already have caught a 30# Blue Cat off of these (going to try to get a 60#+ next year). th-cam.com/users/postUgkxzXmlErSqVAEGWFEKO530BvTqFDw53QW3 Definitely very strong, and sharp. Additionally, the gap is wide enough to actually hook a fish (not always the case with circle hooks). I purchased the 8/0, but probably should have got the 9/0 (they seem slightly smaller than other 8/0 hooks). Additionally, having the point in-line helps if you drift fish. I have yet to get a serious snag with one of these hooks.
When the dolphins around pause the fishing for a while. But the dolphin attack was an epic moment. Thanks for the video. Greetings from the Med coast TURKEY
wet your hands brother, that way you dont remove to much of the protective slime , dry hands are like sand paper.they will live longer the less you touch them..... just some tips from down south... Durban South Africa...
Loved this video, especially the dolphin! It's good to see that even the pros don't catch everything every time, but reading the water and adjusting your tackle is really helpful.
here's a tip for trimming tag ends on hooks, lures, etc. use an inexpensive set of fingernail clippers and attach it to a string and wear it like a necklace. That way a person can trim most any line and the clippers are always at the ready. no more fumbling for scissors and not chip your teeth on heavy line
Hey Skipper awesome video. Have you tried slide baiting keeps the fish under the water and prevents birds from stealing your bait. I would suggest Aussie Slides fish can't swim back up the anchored line. Also snail your circle hook the fish will set the hook when they take your bait. Also here's another tip with keeping fish alive drill holes in a bucket and let the bucket drift in the water attached to a rope. When you need bait you just pull the bucket out pop the lid and drop it back down. Plus with aerators you have to change the water constantly just to keep the fish alive. Anyways be safe, Mahalo for the Videos🤙
Man I wish I would have known you were in my neck of the woods I'd have called out of work to fish with you guys and thonny. Add so aquarium stress coat to your bait bucket to help your bait live longer
Yoooo awesome brotha! So happy you linked up with Thonny! He's an amazing fisherman from that area...I subbed him years ago...I've learned a lot from the dude...Bushi I don't know but I subbed him as well. I'm happy you and Erin had a great experience on that pier...tough luck on the Groupers but man the macks were on attack mode. I can't believe you guys threw them back...macks are delicious fish to eat...have lots of Omega3s. Yeah and great advice on situations even dolphins showing up...they're always a nuisance using live bait scaring fish away. Oh and advice keeping baits alive...if you have enough ice...throw enough to keep it cool with the aeration...the sun was too hot and it's what lacks more oxygen.
People around here called them skipjack. In the FWC website, it’s identified as leatherjacket. It’s a cool fish to freeline, you can see them come up and snatch the bait!!
O shit my two favorite fishing channel just combined . Dope 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👏🏼 . Thonny help me pick my rod out and hey skipper is a must watch. Great video guys
Kinda random but I’m good friends with Thonny and actually met you guys on the pier that one day. Don’t know if anyone told you yet but the fish you couldn’t identify was a skipjack. They look like a mackerel without the spots, yellow tail and have teally nasty anal fins! Good luck fishing man and it was a pleasure meeting you
Ha! "Just keep lettin him swim" he says. I got my first snapper on accident like this the other day. I wanted to see how much line I had left on my reel so I cast out into the current from the bridge and just let it go. About 100 yards out and a snapper damn near took the last 50 yards I had. (Was at the jetty the day before so I was almost out of line). Man that was an awesome fight. Works for me every time now. I even have a weight rig setup that parachutes out into the current in case my live bait isn't feeling suicidal.
