  • NOTE: its not a fuse!!!! lol, working on a 2007 vw jetta with a 2.5l engine, customer complaint is that the veh will not start, the veh does crank, no engine light with the key on, cooling fans are on high, these are signs of an ecm that is not communicating, found that there is no communication with ecm using the scan tool and all the other modules have a networking fault ecm no comm stored, I hope you enjoy this video and thanks for watching.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! You saved me from totaling out my daughter's car. I'm so happy after watching your video. After going through the car top to bottom I followed your video step by step with limited amount of electrical testing tools. I tested 1,2,3,5,21,62. 62 - the red/black wire had only 3 volts running through it and as I moved the loom around it shut off completely.
My wiring loom was untouched. I started cutting it back, the wires looked perfectly clean but about a foot away you could tell the wires had been getting wet and there was dirt mixed in.
Then a saw an area of green corrosion that led me to the point that the wire was broken. I didn't actually see a break in the wire but it was definitely corroded inside the wire coating.

I am always suspicious when I see electrical tape. It typically means someone has been hacking into wires, usually cutting them an inch from a connector just to make them hard to repair properly.
    Good job on the diagnoses!

I suggest doing a capacitive discharge of the car battery before changing out parts. Disconnect both battery terminals, starting with the ground - (negative), connect both connection leads with a jumper wire for at 1 minute. Reconnect both battery terminals, hopefully that helps.

  • @jamesrossmotors
    @jamesrossmotors 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nice video Tommy.
I am curious to know if this CAN signal distortion is a VW only issue when a power supply is lost or whether or not it is the same for other manufacturers.
In your other video with Danner you went back and questioned the resistance of the TCM CAN lines and was curious. This led you to look further. I am not sure that an issue inside the module would pull the reading up or down since the TCM did not have one of the 120 resistors inside itthat returns the 60K value. I think your logic to question replacing the TCM was good but am still not sure that even if the TCM was at fault that you would have seen a different value as the testing is all done powered down and all these lines carry are messages.
Still a great catch none the less.
Maybe we will have to wait until a faulty module is found and check the CAN resistance then to know for sure what goes on.
    Thanks for the video

I have an 08 Wolfsburg that shut off during a snow storm. A few other mechanics did a few tune up things and now it has a misfire from hell and about 30 codes (all low voltage or implausible values) found an aftermarket alarm/ amplifier cluster F that had shorted and took out the ecm fuse also killed the lift pump and burned up the hpfp, a air temp sensor wires were dead shorted, and the 12v feed to a module under the steering wheel was shorted. After removal and repairs it still has a ton of codes and misfires. I think I have a hidden short or the ECM is cooked. Idk but I've tested every relay fuse and connector to do with the motor and they are good.

Have found evidence of the wiper motor arms coming in contact with that wire bundle connection the ECM on a 2005. Also found evidence of moisture inside the ECM. On this car I found the drain holes were stopped up by leaves in the area under the ECM that caused snow and water to cover the ECM wires. Could be the reason VW changed the ECM location on the MK6 cars.

great video! I have a problem with an '07 jetta 2.5. has me pretty stumped. throwing codes for AAT (IAT) sensor high voltage, and ECT high voltage. Ref voltage is good, sensors both read fine. Seems to only set the codes on start up. Car runs great and I can clear codes while running and they never come back, can shut off after clear and key back on and no codes. Only set when car starts up. Any ideas where to go next?

Hi! I have the identical problem but when I probe the last positive wire like you did I get the exact symptoms! But when I took the tape off the wires seem ok. I am curious- could the ecu be faulty if the wires are good? I'm thinking it's that wire- there was a mouse nest on it. But no damage to the wires. Ecu fail?

After many days of fighting the same thing on a 2010 VW Jetta 2.5, and replaced cam sensor , crank position sensor, battery, clock spring, and many other problems , car would continue to shut off while driving. Pulled ECM OUT , while connected and shook wire harness , car shut off, and it was wire 62 corroded in the bundle. Why is this not a recall? Thank you soo much for this video.

Hey guys! So I am getting nearly the same problem as in this video; except my check engine light is on, and I get three distinct beeps when the ignition is switched on, indicating low oil or oil pressure but oil levels are fine; the car cranks but no start and no spark(battery, plugs and coil all fine) I am getting ECM code 01314 on my transmission, brake electronics, Airco and instrument cluster, any thoughts?! Thanks!
