all gigs due to a sudden illness but he is now out of hospital and recuperating after open heart surgery. Get well Barnsey!

Happy New Year and it is happy any time Chisel gets played.
And, yes, you got the right one.
Chisel put out good studio albums but their reputation was made by their live shows. They started out in pubs and clubs playing to small audiences - maybe 200-250 people. I was fortunate enough to see them in the early days and they always gave it their all.
I'd also recommend "When the War is Over" (Ringside) from the same show and "Wild Thing" (Last Stand). "Wild Thing" is a really good example of their early days.
You should know that all the band wrote songs and they all sang. Jimmy Barnes is the obvious lead singer but Ian Moss the lead guitarist also sang lead a lot.
I could say more, much more, but I'll leave it at that.

Pub rock means anyunsigned group, paying their dues. You had to be good, or were thrown out. This group were very loved by pretty much the whole country. At their last stand concert they were about to go separate ways. They were so great at what they did, and there was a lot of infighting, they did not want to give less than their best, so they split. They have been back a few times since. The whole band are songwriters, so there is a lot of variety. The guitarist Ian Moss, or Mossy, is still going solo. You should try to find him from the last stand concert, doing Georgia, it wasn't on the playlist, and it was just him and the piano player. He did this so well. The band did go to America, but were messed around by the record execs, so Jimmy Barnes, Barnsey, the second lead singer, wrote, you've got nothin' I want, after they came home. Jimmy is a living national treasure, just now getting over heart surgery, he started using his vocal fry at around age 16, and folks said he should stop that screaming, or he'd lose his voice. He's a grandpa now and still got it. See him and Joe Bonamassa, with stone Cold, or Lazy. He recently put out an anniversary album, with a few extras, including a collab with Sam Moore from your Sam & Dave, on Soothe Me. Get well Jimmy.

COLD CHISEL is Australian rock royalty, and they remind you of 80s music because they were a big part of the 80s rock scene
, ,. You mentioned contemplating a show featuring nothing but Australian content ,this idea has been done to death , but you could do a show with just Australian music that would keep you going for years . WE punch above our weight when it comes to musical acts , crossing all genres . For the most part ,Aussie acts are better live,a lot of them started their careers playing in clubs and pubs so they love the interaction of a live audience . They king of the Australian music industry is John Farnham who is still performing occasionally at the age of 74 he is the quintessential stage performer and no journey into Australian music should exclude him , you have my subscription which I don't give lightly and hope you have many more Aussie reactions

A HEAVY rock band that performed ballads so well, many of their most popular songs are slower ballads or softer rock songs.
Every band member writes great songs, and their best ballad, When The War is Over, was written by the drummer, Steve Prestwiche.
Guitarist Ian Moss ( Mossie ) does the leed vocals on Bow River and many ballads, but Jimmy Barnes, with the big gravelly voice, is the leed singer and part time backing singer. lol
Check out an older Jimmy Barnes doing a cover duet of Sam n Daves When Something Is Wrong With My Baby... ..with John Farnham.
    Billed as Farnsey and Barnesy.
Also Stone Cold......Jimmy Barnes with Joe Bonamassa burning the blues on his salvaged vintage Les Paul.

If you are going into Aussie music there is so many directions you could go . The second singer Jimmy Barns has a huge back catalog with many duets like John Farnham , When something is wrong with my baby . Even a duet with Joe Bonamassa , Stone cold. John Farnham's Help with the Symphony Orchestra , his duet with Olivia Newton John , Please don't ask me. The Black sorrows , Never let me go or if you like heavy rock you cant go past ACDC live at Dinner plate Argentina. INXS , pronounced in excess are also another unique funk rock band that had massive international following.

Happy New Year to all in the Northern
    Hemisphere. 🎉🎉🎉
Believe me when a lot of Australians tells you they have a huge catalogue of brilliant songs.
They started in the 70's. The regular band consists of Jimmy Barnes on lead vocals, Ian Moss who sang most of this song on vocals and guitar, Don Walker who wrote so many of their hits on keys, Phil Small on bass, and Steve Prestwich RIP on drums. Dave Blight played the harmonica (and whilst he was not always in the band he did play with them over the years. He was just fabulous here, don't you agree?)
Check out One Long Day from 1978. To see Jimmy's pure rock god performance of "Wild Thing" from the Last Stand concert.
So many good live performances out there to choose from.
This 1982 concert has some brilliant performances. See Forever Now at 39 minutes into the concert, Letter to Allan the next subsequent song, and When Something is Wrong with my Baby at 1 hour and 39 minutes or so. (and so many many more). Enjoy

Great reaction to a great song by a great band. It's good that this song highlights both lead singers (both have their own solo career) - Ian moss (playing lead as well) and Jimmy Barnes together are magic. Bow river is both a river (in the Top End of Australia - specifically the Kimberley region) and the name of a station (farm). It's near where the world famous Argyle Diamond Mine is. When this song was written, Adelaide (some 3000km south of Bow River) was the car manufacturing capital of Australia and this song was about the difference between the mindless manufacturing jobs there and life in the far north.

Cold Chisel formed in 1973 broke up 15 Dec 1983 40 years ago after the Cold Chisels last stand concert in Sydney . They reformed in 1998 . That's why you see Jimmy Barnes or Ian Moss as a Solo artist during that 15-year period . They go right across the spectrum, check this song Flame Trees from the late 70's totally different again but very poignant th-cam.com/video/K8KgP2aOXcA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=3b8RkuEDqV40FkHr

I'm Canadian, but I lived in Australia many years ago. They're too scared to go near the real Aussie rock stuff. Another con channel trying to sell merch.

@@Highway61Revisted I'm sick of channels like this. They're clout chases and complete liars. Pretending to not know popular songs. I checked because I thought they were open minded and curious. Not so judging from their other content. I don't even want to be reminded of a channel that only views videos that get them views.

They had a lot of other songs that weren't this intense. Anyway, looks like you've given up on them.. moving on.

Fuck yeah.. I'm moving on too. This is a fucking joke of a channel. What a couple of wussies.