Mackerel, Spanish, King and baby tunas show up at breakfast and dinner. Gatorade bottle & 7 feet leader + 1/2oz works great when current pulled away from pier.
hey guys , change the bucket color from white to black , that way you live baits last longer in the bucket , it simulates a dark environment which calms the fish , so they stop darting and hiting their heads against the bucket wall.
@@HeySkipper lol not theory on my side brother , we have tested the theory and they last longer never really had a problem with the sun hey , we arent to different in climate here, keep it in a shaded environment,we travel long distances with this setup in the back of the van no issues ,airstone and you good to go. they like dark environments, and frequent water changes, ,the ammonia build up in a small bucket happens quite fast also try keep handling to a minimum. if you can unhook without touching even better , wet hands when hooking or hook it while still in the bucket. all this is done to maximize survival time while hooked especially with fragile species , which tend to be the favored item on the menu most times .hardier species don't require such intensive care to keep survival rates up . keep up great work brother . god bless
Wow this place looks awesome is this the Skyway bridge in Tampa it looks so different as far as I remembered it was too high to fish from and it was always packed with people!
That fish you called a skipjack is called a La'i (La-ee) in Hawaii. The old school guys (pre 90's) used to make trolling lures out of the skin. These days, there are better materials but some still keep the skin to embed them in resin heads for big game fishermen who go after pelagics. They make expensive lure heads out of the skin but I think they catch more fishermen than they do fish.
Fun video ..notthing better than fishing with the locals..it is awesome to get the dolphin on video..why you guys threw back the markerel? They are tasted great..
I can’t wait to get back to Clearwater St. Pete ima fish that skyway bridge piers. What side is better fishing the St. Pete side or Sarasota side? That dolphin was awesome but I know when dolphins are around fishing slows way down!!! Cool channel brother keep up good work!!!
I think your describing what we Filipinos call hasa hasa... I use diy sabiki to catch those.... don't know the exact name of that fish but i believe its a family of mackerel
Awesome collabo! That pier is where I learned a lot about fishing down here. Hope you enjoyed this heck of the woods! Keep up the good work and tight lines man! Next time you're in the area hit up our beaches for some snook in the surf!
I usually buy a roll of expansive cloth that you can get in any crafts isle in walmart, the thinst one possible, and it will hold the bait tight even those goosy loose shrimp can be made like a big furr ball
Hey skipper . I'd really enjoyed this video so very much . I'd like see more fishing like this one . Really wanting see is that fishing for a such very largest fish off the pier fishing . Even something out hear South bay an north bay even some other piers Close to out even if IT'S just little far for me my wife family go to. Please keep in touch thank you God bless you family
You can try to use sabiki rigs to catch those bait fish, it's also an effective way to catch small fishes because you can just hook up 3 to 5 fishes in a row
The best bait bucket for the pier is a drop bucket five gallon bucket with 1/8 inch holes all through it I leave about five inches at the bottom so if you only have one or two you don't have to drop it until you get more that with a bucket up top with a aerator but even greenbacks will live in a drop bucket for hours
Man I've been watching for at least a year maybe even 2 and I'm a newbie to fishing. Usually just pounds and creeks. Cant wait to peer fish. Wish I could try your shrimpie bits. But I'm broke. Hopefully soon. Great video

