Definitely, especially if someone has an interest or vocation in music production, they shouldn't miss the studio version. For its age, one of the most incredibly well produced songs of all time. A true masterclass.
Lots of great Simon and Garfunkel to explore. Also Paul Simon solo career was incredible- try his ‘Diamonds on the soles of her shoes- Africa Concert’… one of my favs.
What's even more unbelievable is that despite having a crowd of over ten thousand people, there were zero incidents of violence, theft, nothing... and this took place in Central Park which is famous for it's crime rate
This is a Great Rabbit Hole to get into. This is their Central Park concert in 1981, a reunion. They've recorded beautiful music. "The Boxer" was released in 1969. You should follow up with their studio recording. Paul Simon is the guitar player, and Art Garfunkle is the other. "Sounds of Silence" 1964 is another excellent choice. edit: Art was the man chatting with George Harrison (Beatle) during your Carly Simon reaction to "That's The Way I've Always Heard it Should Be"
Hi Rere ... What a nice surprise here. I play a few of the great Simon & Garfunkel songs on piano and love to sing them. All of them have a special rhythm, but this one is my favorite to play. Their music is timeless and generation after generation realize how special these songs are. Thanks for sharing this one. 🌿🌿🎼🌿🌿
They started singing at 13 years old & had their 1st hit record at 16 years old. This concert is 1981 & they were about to turn 40 years old. Next month Paul Simon ( the short one ) will be 83 years old & Art Garfunkel ( the taller one) will be 83 in November. This is an awesome concert & I recommend it. Over 500,000 people attended in Central Park, New York City.
Simon & Garfunkel is without doubt the greatest duo in music history. Alas I have not been able to see them perform live together, but I've attended a concert with Paul Simon, performing the great songs he wrote for them.
Wonderful reunion concert! Thanx for sharing with us. Others will list the dzns of great songs they produced in their short duo career... Shout out to PaulSimon (the guy with the guitar), who wrote most of their music, and is such a poet that he went on to have a very long&meaningful solo career.
Yep, a pair of New York legends who had split acrimoniously a decade beforehand, reunited here in their home city to a massive audience in Central Park. Live, from that gig, I suggest The Sound of Silence and Mrs Robinson. Recorded, perhaps Homeward Bound (written by Simon at Widnes train station; there is a plaque), Bridge Over Troubled Water (Art Garfunkel's voice is amazing on that one, so highly recommended) and maybe something darker like I Am A Rock or Hazy Shade of Winter (which The Bangles covered).
Years ago my parents bought their house on the outskirts of New Hope PA and right along part of the New Hope & Ivyland Rail. The train company had long since gone the way of the Dodo. In its place was a tourist-y, weekend only, few mile trip out and back train ride from New Hope. They noticed that right before and after the train passed them the train would toot its horn and they’d hear people hollering “Hi!”, “Hellooo!”, “Love you!” etc from the train. But they had NO idea why? Then, by chance, my father happened to meet him as they both stood by their mailbox looking at what the day had brought them. It was none other than Art Garfunkel!!😳🤯 That’s when it connected and my dad asked if it was him that everyone on the train was yelling to? Yep. He had a little porch area built down and a little bit away from the tracks so that he could, when he was home, watch the train and chill out. At some point someone saw him and put it together who he was. So waving at the people on the slow passing, old steam locomotive and cars became a relaxing ritual for him. Sorry that was so long, but if you didn’t know the details the story wouldn’t make sense. Keep growing and expanding your musical tastes!
Ah very cool I saw this concert live on HBO I think when I was 12 and it was my first chance to see them though I think I had heard them before. Very cool all this show.
Great Reaction!!! One of my favorites growing up. Talking about interaction and gentle, you should check out Peter Gabriel "In your Eyes" Secret World live performance. One of my most favorite love songs ever!!
Do yourself a favor and listen to the studio version. I know people get excited and recommend live versions, especially if they maybe went to this concert, but the studio version is from when they were younger. The voices were clearer, stronger, crisper. There is also percussion that accentuates the mood of the song.
A fighter can't quit. "And he carries the reminders Of every glove that laid him down Or cut him till he cried out In his anger and his shame "I am leaving, I am leaving" But the fighter still remains"
The original studio recording of this song is one of the greatest tracks ever made. You should listen to that version to get the full power and beauty of this amazing song. Suggestions... "The Sound of Silence", "Scarborough Fair", "Homeward Bound", April Come She Will", Bridge Over Troubled Water", "I Am A Rock"... and many more.
