- To make more power while staying NA, the flow of air going to and from the engine needs to be optimized. Most auto manufacturers produce cars to work well, however they are okay with having an adequate final inspection. That somewhat poor quality control means there are many aspects of the car that can be improved on without reinventing the wheel. In a previous video, I removed the imperfections and casting marks from the upper and lower intake manifolds on my 370Z ( • How to Make FREE Horse... ). Arm chair analysis: smooth ports promote flow therefore air velocity...rough ports promote turbulence... turbulence is good for fuel mixture. So it's a matter of determining what engine likes what more...in this case we got fuel injectors so I think the whole mixing might not be as important

Great explanation, great view of the bay/ area being worked on. I was a bit iffy about installing these myself but after watching this I have no doubt I'll knock it out in no time.
This job reminds me a lot of when I rebuild my 2/4 stroke dirtbike engines. Especially laying the new gaskets and torquing the bottom and top ends together. The small details are clutch for the proper fit and no coolant leaks! This video was done amazing. Thank you for sharing man. Most z owners are people I would not wanna sit and watch for 15 minutes on youtube...

You are better off getting a 3" intake and bigger throttle body's on the plastic intake models. The Japanese are very smart and knew what they were doing when that designed the smaller ports due to Bernoulli's principle. Also a quality exhaust is a huge plus on Z's and the G's

Another great video milan. The way you instruct gives me confidence to do the bigger projects. With ported manifolds, i would be thinking of forced induction of some kind - it just seems to make sense! If not, bigger cams perhaps - either way you have done an awesome job on the z.
Awesome video the upper intake and lower intake ported nice the one thing to help it breath better upgrade the throttle to bigger size and port the heads and port the exhaust as well and upgrade the intake valves to go with the ported heads on the cold side and hot side

Great content. I'm doing mine now but I have a question re lower intake to head gasket. The gasket can be installed with the ports on the gasket either tapering in or out. Which way did you do it? Really don't want to do it the wrong way.

motorvateDIY has an awesome video series on this process, worked perfeclt on my G and its idle is pretty good now.
On the lower intake manifold, did you have to put and kind of gasket maker to hold the gaskets in place? Or do you just clean the old ones off the surface and lay the new ones in place.

On NA cars ported cylinder heades and bigger injectors are pretty much evrything that can make huge difference.
Would sand blasting it be a good idea? Like it won’t mess up the size of the holes when the head gaskets are replaced?

question: as pertaining to removing the upper intake manifold...there are two nuts that hold the manifold down once removed and the rear end of the manifold is stuck on the rear bolt...after the nut is removed how do I get it loose...and not damage the plastic manifold..thanks
Question. Why did you open the lines if it’s already attached to the throttle body?
Hey Milan, bolts are NOT measured by head size but by THREAD size. Head sizes can be different for the same thread size. IE 10mm thread size could have a 14 or maybe 15mm head size.
I hope you measured the head ports. While this may help slightly and I mean slightly .... no point in more air coming in if the actual head ports are smaller and basically creates a bottle neck effect.
Was this properly ported? I’ve heard over gapping the manifolds causes turbulence thus losing power

This is a good mod on the vq35de as well. If you take the time and do it right. Research it. You can find a lot of info and pics of ways people have tried if you are willing to google a lot.
Also something else to look at is the performance shops and their ported parts to base your port job on.

Lol what's the link to that ending instrumental? After installing them does it require a tune asap?
If you have the funds to get a tune, I would defs get one after changing any engine related part. To prevent wasting an excessive amount of money on multiple tunes, try to play out when you're modding your car so you can get one tune with every part installed.
I been having problems with my G35 VQ35HR, my coolant is consume to fast and my car have a stall episode, I check for leaks and nothing is posible the manifold gasket have a leak or so, this can be a solution? No leaks anywhere in the visual inspection and this is the last chance 👀
Did you install all new gaskets for the upper plenum , lower manifold and the TBs?
I replaced the plenum gaskets, but if yours are in good condition, I suspect you can reuse them.
Love the video and the project. Props to all of us DIY guys. Question though: doing it manually at home by hand... my concern is that you'd end up with slightly different sized ports just due to human error and "eye-balling it". I wonder if there is any way to measure each port to make sure they're as close to identical as possible?

Bro don't use gas as a lubricant for the fuel injector o-rings. Just put a little spit on them glides right in no snags and no worries about premature o-ring failure.
Interesting video, however most tuning specialists I've heard of usually re-profile the intake and exhaust camshaft to accompany gas flowing (porting) the intake manifolds.
Otherwise even after a "tune" the gains are minimal.
I didn't make any power with upper and lower ported manifolds, dyno proven unfortunately. I went with a knock off company lol. Even with a tune it made no power. Maybe it depends on who does the porting and if it's done right? The upper and lower manifold should be port matched with one another. NoTrigga and z1 are the best on the market.

What's the total labor hours for both the upper and lower plenums? I'd like to buy the parts from Z1 and have my mechanic install them.
According to Z1 site, 30 mins for the upper, up to 2 hrs for the lower.
Who makes the black upper strut tower brace?
Way too much work for 4 HP hahaha. Thought you need upgraded throttle bodies (enlarged) and 3inch intake pipes to get benefit from porting ?
Welcome to the world of NA tuning. He also has post maf tubes that make 1-2hp
Any mod for this car is pretty much useless unless you go with a super charger or turbo
The amount of money you will spend for bolt ons can be used for forced induction
I only have test pipes and long tube intake installed then called it a day...left the nismo stock exhaust alone

I changed mine this morning on my G37x, car worked fine for about 3 hours but went into limp mode & shut off. Tried to start it but would not start only the fan would come on.. You have any idea what it could be??

Yes, same exact motor as the g37. Only the 370z will have the strut cross bar.

After you install your long tube intakes, you next should consider installing a dual PCV oil catch can system.

You’re looking at an average of +35whp with just the intakes and tune.

@@Cheeseypoofs85 I guess I worded that incorrectly. It was at max timing already, 3in intakes made 3 whp over the factory timing with both tunes maxed out. There's actually a video comparison on here somewhere that shows exactly what I found out on the dyno.

El que a hecho esto que el chico explica sabe que cuando el haga el porteo no puede salir para la calle debe ir hacer un tuning lo mas antes posible ya que el carro esta entrandole mas cantidad de aire que de gasolina seria estupido que el diga que el carro camina mucho mejor eso es para mentirles a ustedes a mi no me dira mentira ya soy biejo en este deporte 💪🏻💨
