No Start Kawasaki Bayou 300 Mystery, What Went Wrong?

- Bought this 2001 Kawasaki Bayou 300 for $375 last week. I was told that it had an ignition issue and would not start. Set it up with the portable CDI box and a PZ27 carburetor and it still would not start. Compression seemed a little low, and it did not sound quite right when attempting to start it. Found that whomever timed the cam last used the wrong timing marks. For the next video, we will retime it and get it running!
This is why I watch! I can repeat what I've learned from others but not do an in depth diagnosis. Keep them rolling Harvey

As always a good video. I like the way you explain every step of the process. I'm dealing with a cam, valve problem. The camshaft will turn a quarter rotation before it makes contact with the rocker. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Have same issue , can start it up after holding starter ingsuged for a min or two , gets faster till it’s finally running

Hey on that seat repair maybe at the final coat put wax paper or sarran wrap on to give you a smooth finish after.

Funny you brought brakes up Harvey. Was In emergency 3 weeks ago for completely crushing 1/3 of my leg with the peg of my atc 200. Used my leg as a brake :( haha but it's all good, got new shoes on order.

@@HarveySpooner forgot to mention thank you for another education video, and thanks for the kind words :) it sucked haha but it's hard to get on the ATC statistics lists nowadays... so I got that going for me haha
Valves will be fine, you can fix this quickly by removing, the tensioner and the camshaft nut rotating valves 180 degrees and putting them back. This is easy enough and shouldn't take longer than 1 hour. This is a common problem when the engine is rebuilt.
I put wd 40 on where the spark plug goes to unstuck the rings and I got my compression back

I have a kvf360 prairie. 2003. It kind of does the same thing. It kind of burps out the carb and it will occasionally backfire at exhaust. New carb, good spark. Any suggestions? Start with valve adjustment and compression check?

Did you rebuild the motor or just part it out? Not too expensive, a big plus.
Even before I see it, there are 3 types, no stretch without plenty of heat, 2 way stretch[ say north and south] and 4 way stretch[ limber like a gymnast] so with this knowledge you can better describe what you have. What a normal piece of material would measure 36in x54in, I just bought a triple section of no stretch for $20.91 at the Walmart. Later

I’m thinking about buying one of these in a couple of days and the guy told me it’s noise and all it needs is a head gasket now I’m thinking it needs more than that after watching your video haven’t even seen it by an on-site not seen what’s your thoughts I think it’s a 225 I think that’s what the guy told me on the phone do you want to 350 for it I got it down to 250
I think since it is 180 out that you are okay. 👍👍

Oh Mr Harvey a kaw ! It'll run take that tensioner off and cam bolt roll her around to its marks put tensioner back on you'll be in time just don't move crank good luck sir
Hey Bud... Interesting.... I was going to put the cam in the right position, pull the chain tensioner and cam bolt, spin the crank to TDC. then hop the cam sprocket to the right place.... Then, put it all back together..... The trick is to not drop the chain!!! Thanks for Ur thoughts and advice on that.... Thanks also for watching and commenting!!
@@HarveySpooner yea I didn't mention you know taking chain off sprocket just tie wire to chain hang it over head side so it doesn't fall in ( but if it did real easy to pull back up with long magnet) put sprocket back on cam semi tighten bolt roll sprocket to timing marks on cam ( may have to loosen rockekers but I can usually roll them around under spring tension ) then take sprocket back off put chain on bolt her back to cam you should be in time just don't turn crank shaft till your done ( like most things more than one way to do it and still get same results that's just how I do it thanks sir keep up the great work sir!!!!!
How long can I run an atv on one of your cdi units with the double A batteries

The way I use them, intermittently, they seem to last around a year with good alkaline batteries, if one is idling along, that would last a day or 2, figure around 10-12 hours....If one is romping it, running it up toward red line.... 4hrs or so.... Hold on your on top of exaust stroke!!! Not compression right???. I just went thru same thing take crank another 180 and 300lf will lineup???
