Could a mechanic swap the computer with a bad one while I had my car left for 5 hours to change wheel bearings, two new tires and oil change?
Payed 1,200 CAD and a week later EPC came and car went to limp mode. Car was perfect before.
Now they think it’s maybe throttle body or maybe worst...computer, that would cost me another 1,000 CAD.
They will break my bank account if I continue with them.
    Took the car from them.
Is it possible that they would replace a old computer with issues and take mine?
Car is Jetta 2012, 2.5L with 185,000 km.
Never had issues since I bought is two years ago.

The answer to your question depends on the specific programming task you are trying to perform on your GMC Acadia TCM (Transmission Control Module). In general, there are two main types of programming tasks that can be performed on a TCM: updating the software/firmware or modifying the configuration/calibration settings.
If you need to update the software/firmware of your TCM, you will likely need either an OEM tool or a J2534 device. An OEM tool is a specialized tool that is designed and manufactured by the vehicle manufacturer specifically for programming their vehicles. A J2534 device, on the other hand, is a universal tool that is capable of communicating with and programming a wide range of vehicles from different manufacturers, including GMC.
If you need to modify the configuration/calibration settings of your TCM, you may be able to do so using a generic OBD-II scanner that supports TCM programming. However, some advanced programming tasks may still require an OEM tool or a J2534 device.
It's worth noting that TCM programming can be a complex and potentially risky process, and it's important to have the necessary knowledge and experience to perform the task safely and effectively. If you're unsure about what tools or procedures are needed for your specific programming task, it's recommended to consult with a qualified automotive technician or professional.

@Best Car Fixes I don't understand why you are mentioning a TCM. I commented in reference to the VW ECM programming video. I'm good with gm programming thanks.
