Peter Gabriel's Secret World Tour has always fascinated me, he was arguably at the peak of his abilities here.

This was an awesome band and album, but my favorite live Gabriel was ‘82. The music wasn’t as “big”, and the whole show blew my mind. This tour was excellent, though.

The entire concert was so high quality. I remember seeing it for the first time in 2004 on a high definition disc player. I was so captivated the entire time. One of the best live performances that I have ever seen. Maybe the best. Of course I bought the cassette, the CD and the DVD. After 30 years it is still fresh and otherworldly

The language is Wolof, from Senegal. Peter's drummer Manu Katché is from there, as is also one of his long- time friends and collaborators Youssou N'dour (though they've done many songs together- try his "Shaking the tree"- Youssou was not on this tour). Gabriel performed Biko, about the murdered South African Stephen Biko (11 Dec 77) in about 1980 and again FOR Nelson Mandela at the 46664 Aids Concert in South Africa, 2003. Greetings from Canada- Peace and be safe.

@@david-arthur8166Well you are no doubt right about Papa Wemba (I knew he was Congolese but did not know he spoke Lingala). My answer was to the uploader's query as to what PG was speaking- which was indeed Wolof, before Papa took up the lead. Peace, love and hockey pucks.

I luv the African thing, wherein you can be singing a love song to your significant other but the same song can be you singing also to God. This song fits into that idea. You can sing this song in church without changing the lyrics, in my opinion. The older singer with the red cap is Papa Wemba. And some of the words you hear in the song, especially in the studio version which is on Peter Gabriels album 'So', some lyrics in Woloff sung by Youssou N Dour. God bless you, young lady.

The language is Wolof, which comes from Senegal, Mauritania, and the Gambia.
The line is: _Sa bet chi lamp, chi tangaay, sa bet maangi ci biir_
That translates roughly to same words from the English chorus: "In your eyes, I see the light and the heat."
The singer in the red kufi hat is Papa Wemba, who hails from the Congo.
The original recording of this had Yossou N'Dour of Senegal singing the Wolof part. He was not in this video. Youssou N'Dour ended up serving as the tourism minister of Senegal!
