This strikes all of us who have loved and lost. I bought this album when it first came out, and this song struck me to my soul and has done so ever since.
Is this tune and her rendition just amazing.....heartfelt and so deep. DAMN, I love her. Yours is such a lovely sentiment that captures the lyrics so well. Bonnie is special.
This is one of Bonnie Raitt's greatest songs because there is so much emotion in it. The emotions say I'm going to lay with you one last time and then I'll accept the hardest thing possible: the need to let go. I read somewhere that she did this in one take because she didn't think she could reproduce the emotions or maybe didn't WANT to reproduce the emotions they were so powerful. This comes through in the song.
Interesting story. Mike Reid and Alan Shamblin were both country music songwriters, who according to some accounts originally wrote the song as a fast, bluegrass number. Upon slowing down the tempo considerably, they realized the song gained considerable power and thought about giving the song to one of three artists: Bonnie Raitt, Bette Midler or Linda Ronstadt. Eventually, the song made its way to Bonnie Raitt, who recorded the track for her eleventh studio album, Luck of the Draw (1991). Raitt co-produced the song with Don Was, while Bruce Hornsby provided a piano accompaniment
"How can something be so beautiful and sad at the same time?" Such is love. After all to enter into love one must "fall". Sounds like a tough way into anything haha. Bonnie's cover of this song is just so touching that it's always been my favorite song of hers. Thank you Sarah. 🎄❤☮🙏 PS... where's Anteros when you need him.
Bonnie Raitt was the perfect artist for this song. I agree with the Teddy Swims recommendation in other comments. His version means so much more with Bonnie Raitt, who made it so popular, as a baseline. It was uplifting to see you mention beauty in addition to the obvious sadness. A good reaction to a good song. Happy Holidays to you and your family, Sarah.
Hi Sarah! "I can´t make you love me" is a song recorded by Bonnie Raitt for her eleventh studio album, "Luck of the draw" (1991). "It can´t make you love me" became one of Raitt´s most successful singles, reaching the top-20 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The song is ranked at number 339 on the Rolling Stone magazine´s list of the 500 Greatest songs of all time. Some other artists who has recorded the song. George Michael, Adele, and Bonnie Tyler. Thanks for an amazing reaction video.
Sarah, Bonnie's rabbit hole is worthy. She is one of the greatest slide guitarists on the planet. An IVY Leauge educated woman. (African studies- Radcliffe aka the women's Harvard) Her music reflects her intelect. Numerous black blues perfomers befriended her when then sensed her sincerity and taught her the blues.
This is a brilliantly written song in regards to the music and lyrics and it's one of the saddest songs about unrequited love. I was thinking about adopting it as my theme song because it describes my relationship history perfectly! 🤔
I have seen her 3 times in concert. The first when I was 17 (loooooong time ago) , in New York at the Philharmonic. Brought me to tears when she sang Love Has No Pride.
The lyrics are absolutely beautifully sad . One way love has to be the most heart breaking feeling ever . I’ve been on both sides. And they both equally suck .
This is probably the most beautiful sad song out there; truly heartbreaking lyrics.
The great Bruce Hornsby on piano. Bonnie is the real deal.