In the clearing stands a boxer And a fighter by his trade And he carries the reminders Of every glove that laid him down Or cut him 'til he cried out In his anger and his shame "I am leaving, I am leaving" But the fighter still remains... 😎
There are so many amazing songs by these two that it will take a VERY long time to react to. I suggest starting with Bridge Over Troubled Water, The Sounds Of Silence, Scarborough Fair, Homeward Bound, America and The 59th St Bridge Song. Those will get you well started down this very deep rabbit hole. Of course personal tastes vary, but I believe that you would be very hard pressed to find even a single BAD song from them. Of course you will like some more than others, but that doesn't make any one bad
Paul Simon is a masterful songwriter. They were very popular. After they parted ways Paul SImon had a very successful solo career going the more Pop/rock sound, but was still a great storyteller. I'd suggest "50 ways to leave your lover" "Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard" , "Kodachrome" and "You can call me Al" Loved your reaction Rere.
This was the first album I bought, I used to play football Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning's. Sunday afternoon I used to flop in the chair and listen to the bridge over troubled water album. Brilliant.
I've never seen this particular performance before - Paul really looks strung out here. Did he battle with drug addiction then? I've seen that very look in the eyes, face, mouth...in a younger brother who later lost his battle about 12 years ago
You're doing great Rere...I'm a retired school music teacher so that ought to somewhat qualify that statement as informed and sincere. Paul Simon would write the songs, a super song writer and poet, but Art Garfunkel, the tall one, added the beautiful harmonies . But Art sang the lead on Bridge Over Troubled Water [1970, Grammy for Song of the Year]. . The music is timeless and more young people are discovering what they are missing in music today. These guys a re very old now and won't be around much longer...may their music last forever. Forget the heavy metal covers of their songs, that's BS....those musicians need to write their own sounds and create their own narratives rather than bastardize what is already perfect.
Check out the sound of silence and bridge over troubled waters classics For storytelling Don Mc Clean American Pie and Vincent well worth checking out.
Love your reactions. Its a genuine classic. Its obviously done in the 80s with the backing, which is a shame. Its been Hollywooded, so much better just bare vocals and acoustic guitar.
Please listen to the studio version. It’s always best to listen to the studio version first ,It’s how the artist intended there music to be heard .. love your channel..
You would probably really enjoy “Bridge Over Troubled Water”. Personally, I prefer the original version better than the live version. I just like the arrangement and performance better ❤
Please, please, listen to the studio version! It makes this fine performance sound like a poor cover band version. Then delve into their catalogue, which is phenomenal. Paul Simon, the shorter of the two playing guitar, is one of the greatest songwriters of the past 60 years, in a class with Lennon-McCartney and Dylan. His solo career following their breakup and spanning from the 70’s to recent years, is equally iconic.
For me, the whole concert at Central Park is one of the best ever by any artist or band
This one HAS to be listened to with the studio version and headphones... the sounds are just incredible... nothing else quite like it.
Definitely studio version a must. With all there there songs studio first.
You should listen to their song Bridge over Troubled Water
Yes. Turned off when i saw it wasn't the studio version.
Definitely, especially if someone has an interest or vocation in music production, they shouldn't miss the studio version. For its age, one of the most incredibly well produced songs of all time. A true masterclass.
They have so many beautiful songs. Bridge over troubled water is one of my personal favorites.
Oh, just Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel singing in front of a New York City crowd of a mere 500,000 people.
Also check out Bridge Over Troubled Water, & I Am A Rock.
Lots of great Simon and Garfunkel to explore. Also Paul Simon solo career was incredible- try his ‘Diamonds on the soles of her shoes- Africa Concert’… one of my favs.
These guys were a magnificent folk music duo in the 1960s. I wore out all of their albums 😊
RERE, you need to react to their studio recording of 'Scarborough Fair/Canticle" (with the printed lyrics) It is SOOOO BEAUTIFUL.
I would be willing to bet that for the couple hours at this concert lasted The crime rate in New York City probably dropped considerably !!
Actually true
What's even more unbelievable is that despite having a crowd of over ten thousand people, there were zero incidents of violence, theft, nothing... and this took place in Central Park which is famous for it's crime rate

