Story 1: How would he ever be the jerk in this situation? She left willingly after disagreements, had hidden the deeds of the house (most likely theft/destruction of legal documents, a crime itself), and called the cops under false pretenses to gain entry into a property she did not own. I love it when seniors use their time and sense of humor to give jerks a bit of payback.
I noticed that there are two main groups of elderly you encounter, one is the "back in the days it was better" and "the youth is lazy" kind, the other is the exact opposite. The fun and intelligent once that have more than enough free time to make jerks get what they deserve.
The kind of grandma that see that a cashier is a pain to their coworkers and decide to come 15 times to the store, each time only buying a single carrot, and then paying to the cent (which obviously takes ages, since they are old and can't see well) to waste the jerk's time.

The story of the sisters caring for their grandmother hit a nerve. My dad was having issues and died when i was in high-school. Im the oldest of 3, so i helped care for my siblings and helped him for years. Im in therapy now for things that happened before he passed. Helped with his medical issues, helped care for my siblings, youngest brother has autism... it was a lot. Ive struggled to come to terms with the fact that i will never know why he let this fall on me. There are somethings i understand he couldnt do anything about... but at some point he just gave up. This guy has no idea the kind of stress and trauma that comes from these situations.

Yea what I thought also, I’m sorry you had to have a burden like that at such a young age. taking care of a bed ridden person is a full time job and potentially soul killing for the care giver. I don’t see how OP’s sister could have done well in school with such a burden. You need time to mentally and physically recover from that kind of long term care giving.

My mom had keys to a house I was renting. I had been buying things for myself to set up housekeeping. She came in and saw I had 2 sets of new glasses and new, very nice flatware with all the extra things like a gravy ladle and desert server. She took them and replaced my nice glassware with jelly jar glasses and old silverware that was a jumble of silver plate and stainless. She was actually angry I had bought nice things and had not offered them to her and accepted her old things because that’s how children treat their parents “. I reminded her of how when she got married she had gotten a house full of things like living and bedroom furniture, silverware, dishes and glassware. My grandparents had to find money and totally refurnish their house in a 2 month period . Never saw that flatware or those glasses ever again.

Motivation is one of the biggest parts about studying and if someone cant be fucked to care ofc they're going to fail, doesn't have to mean anything about talent or potential, just the lack of motivation to do a certain thing.

Not to mention they were still teenagers. My mom got a rare auto-immune disease when I was fourteen, and it took away my childhood. She became cruel and vindictive. And to this day, I don't think I could ever forgive her for taking that from me and treating me badly for being tired of how she treated me because of it. I flunked my classes because I was CONSTANTLY taking care of her and my mentally handicapped sister. I have a feeling that that's why (I think it was) Kensi was having so much trouble in school.

I can also sympathize with the sisters, I gave up ten years of my life basically fresh out of high school to take care of her. I don’t regret it nor do I blame her, she couldn’t help her illnesses nor that we had such little family to fall back
On, and she was the one who raised me when my mom died… but I was set back by it greatly, and no one who hasn’t been in that position of having to care for someone all the time can understand the burn out physically and mentally it can take on a person. Even more so when you love that person and remembered how they used to be like before their physical and mental illnesses set in so badly… to watch a woman who used to scrub the baseboards not even want to get a shower or rinse a cup. It breaks something in you. I feel for these guys and hope things go better for them in their lives going forward and that they can slowly get some normalcy and successes in their corners.

I'm kinda on the fence about that one, we are human beings and seeing beauty in others isn't wrong, it's human. Just because you think someone is pretty or beautiful doesn't mean you will act on it and cheat on your partner. It also doesn't mean you don't think you're wife or husband is ugly either.
I suppose it depends on the type of relationship you have and how close you are and if you're comfortable enough to trust your partner.
The part I do have a problem with is how he compared them to an art piece as if they were objects which felt kinda misogynistic.
That's crossing a line, if I had a son I would 100% be disappointed in him for that type of thinking.

She says her MIL is nosy? OP is a Nosy Parker herself! She was listening in to her husband's conversation. He had nothing to do with the prank, but he thought it was funny, because it is funny. And I'll bet dollars to doughnuts that OP is also a SAHM, who didn't didn't buy that bed. Yet, Queen Nosy Parker, who has crowned herself the Arbiter of Cultivated Behavior has decided that she has the right to make her husband sleep on the sofa. Her FIL is the one, who made the remark that was a back-handed slight about her looks. I feel sorry for OP's husband. He could definitely do better. Looks are not everything--clearly, as the two beautiful ladies in the photo are evidence. Most men would rather have a wife who is just average in looks but has a great sense of humor and is pleasant and kind, rather than a looker, who is a sour puss with a faux sense of decorum. OP has neither looks, nor a sense of humor.

This brother sounds like a bit of an asshole. It seems like it would be no skin off his back to let mom in with him (unless there's an issue with her behavior), but instead he'd rather inconvenience the both of you. smh. You're clearly busting your ass to make ends meet and simply cannot accommodate your mother regardless of whether you love her or hate her.
If you could both be nearby with accommodations to suit 2 or more people, that's a different matter where personal feelings can be the deciding factor (something the 3 of you should discuss regardless). But that's sadly not the case. The fact that your brother is more financially successful is reason for him compromise for this responsibility, not an excuse to dump an impossible burden on you.
Don't think of yourself as a lesser person just because some family member happens to be wealthier than you, and don't be afraid to stand your ground and lay out the facts to him, or even take legal action if absolutely necessary!

