Bruce “had a few hits in the 80’s” Has collaborated/toured with Bob Dylan, Elton, Don Henley, Huey Lewis, Michael McDonald, The Doobie Brothers, Sting, Clapton, Steve Winwood, Stevie Nicks, Bonnie, Mavis Staples, Jerry Garcia/The Grateful Dead, Willie Nelson, Ricky Skaggs, Branford Marsalis, nominated for 12 Grammy’s, put out 20 albums over 35 years and his prowess with both the keyboards and voice are better now than when he started, but yeah, he had a few hits in the 80’s…
Bonnie is my age, we’re past 70. BUT she just won another Grammy (2023 song of the year) for Just Like That. She’s one of my favorite singer/musicians, any decade, any genre. Thanks so much for reacting to her.
Bonnie Raitt(Rate) is a great blues singer and guitar player.Still going strong at 72.I just love her soul.Check out Nick Of Time ,or Have A Heart by her.
Awesome bud! There are a lot of great covers of this song, Teddy's version is awesome, Adele and even Boyz II Men covered it, but Bonnie - man, she puts something into the song that just is unlike anything else. In an interview she said that for the studio recording they did just one take because it was too sad and she couldn't get through a second take. It definitely hits deep - glad you liked it. Cheers.
You'll love her "Something To Talk About", "Angel From Montgomery", "Thing Called Love" and many more!!! She is known for her voice and slide guitar. Saw her in concert July 1990, and she was awesome!!
Thank You for reacting to the original. Bonnie is a force! You’ll have to do a beep dive! You’ll dig her blues and slide guitar playing. Nick of Time - Love Letter - Thing Called Love - Something to Talk About
the second pronunciation is correct (Ray-t) The song is about being in a relationship where only one side is in love, and she is trying to find the courage to say goodbye because it's the smart thing to do despite the pain. ❤ by the way, the genius that is Bruce Hornsby on the piano (That's Just the Way It Is)
My girl Bonnie..I followed her around in the 70's when she was doing college's until she did this song that got a crap ton of Grammys. She can rock it on the slide guitar! Her older songs I love..Angel from Montgomery..Give it up or let me go was my favorite! Also A thing called love and anything off her album Nick Of Time album..keep going you won't be disappointed ..Thanks ✌️
Lots of covers, but this will always be Bonnie's song. Bruce Hornsby on piano, brilliant. Her father, John Raitt, was a Broadway performer. You've got to hear her rock out on pedal steel guitar. The purity of her vocals is amazing.
I think you are playing the original video so that's the legendary pianist Bruce Hornsby accompanying the musical arrangement with Bonnie Raitt on guitar.
The other version with her playing with Bruce Hornsby is exceptional the maturity of time, loves found, and loves lost, and her voice is beyond compare...
The song was written from a newspaper article quote. The cops arrested a man for holding a gun to his girlfriend. He said "you could hold a gun to a woman but you can't make them love you" .. something like that.
Hi Blitz~! Nothing for me to add, it's all been well said ~! Except to say Bonnie is ONE of The Greats~! Very Special, Very Talented~! And I'm Glad You Got To Enjoy & Experience Her Unique Talent~! Love, Good Thoughts, Blessings~! Ciao~! Itia ~:-)
Bonnie said when she was doing a few takes on this tune, she couldn't finish, because she'd start crying. One of the writers of this song was a former Defensive Linemen for the Cincinnati Bengals, MIKE REID!
I've loved Bonnie Raitt since the 70s. She's so awesome. Incredibly talented guitarist who doesn't get the recognition she rightly deserves. When she finally won a Grammy for "Nick Of Time", I was thrilled!! I've seen her live 5 times, once with Bruce Hornsby, Jackson Browne and Shawn Colvin. Great concert!!!
One of the best to ever do it. Listen to "Angel from Montgomery" to be transported to an almost mystical place. Then check out "Love Letter" to hear sassy Bonnie.💙☮
With the awesome Bruce Hornsby playing back-up piano in this video. He has had his hits in his own right. Check out Bruce performing: "That's Just the Way it Is" and "Mandolin Rain".
This song will always haunt me. I’m 48 now and happily married with four children. Life is good. But it’s part of the human experience to be able to hear a song that immediately takes you back to another time, good or bad. For me, I was 17 years old and had fallen in love for the first time in my life. I bare no ill will towards her anymore whatsoever, but at that stage in our lives she always gave me just enough rope to hang myself as it were. I remember laying in my room in complete darkness listening to this song and being so numb from the heartache…yet something about the sadness in this song somehow comforted me in a way. You can absolutely feel it through her voice that she went through that same numbing heartache. Music can be so therapeutic and no matter how many years go by where we haven’t heard a particular song, it can always take us right back. It’s almost like time travel. Love this song. Love that this man was moved by it as well, I’ll be checking in again! Take care everyone and God bless.
The lyrics sound like a couple in a relationship where she loves him more than he loves her, but they have that one last night together, because she needs that before she "gives up the fight" as she realizes she can't make him love her . . . DEEP!
I loved this from the first time I heard it. What a pragmatic way to look at a breakup. No finger pointing or yelling, just quiet acceptance. Beautiful.❤
I'm a newbie here but would like to see your reaction to "Eva Cassidy - Somewhere Over The Rainbow". Enjoyed this ! Bonnie Raitt has been at it for a good long while. The first time I saw her was on "The Midnight Special" and she did an old tune named "Runaway". Sadly, Eva passed away from cancer a number of years ago. I think she was about 35 or 36.
And that's brother Bruce Hornsby on the piano! You can spot his style cuz it's like no other! Their live performance is also incredible! #kingdomreacts
others try to cover this, but Bonnie Raitt is the best. And Bruce Hornsby on the piano is so complimentary with her voice--he gets a lot out of a piano.
Raitt rhymes with "RAIN" but with a "T". Her father was Broadway star John Raitt. She quit Wellesley College to follow the blues. One of her mentors was Mississippi Fred McDowell. And she plays a fantastic electric slide guitar. Do a youtube search for more by her.
There is Bonnie Raitt's version and then there is everyone else. Swim's version is about vocalese. This is about a mature adult who has clearly been through something, while facing the truth in a failed relationship.
"I Can't Make You Love Me" is a song written by Mike Reid and Allen Shamblin and recorded by American singer Bonnie Raitt for her eleventh studio album, Luck of the Draw (1991).
Bonnie sings it like it's her own story...Incredible......Also give a listen to her 2023 Grammy "Best song" winner...."Just like that"....Bring tissues.
0:14 It's Bonnie Raitt ("rate"), rhymes with "great", which she is LOL Written by Mike Reid and Allen Shamblin, Bonnie recorded it for her 1991 album _Luck of the Draw,_ and it was the album's second single. She went on to win three Grammy Awards the next year: Best Female Rock Vocal Performance, for _Luck of the Draw;_ Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal, for "Good Man, Good Woman"; and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance, for "Something to Talk About". When she performed it live at the 34th Annual Grammy Awards (1992) with Bruce Hornsby on piano, you could hear a pin drop. At the end, she heaved a visible and audible sigh of relief for being able to get through it. Here is the Grammy performance, which was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2016: th-cam.com/video/MEDyODPnbE8/w-d-xo.html Here is the album version, which she recorded in one take, with Bruce's fantastic piano solo at the end: th-cam.com/video/_z2PAkOSJT0/w-d-xo.html Many people have covered it, like Boyz II Men, the late George Michael, Adele, and even Priyanka Chopra of all people), but nothing can top the original and the best version by Bonnie Raitt!
The song was inspired from an interview that a reporter did on a man who was living under a bridge in Nashville. His wife divorced him. He said to the reporter “I can’t make her love me.” Bruce Hornsby didn’t want to play it like Mike did on his demo of the song with him just singing and playing the piano. They kept asking Bruce to listen again to the demo. Hornsby said why don’t you just have him play it and walked out the door. Once he cooled down he came back in and got his part right.
George Micheals cover is great, but nothing will ever touch Bonnie's rendition. Prince called this song "Bonnie's masterpiece". And yes, her last name is pronounced "rate". This song went through MANY rewrites by the 2 guys working on it...for 6 months, then one suggested the other come upstairs- he added the piano along w/the written lyrics, and that was it, piano hit it off and they were done.
If we cannot be with the one we love, love the one you with!!!. I did, many years ago and it was unconventional but he loved me enough to surrender to what I could give, We were kids, but it still hits me in my adult hood.
Actually this was written by a man who was a professional NFL player whose name escapes me. So it was a man who was losing his gal. Bonnie does it head and shoulders above the others IMO.
This song hit me like a freight train when I was 22. It marks a change in my life. I’m 52 now and this song still hits me just as hard. Now I’ve experienced more yet wishing I could be back there and make different choices.
I believe it's John Hiatt on keys - she did a 'live' version with him - and I think he may be playing on this recording, too. In both instances - the arrangement was taken from the original arrangement by the writer - Mike Reid.
One of the greatest female rock & blues artist! 🔥🔥🔥
Right on!
@@Wordsmyth8 👍👍👍👍
Bruce Hornsby is playing piano on this song. He had a few hits in the 80's.
Bruce's piano skills are amazing....
He is an incredible pianist, even Elton John is an admirer
He's a legend
His piano has such a unique sound.