This entire concert is amazing. Nice reaction 🙂
"Sounds of silence" from the 2009 live performance at Madison Sq Gardens which is my favourite after 45 years of the original release

Love this song. When people find your channel they are going to react to this and any other Simon and Garfunkel you play. Thanks for reacting to it!

Lovely reaction, Rere. There are so many gems from these two. A couple real beauties are "Homeward Bound" and "Bridge Over Troubled Water." ✌️
Gotta hear the studio!!! Do yourself the favor 😘

This was live. No auto-tune or gimmicks. These guys were so loved by many of fans. Legends they were. Check out other songs
I love that little hiccup at the beginning.
Gentle, yes. Well said. Their music is gentle. Even
"Scarbourough Fair" where one of the 2 songs is of war. Love it.

Definitely listen to the original studio recording. I'm my opinion, this version doesn't do the song justice.
There was an estimated 500,000 people in attendance at this concert.
Simon and Garfunkel were huge through the late 60’s and early 70’s. Paul Simon went on to have a massive solo career into the 80’s

Ah i see the full concert in tv. i love the concert. and music from my youth. memories
The original studio recording of this song is one of the greatest tracks ever made.

This was a free concert in Central Park, New York City, 1981. Estimated crowd of half a million people 😁
Beautiful & Brilliant!

The Only Living Boy In New York is my favorite.
One of the best songwriting of all time
What a pity you didn't choose the studio version :-( You'd be blown away, I promise.
RND, if you also love music to dance to, Paul Simon's catalog is full of fantastic rhythmic pieces, like "Me and Julio Down By the Schoolyard"
don’t forget 🎼 You can call me Al 🎶👍🏽👌🏽
I've never seen this particular performance before - Paul really looks strung out here. Did he battle with drug addiction then? I've seen that very look in the eyes, face, mouth...in a younger brother who later lost his battle about 12 years ago

Me and Julio down by the school yard...video on this one❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Alison Krauss covered this badass song along with Shawn Colvin and Jerry Douglas, and is just as beautiful as this one.
Check out the sound of silence and bridge over troubled waters classics

You need to listen to silence and bridge over trouble water.I believe you would like them.

You have to check out the recording version you will be in shock with what you hear
You have very good taste
Great reaction... If you could some of the carpenters soon, that be fabulous, thanks ❤
You need to listen to the studio version.
You gotta checkout “please dont ask “ live by John Farnham and Olivia newton john

Too bad you weren't doing the studio version. There's more Dynamics to it
You need to listen to bridge over troubled water. But don't matter what all of their music was good
You really need to hear the recorded version from the studio. It is far superior.
Such talent. Music is full of talentless nobodies today.
Pet Shop Boys - West End Girls (Official Video) [HD REMASTERED]
you should listen to the studio version a good deal more dramatic
Just to let you know, in the New Zealand Maori language, your first name Rere means "to fly", or "to flow"....
This version is missing the wonderful percussion from the studio version.
I think of this as Donald Trump's song: lie lie lie, lie lie lie lie lie lie lie lie, lie lie lie!
A bad version but Two voices together will never sound as good again.