That doesn't entitle her to rule your life and take your things. The rest of your family needs to take a step back and realize that you are an individual with your own life and set of boundaries. If they can't come to terms with this, perhaps they shouldn't be your family. The police filed charges against your mother because of an illegal act that she committed, not you. You don't owe her any support for breaking the law. Your family is basically telling you to lie about what she did. Oh, hellz no! Again, perhaps you should rethink keeping them as part of YOUR family. You'd be much better off without all their drama.

The second to last story: In what world is it acceptable to force two teenagers into the position of being the sole carers to a potentially abusive elderly person with high-risk care needs? OP was an adult (30's) and was power of attorney yet did nothing to actually help with the care of the grandmother, nor did he help his much younger sisters (16 year age gap between OP and the elder of the two girls and a 20 year age gap with the youngest) in their care. They were children taking care of a rapidly aging person on their own for crying out loud! They were in their early teens when they begged their 30+ year old brother to put the grandmother in a nursing home because they no doubt couldn't take care of her properly nor live their own lives (which they were entitled to!) and he just flat out refused to do so and expected them to continue doing everything, all because he didn't want to cover the financial cost. He didn't live in the same state as them, had no idea what this elderly woman's mental decline was like, nor if she had started being physically and verbally abusive to his child sisters, and on top of that he expected them to take on all the emotional and physical burden of being untrained carers, take care of all the housework, and all the cooking, plus somewhere in there keep up with their school work? At what point were they meant to have the opportunity to excel in their academic careers? Let alone at what point were they given the space to grow as teenagers? When were they meant to learn the basic emotional and mental milestones teenagers go through? Between cleaning up grandma's bathroom accidents? or getting into disagreements about her having to take her medications on time? About them having to basically bully her into eating something more substantial because all she'd eaten for two days running was half a sandwich and a cup of tea/coffee? He was 30 and he did nothing to protect or take care of any of them, especially his kid sisters. Yes, they probably did go through burnout, and they probably are bitter at their childhood being robbed from them, and they probably are emotionally stunted due to all they've gone through - because again, he did nothing to help them! They aren't his kids, but they are his much younger siblings and he abandoned them just the same as their parents did, and just the same as their older sister did. OP is the asshole for so many reasons, but one of the worst now is that he is an asshole being he continues to invalidate everything they say and actively denies their lived truth. They were the grandmother's carers, not him, yet he refuses to believe that what they went through was hard. He's a terrible big brother, and should never have been given power of attorney for the grandmother because he clearly didn't care about her enough to ensure she had appropriately trained adults taking care of her needs.

My much older and very well off half brother (different mother) washed his hands of us the moment my dad died (except of course to demand my mother pay nearly all of her meager SS as rent to continue living in the house that had been her home for almost 20 years at that point). And my sister had refused contact with our mother for decades at that point (understandably so). But that put ALL the pressure and responsibility on me, the youngest, least mentally or financially stable (so much debt, and taking out even more to cover mom's bills too...), with a full-time AND part-time job... All while caring for her physical and mental needs with no training. After the cancer hit hard and fast, it took years of therapy for me to come to terms with my feelings of guilt for the absolute relief that it was finally over completely overshadowing the grief of her passing...
Having to do that as a CHILD? He's somehow an even bigger AH than my half-brother

@@mikoamaya134 What you and OP's younger sisters went through is horrendous. For the family to turn their back when you're actively asking for help. Your brother and sister didn't have to like your mother (especially due to her abuse prior to her mental decline), but it wouldn't have hurt them to put their feelings for you their baby sister, and your wellbeing at the forefront and help you when you needed them.
I don't think it's selfish or that it makes you a terrible person to feel a great flood of relief when a situation or person that had been causing you tremendous stress, and anxiety, and was at the detriment of your mental health has suddenly lessened or gone altogether. The situation and person were causing you and those two (now) women mental, physical, and emotional turmoil. Also, isn't it kinder that time came for both people who were probably in a great deal of discomfort or pain?
You did something not everyone in this world could do, and you should be proud of that fact. Although she may not have been the most pleasant person to you, you put your life on hold to care for someone else. It's a thankless job in many respects, but I genuinely hope that life showers you and all the other people who put their lives on hold to be unpaid carers of terminally unwell family members with the good karma you all deserve.

Story 6: no he wasn't literally he said the sisters were whatever to him before all i know was mean why couldn't they pay for it plus if she flunked in community college she would have no chance in her dream one where you have to actually be a lot better the community college so really that one I think he's not the jerk and your just not looking into the story properly

I thought that the sisters went to him saying how they want to put grandma in a home?🤔
So that the sisters can live their life (like OP has), and then OP was like no. So maybe the sisters thought since OP isn't able to help them financially and they don't have finances of their own, they just have to continue to look after her.
And I'm guessing the reason why OPs sister Flunked college right away because of being a caregiver for an older person plus going to school full-time it ways on you a lot. OP didn't have to physically take care of the grandma like his siblings. So in a way OP is a kinda a jerk.

I personally think that in story 5, the husband's comment about the wives looking beautiful was supposed to be a joke rather than an actual "Wow they are so hot," however, I, nor anyone else, can read the tone of voice from a reddit post recounting what someone said, nor do we know the husband's personality that much. I personally think the father in law is the worst one in this situation. I also believe that the wife should have made this an actual conversation rather than just get angry without any conversation at all. I also would like to believe the prank was to get the wives to kind of realize that their feud is kind of dumb after the argument is made fun of but idk I'm kinda dumb.

this video is really entertaining and well put together! your storytelling skills are top-notch. that said, i can't help but think that some people just take things way too far. calling the cops over something like this seems a bit extreme, don’t you think? it's kinda sad how entitlement can lead to such ridiculous situations.
