In today's video we headed out to the skyway fishing pier. We wanted to target our skyway secret candy bait, but the plans changed in the middle of the day, we ended up Fishing with live threadfin, and ended up catching trout and grouper off the pier. We tried live pinfish, live whitebait, but the threadfin ended up being the ticket. You also get tips on catching bait off the skyway, or any pier that you happen to go fish. Catching big fish off piers can be very challenging because you are landlocked and can't escape the boat traffic, but most of the time boaters are respectful. This day, we happen to have a local captain come trolling over everyones lines on the pier, it's a shame when boaters don't respect pier fishermen. We have been having extremely hot days here in Florida, which makes pier fishing almost impossible because it's so hot. Pier fishing tips are all over these skyway videos that we are making, pay attention and soak up the information. *Hey Chris...You are so right about Spot Tails... their poop is so nasty that there is no way any self respecting Grouper would eat it. Houston we have a Bead problem.... My trick for keeping bait more spunky was to keep a separate bucket on the side with fresh sea water and frozen ice baggies (frozen plastic bottles nowadays) in it... and add the colder-new-water in increments to the bait bucket... and that allowed for waste water exchange and cooler water to hold more O2'd rather than keeping ice in the bait well... because If the bait are too cold, they get shocked/killed when they hit the water of the ocean...Waste water exchange is the part folks tend to ignore while aerating baits. Nice video! free chips and cast net! hey just a pro-tip from a friend that goes there alot. make a frame from 1&1/2 to 2" maximum pvc pipe and 90 degree elbow fittings 6' square then use zip ties to tie off between the concrete rail and the 1" metal conduit on the outer side DO NOT GLUE THE FITTINGS. Then get a 7" tarp at harbour freight and tie the eyelets to the top of pvc and over to your vehicle's window frame. it keeps you and your gear a lot cooler. I was there on the south pier last week and spent about 16 hours under the shade. It was fun and the shade makes it tolerable. Thanks for posting.

@@CaptChrisCanning Yeah my friend Tim W. from Winter Garden first told me about that. 2" pvc is tight but 1&1/2" with zip ties works well. the 2" is great for fishing pole holders too. God bless you and Josh for the videos.

I have a question about tides how do you fish them do u fish them before or after the tide mark?
Tide Charts are always 2 hrs off. I live between Tampa and Orlando and leave my house at the middle of the high slack tide and get there just as it begins to go out. Still can't figure where on the pier you guys fish. I'm there very often and would like to stop by and say HI!

Was there saturday at 1pm it was way too hot for productive fishing. Caught a bunch of bait but nothing other than bait. My 74 year old father got close to a heat stroke. We will be going back when it cools down.

Both are good. Incoming and out going. It’s all about that first hour of the tide switch 👀

New guy here in the Bay Area. Anyone have suggestions/opinions on the “best” tide to fish? Incoming or outgoing? I’m a freshwater angler so this is new to me.
It is kinda fish dependent, but the change of the tide is a good standard to follow. So before that tide change you need to be fishing! I have a freshwater video dropping TODAY!

Until I unpin this comment no one has won the free baits. I haven’t see anyone guess correctly, no it isn’t my shirt. The outro was filmed after the video, and I had taken a shower, so naturally that changed. HINT: it was closer to the beginning than the end 🤷🏻♂️
