Lovely fish. Are these essentially the same brown trout as the smaller ones we catch in rivers? The ones in the rivers seem to have more red dots on them.
Yes same fish although there are 4 different variations of brown trout in this lake, all look a bit different than the next, some are silver bars, others have golden belly’s, some have red spots, some have different scales. Really interesting.
Thank you , yes it can be a crazy lake . I started on Derg at 6 years of age, I’m 27 now, so over 20 years of experience fishing on it now, super lucky to have grown up on it. Wouldn’t swap it for anything. 👌
Sometimes it happens no matter what, I use a single original bb swivel, the trick is to constantly have tention, if one rod goes , get that fish in before the other line goes slack, that slack second rod causes the problems . Tention at all times helps , never let the lure go slack when the boat stops either, never used a anti kink vane in my life hate the idea of them, trout have savage vision
Hey lad. How you fixed for a days fishing on lough derg. I typically fish corrib but it's a fair distance away from me. Where as derg is only an hour. If guiding is something you do then let me know.
Thanks William ya roughly 20ft, I didn’t go near the deep water in this session, will give it a go in the next week, no doubt they will be out there also 👌🎣
Hi Anything from 10ft up too 100ft, depending on the time of year and what the trout are feeding on ✌️they can be out in the open on some days, some days they will be close to the shoreline, structure matters a lot also.
@@senanstanleyfishing Would The Trout come up and take the lures in deeper water even if your lures arent too deep?Im heading away to a deep lake down here in kerry and im just trying to get a idea of where to troll for them.
Yes bud absolutely, the trout will feed up close to the surface even in 100ft of water. My lane minnow only goes 2ft deep and catches fish. Try the rapala countdowns down in Kerry 👌

What would you find the easier fish to catch on the lake trout or the pike ?
Pike are much easier
yessss by
🔥🔥🔥
I'm fishing derg all my life .I know how moody it can be . your some angler for a young man

Do you have a link for the rods and reels
How do you avoid line twist with minnows, I use 2x ball bearing swivels and still get bad twist? Is an anti kink vane the way to go?

Fine bar gold
Nice one Larry
I wonder if they have a similar.action in the water to the Tassie devil
It’s the exact same lure bud
@@senanstanleyfishing aren't the wings completely different?
There’s a larger and smaller version of them :) they swing in the water 🎣
Wigstons tassie devil lure is the name of these ones
