Many people cite Wolfenstein, Killzone, and Fallout NV, but the origin of their designs is the protective gear in this film. To be precise, it is Mamoru Oshii's 1987 film "Red Spectacles"

The song fits perfectly with the movie especially with the line "Maybe then I'll fade away and not have to face the facts. It's not easy facing up when your whole world is black." This line represents the main character so incredibly with him eventually choosing to become a mindless cog in the machine that does not question orders and acts blind to his actions. Jin roh is a master piece. The song fits perfectly with how the wolf and redhood are doom.
Between this series, Killzone, and Doom, my perception of a heroic figure has been permanently damaged.
a true hero is nothing more than a monster with a just cause
Doomguy is totally in the right. He's literally fighting demons from Hell. If you're worried about morality when a guy is killing demons just because "uwu it's so violent!" you need to get your head checked if you're sympathizing for demons.
Not sure about doom
Doomguy is the embodiment of a heroic figure. He refused orders to fire on civilians which got him sent to Mars. He then sacrificed any chance of returning to a normal life to fight the demons forever.
He is the Doom for demons, not for humanity.

They're Japanese in the movie. They just have German gear, because Weimar Germany occupied Japan in the Kerberos Panzer Cops timeline.
Edit, correction: While they are referred to as "The Weimar Establishment," they are not the same Weimar government that controlled Germany during the interwar period; rather, they are the result of a successful coup and assassination of Hitler by Claus von Stauffenberg, which would go on to develop nuclear weapons (America is neutral due to Japan, an allied power, never attacking Pearl Harbor) and defeat the allies. The Protect Gear (body armor) seen in this video was used to great effect at the Battle of Stalingrad, leading to its adoption by police units such as the Special Armed Garrison ("Kerberos Unit") of post-war Japan.