I was introduced to her music by my best friend in the late 70s. She is amazing. RIP James.
As a black 50 year old black man who loves all types of music, In my opinion Bonnie Raitt is the best singer I have ever heard.
Some will cover this song, but the original is pure gold. She owns it.
Bonnie Raitt(Rate) is a great blues singer and guitar player.Still going strong at 72.I just love her soul.Check out Nick Of Time ,or Have A Heart by her.
Her ENTIRE "Luck of the Draw" (1991) album is fantastic
People who've been around a bit know how good Bonnie Raitt is. Great singer, great guitarist, great performer

George Michael also covered this song beautifully.

Yeah, this is a great bluesy song from a fabulous singer about realizing it’s time you gotta let go.
This song came out my Senior yr..1992. BONNIE IS ONE OF THE BEST EVER!!! Her father was amazing as well.
the second pronunciation is correct (Ray-t)
The song is about being in a relationship where only one side is in love, and she is trying to find the courage to say goodbye because it's the smart thing to do despite the pain. ❤

Love'd this, thank you! Oh, and the Piano player is Bruce Hornsby - His massive hit was "That's Just the Way it Is".
Another great hit was "Mandolin rain"
All these years later, I’m finally realizing he’s playing in this song. He’s so talented.
2 legends!
Had a friend in the 90s who listened to this song over and over after a lost love. She did find love with another, the right one.
I think anyone who has gone through heartache and heartbreak of unrequited love knows this songs soul and feel.
Saw Bonnie in concert in 1988. She's awesome 🤗
She’s really a bluesy artist. She also plays a mean slide guitar.
She’s really a rocker! Check her rock playing the guitar.
My girl Bonnie..I followed her around in the 70's when she was doing college's until she did this song that got a crap ton of Grammys. She can rock it on the slide guitar!
