Good luck, the only thing crooked contractors are good at is scamming. More than likely he was doing work under an LLC which I believes means OP can only sue the "business" and not the man. It's shady as fuck but sometimes it's easier just to take the loss, the scammers know this which is why they get away with it for so long.

@@darkmask5933 I feel like at the very least it's worth pursuing just to have the legal documentation to prove his current housing situation is not his fault. It kinda sounds like OP's ex wouldn't hesitate to fuck him over either, and being homeless could easily lose him custody of his kids. But I'm sure his ex would have a harder time proving he's an unfit parent if OP can prove that his financial/housing troubles are a direct result of the contractor's actions. I'm sure the judge would at least allow unsupervised visitation until he gets everything sorted out and can properly provide a safe home for his kids again

@@darkmask5933even then if he gets a judgment and he doesn’t pay cant OP basically get a lien from the judge on the business or even be able to repo the businesses “tools” as payment. Story 4: OP’s husband saw an opportunity to do something spontaneous and slightly extravagant, which they both knew they could easily afford. Maybe he saw her in the earrings and thought, “man, I love that woman!”

I’ve got a similar story to the ice skating story. I met my boyfriend through Tinder. He worked as an assistant coach to a junior hockey team (16-20 year olds) and invited me to the game. I had a great time and loved it. It was my first game. Then after it was over, he invited me to go skating with him at the rink. I was so excited and also nervous because I’d never been skating before. He helped me put on my skates and we started to walk to the rink. Well, my Cerebral Palsy was a bitch and I could barely walk. My left ankle buckled so much because my balance was shit. Didn’t even make it onto the ice before I had to take them off. I apologized profusely because I was so embarrassed and he just kissed my forehead and told me that it was fine. I then explained to him other challenges (I also have Hydrocephalus) and he was more than accepting. I’d been rejected before because of that and my scars, and I was terrified he’d do the same. To my surprise, he didn’t. He played hockey and said that to him, scars were a badge of honor.
We’ve been together for 3 years now and I love him so much.

For the last story, I hope the OP watches then reads comments. When I was in my first year of college, I was asked out by a girl who lived in the dorm room next door to a friend of mine. We decided to go bowling in the next town over, the school was in a small town. On the small two-lane road between towns, I was following a full-size van and talking with my date when the jerk in the van decided that the best course of action to deal with a car waiting to turn left was to dive onto the shoulder and pass illegally, never touching his brakes. When I realized that there was now a car stopped in the lane, I was still travelling at 55-60 mph. I too, tried to follow the van onto the shoulder to avoid the car but ended up clipping his rear bumper. The 70s Dodge Tank I hit only broke its turn signal cover from the bumper, but it tore up my Ford Probe's front bumper and even popped the oil fill cap from the valve cover. No one was hurt and I was able to screw the cap back on and secure the hood down and drive us back to her dorm where she sweetly consoled me over how things went. We dated for three years, to the day, when we got married on our third anniversary of dating. We now have three beautiful children and have been married since 2000.
It's really easy to take someone's measure by how they behave in challenging circumstances.
