    What kind of rods are you jigging with or what would you recommend? I've done this a few times but been useing my 6ft walleye rods I feel like a 7-7.5ft would be better.

      I actually prefer a 6’6” to 6’8” medium heavy rod for vertical jigging. Heavy if I’m using baits over 2oz.

    I've been fishing Lake of The Woods in Ontario for 20 years and never fished for Lakers. next summer that will be my goal. We have no trouble finding bass, Walleyes or Pike. but just don't know enough about Lakers to find them. What should I look for to find them. Don't have much as far as electronics just a basic Garmin. We had a great trip a couple weeks ago and fed the family.

      Look for 2 things: bait balls in open water and once you find the bait, look for bigger arches around those bait balls. Those are likely lake trout. If you can get a jig to them while they are still on the sonar that is best but be sure to drop down even if they disappear.

      @@calebwistad Thanks for the help. I have a year to learn before we go back up. I'm just a Florida Boy so I don't have much time to practice. Hey but you have to start somewhere.

    Awesome video! When jigging, what's the weight on your lures/jigs?

    • @calebwistad
      @calebwistad  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! I like to use anywhere from 3/4 oz to 3oz depending on the current, size of bait, and depth. Obviously you can get away with less weight when it’s shallower and there is less current but you might need 2+ oz at times. The particular jig I used in the video was 1oz.

    Witch billy rub scent do you use ? And for brook trout witch one doyou suggest ? Do you ship to Quebec Canada ?

    • @calebwistad
      @calebwistad  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I love the Cisco and alewife scents. For brook trout nightcrawler is my favorite. As far as shipping, you would have to check with Billy Rub.

    What thickness of fluorocarbon do you use for lake trout leaders?

    • @calebwistad
      @calebwistad  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

    how did you find the lake trout to jig for them, did you use a fish finder to find them?

    • @calebwistad
      @calebwistad  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We look for structure first and then usually fish it to see if we can get any to follow.

    I always heard you couldn’t release lakers caught in over 100 feet of water??

    • @calebwistad
      @calebwistad  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Not true. Lake trout are one of the very few fish that can expel air from their swim bladder as they move towards the surface, thus equalizing the pressure in their system as they come up. Most fish cannot do this and suffer severe barotrauma when pulled from deep water but lakers are very uniquely equipped for quick depth changes.