Man I wish I would have known you were in my neck of the woods I'd have called out of work to fish with you guys and thonny. Add so aquarium stress coat to your bait bucket to help your bait live longer
the fish you are asking probably is " Horse mackerel , Jack mackerel" the link: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trachurus

T.B. is just straight up on FIRE!

@@HeySkipper leatherjacket fish
@@captaincrunch6741 I was thinking too that he might be describing a leatherjacket?
It is a leatherjacket, and beacreful with those they got a nasty sting

Senang sekali lihat video mancing.
2:20 the fish you’re talking about is called Smelt.
That was hilarious 😂
The fish you said looked like a mackerel is probably a yakka
Mackerel, Spanish, King and baby tunas show up at breakfast and dinner. Gatorade bottle & 7 feet leader + 1/2oz works great when current pulled away from pier.
Your channel has taught me lots, thanks!
Two legends, glad to see you enjoyed Tampa Bay🤘🏽
Thank you! We had a blast
hey guys , change the bucket color from white to black , that way you live baits last longer in the bucket , it simulates a dark environment which calms the fish , so they stop darting and hiting their heads against the bucket wall.
Hmm interesting theory, but have you ever had problems with the sun heating up the black too much? Florida is 🔥

I'm fisherman from north Borneo@Sabah . That Fish you catch in early video We call "kutambak" Fish .. Really Like this side, cool 👍

Skyway pier is one of the coolest fishing spots in the United States IMO.
Hey guys, in the Caribbean isle🇹🇹 (Trinidad) we call the "Spanish mackerel" Carite. Lovely when fried, tender & not too gamey, like the King mackerel.
Nice fishing.. 👍
Fun video ..notthing better than fishing with the locals..it is awesome to get the dolphin on video..why you guys threw back the markerel? They are tasted great..
Good job.👍
The fish you're talking about at the beginning is definitely a type of jack catch them a lot down here
VERY NICE
GOOD
THIS IS THE TOP
Another great video. Thanks,I enjoyed it.

Juvenile king mackerel is what you saw.

Good Afternoon Guys n Girl hopefully in the Future you make a Team Name for a new TH-cam channel
You can eat puffer.they are really good. I'm watching two of your videos at the same time.

Man I miss fishing there. Use to live in Sarasota. Spent many nights there on the Skyway fishing.
I love your channel so much :)
Thanks!!!
Hooked 12 different porpoises last winter. Expensive using breaded line but fun.
Waooww amzing mr.👍👍🇮🇩🇮🇩
Thanks for another get video.
I had my pin fish taken by a dolphin too and it almost spooled my reel, I thought I had a tank...lol
We were fishing for Spanish last week and didn't do any good. Them are some beautiful fish
Darn, sorry to hear that man
You can try to use sabiki rigs to catch those bait fish, it's also an effective way to catch small fishes because you can just hook up 3 to 5 fishes in a row
Did you even watch the video lol
Hey i was wondering what size sinker you use with sabiki rig?
I've spent a lot of time on the north sky way.
Thank you very much
You are welcome!
you should use some cooking tongs to handle the macks @heyskipper
What the heck. You guys were in Tampa? How long yall down for? I live in Tampa. It would have been dope to fish with yall.
I believe the fish you are describing is called a Scad.
The skyway piers use to be the 2nd best place to fish in Florida, but when they tore down the twin span of the pier, fishing went to the dumps.
Skipjack is the fish you talking about mr I seen u twice on skyway last month lol
i think that fish you caught was a rainbow runner, they look like mackerel
No it’s a leatherjack
Man I've been watching for at least a year maybe even 2 and I'm a newbie to fishing. Usually just pounds and creeks. Cant wait to peer fish. Wish I could try your shrimpie bits. But I'm broke. Hopefully soon. Great video
Didn't know you were in Florida that's cool hope you enjoy the fishing
Thank you!
i thought grouper hang out more under the piers and less out in the open
Noticed the difference in video quality.. good job
In the box do you have to change the salt ??
Was u in galveston pier about 2 weeks ago
thats a baby queen fish brother for sure , they get spots after getting matured ..
fish on!
Wooo
Hi bro. Wanted to ask you what fishing rod are you using.
Sounds like Spanish mackerel. They have spines going down each side of tail
Wasn’t a Spanish! It was a skip jack
Sooo funny the dolphin almost got your bait
Every episode he pushing the bit box every episode I get closer to buying it
I bought it and I fish fresh water Great Lakes, haha
What did you catch?? That’s awesome, I hope you got some good ones!
The all in one bait box you get one of each pack of bait in the waterproof box. It’s what I bring with me every trip!
Nice video
Saludos de Tijuana
Dude please do a vid with your dad he is like the og of fishing
You were describing a jack mackerel in the beginning.
what place is that where are you fishing? Thank you
You should make salted blue crab
