    Thank you for that message about catch and PROPER release. It's the best tool we have to preserve the fisheries for future generations.

    Wow just seeing this out of the box th-cam.com/users/postUgkxQr1yd4Zc6qJF-scTB6Zb9dQbVpviuRxB recommend I have yet to fish with this set up, but based on the first hands on appeal, I can tell this is going to change the way i pack and carry to a whole new level. If you fish like i do, you know the smaller and less stuff the better. I’ve added a photo of just some of my gear so you can see how serious i am about fishing.

We caught more than anyone else using these light line rigs. Largest 27” red was caught on a nickel size sandflea, lol. All others using squid and mullet chunks. Smallest red was 23”. All caught in front of the first sandbar. Good luck to you!!

      Some time people are new to pier fishing too , so it would help if you see someone catching big fish , help them learn by teaching them .
      I fish freshwater , went to my first pier , caught a big lady fish, was going to use it for bait , had it in my wire basket and drop the line at 10 feet and it kill the fish on impact , but I learn NOT to do that next time

    • @johnc6228
      @johnc6228 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@reelfishing002 You are so right about teaching people how to do it right. Since I was really young my father and I would help net fish, offer bait that is working, recommend hook size etc.,where to go etc. Now I have so many poles, lures and terminal tackle I just plan on giving away stuff to that person who needs it. I also carry two piece rod upper halves if someone breaks a rod or I just give them a whole setup. You just drove all the way here and now you're going home? Here's a rod, buddy, you're staying. Bait shop closed or sold out or too far a drive? Take mine, I'll try some lures so I know better which lure to recommend. Last time I went pier fishing with a coworker and his family. He spent the whole time netting fish for people because I made a 25' handled net. He had a great time doing it. I hit on the right setup catching more fish than most so I was giving away similar tackle. I also make laminated fish ID and regulation printouts to give away and post for all to look at but of course everyone can check their phones. Fishing is a social bonding experience.

  • @decwow
    @decwow 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    @Hey Skipper I live around Wilmington NC, and out in the intercoastal at low tide you can usually walk out into the water 50-60ft. or more and cast out where the schools of finger mullet are. I have a small 4' net like you were throwing in the beginning of this video as well as a larger 7' net and if you hit one of those schools with that bigger net you can pull more of those mullet in one cast that you can possibly use in a day. Even the 4' net can get you stocked up in 2-3 good landing casts. Drop them in a 5gallon bucket of that water with a small bottle of frozen water and $5 bubble aerator,... you've got live bait all day. (even those long days)
    At low tide in a lot of these areas, the water comes up to about mid-stomach (I'm 5' 10.5" for reference). You can walk right out if you don't mind getting wet, and if you have high waders you can go pretty far without even that.

    • @decwow
      @decwow 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also... If you have a YETI cooler, even one of the smaller ones, you can fill it up with only ice and leave it out of the sun (inside the car maybe...) and it will usually keep ice for most of the week at this time of year.

    I was born and raised in NC. My dad took me to the beach to fish, after first teaching me the basics with fishing in our pond and the local lake, from the time I was 7-8 yrs old. I have been to the OBX a handful of times in my life, I have been to Harkers Island many times, but over my life (45 yrs) I usually fish the Atlantic beach - Emerald Isle - Morehead - Beaufort areas. I am planning to hit up the OBX this fall, since I finally have a 4WD truck, and having a go at it. Could you do a video on your camping setup and the gear you have with you when you are camping on the beach? How do you manage to deal with ice (or lack of, in this case)? How do you kill the fish you plan to eat, like do you bop them on the head or do you use that method where you jam an ice pick in a specific spot? The tents, the sleeping gear, cooking gear, and what things you have to make it a bit easier to handle the elements? I have tried setting up a tent on the beach before, yet the constant onshore wind tore it up in about 3-4 hours. I know I am asking a lot of questions, but I have never been able to actually stay several days on the beach like you are doing in this video and it has been 20 years since the last time I was on the OBX. It seems hwy 12 is rarely passable without a 4WD. But I have that now, and me and my wife, daughter, and my dad enjoy the beach and fishing and so I want to do more of this. Any info you can give me would be greatly appreciated.
    Also, how would someone go about getting you and Erin's autographs without having the chance to meet y'all?

  • @shondoyle8289
    @shondoyle8289 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I found that in the OBX my best bait was the fresh finger mullet. If I left the bait in the water for more than five to ten minutes with out a bite it became crap food. I also poked wholes in the finger mullets just behind the gills and cut the tails off. Fish On!
