Yes... a posting of this video actually does not include the voter registration comments.... today in the states that is a political issue for some which is so so sad.
John Denver is my most favorite artist of all time! The classics from John is "Take Me Home, Country Roads," "Rocky Mountain High," "Annie's Song" (which he wrote for his 1st wife), "Sunshine on my Shoulders," and my personal favorite is "Poems, Prayers, and Promises." I'm glad you've had a chance to listen to John and his music is timeless and great! John is the gospel to my life!
Two talented people gone too soon. Cass Elliot died of cardiac arrest two years after that performance, in a home owned by singer songwriter Harry Nilson who wrote many hits back in the day. ( sadly 4 years later Kieth Moon, the drummer of The Who also passed away in the same home). John Denver died ironically in an airplane crash he was the pilot and I believe he was the only one on board, it was an experimental aircraft. It was the day before he was to sing a duet at a wedding with a friend of my wife and I. Beautiful performance, nice reaction.
The audience reaction at the start is because it was already a big, big hit when this was recorded. This song is older than I am, and for 20+ years after it was a hit, kids grew up knowing this song. Everybody loves this song 😁
John Denver wrote some absolute beautiful songs and his voice was one off - and the song was to his wife - about touring with his music! Try 'Back Home Again!' as an antidote! :)
Simply stunning. Surely this has to be one of the greatest live duets (of all-time) . Lovely reaction . I would highly recommend John singing "What are we making weapons for" (Let us begin). That song is so relevant today, the song pleads for peace, NOT war, IT ALSO HAPPENS TO BE A DUET. (Shortly before his death) John called this song "the greatest piece of work in my entire career" (paraphrasing). Thanks, from Belfast ☘️😀
John Denver: Annie's Song... also Janis Joplin "Ball and Chain" live at the Monterrey Pop Festival where they film Mama Cass Elliot's amazed face in the crowd as an actual reaction to Janis' voice and performance.
I was only four when this came out but there was a point when I could make myself stay awake through Saturday Night Live to watch this show on my little 12 inch black-and-white! ☮️☮️☮️ two supremely talented beings
You can catch most of John Denver's hits on his Live Wildlife Concert from 1995, 2 years before his death at 53 yrs of age. As subtle as your expressions were I could see how much you appreciated their voices and harmony.
John Denver's beautiful serene soulful voice is matched by his musicality and story telling. A beautiful soul that transends all music a soaring soulful voice that at times soars above the highest mountain. He was a rare gift but thankfully still listened to and loved by all ages. It is wonderful to see the youngsters of today like yourself appreciate music like this for the first time. Good luck with your channel.
John Denver was one of the folk style artist who effortlessly sang. His vocal range was amazing. He never seemed strained. More like he allowed it to happen. He was also a wonderful song writer. Died far too young.
John Denver is a Folk singer. Check out his other songs. Also check out Cass Elliot and her band called " The Mammas & Pappas. " They are both are great groups.
You will love ‘Rocky Mountain High’ and ‘Take me Home Country Roads’. Legendary. He is great live, but the studio releases really let you focus on the incredible song writing and vocals.
John could perform in person by himself with just his guitars and sing for two hours without a problem and keep a crowd enthralled. You could go down a deep rabbit hole with John Denver's library. Everyone request his most popular hits but even more of his less well-known songs are unbelievable. Some of my favorites are How Can I Leave You Again, Come and Let me Look in Your Eyes and Whispering Jesse to mention a few.
Simply a legendary song-writer, singer, and all-around nice guy, John was one of the most prolific folk-pop hit-makers of the 70s. Cass was in the Mamas and Papas, and a superb singer in her own right. John left the world much too soon in a plane crash. He piloted the experimental version of a plane, and was alone when it crashed. For John, try Annie's Song, Calypso, I'm Sorry, Rocky Mountain High, Thank God I'm a Country Boy, all wonderful songs ...
Rere, here are two deep pools of music that are overlapping. John Denver had dozens of hits on his own. I would suggest Rocky Mountain High, Annie’s Song, & Country Roads. Mama Cass was a member of the Mamas and the Papas. I would suggest Monday Monday, California Dreaming, and I Saw Her Again. But in both cases, there are dozens of great songs to choose from. For Mama Cass by herself, see Dream a Little Dream of Me. I think you will love exploring any of these as they are great fun in the folk pop tradition. This song is written for his wife, Annie, as he was going on tour again.
She didn't actually write the song, John did (in 1966), Cass was just joking 😁 John wrote it, and the group Peter, Paul & Mary made it a big hit (1967), so if you like it, you should check out Peter, Paul & Mary's cover of it too 👍 Here it is: th-cam.com/video/F2m--R3J6f4/w-d-xo.html
John Denver made so many great songs. My favortie might be "The Wings That Fly Us Home" but it is hard to choose. When am i Philippines I sing "Follow Me" on karaoke. Sorry John Denver for treating your song that way, hope you can not hear up where you are now 🙂
Peter, Paul & Mary did a version of this and a classic version in the movie Armageddon with Ben Affleck singing it. Check out Annie's Song from John Denver next. So beautiful. :)
I would like to suggest some 1980s R&B classics I know you'll enjoy: "Slow Hand" by the Pointer Sisters (1981); "You Are My Lady" by Freddie Jackson (1985); "Shake You Down" by Gregory Abbott (1986); "I Knew You Were Waiting" by Aretha Franklin and George Michael (1987). For the first two songs, please listen to an audio-only version for best sound. For the last two songs, the official video will work. Enjoy!
It is really good to see your reactions. Listen closely to your musician friends, because you don't know what the future holds. I heard John when I was a freshman in college. There is a youtube of the concert I was at the portion recorded at Graceland (then college, now University - in Lamoni, Iowa. My English professor made him breakfast and got a kiss for it, in front of her husband and three children, who are still friends of mine. Here is the link: th-cam.com/video/oBOLfGrXo3U/w-d-xo.html I met quite a few other musicians before they became famous, and have had all kinds of friends make their own kind of fame. Bruce (now Caitlyn) Jenner the '76 olympic Decathlon gold medalist was my golf and table tennis partner. I met and played with Ted Nugent and Steve Tallarico - today better known as Steven Tyler of Arrowsmith. Too many others to mention here - Harry Chapin was an amazing person, you might enjoy looking him and his music up. Thank you for the journey you have started.
Wheather you describe John as folk or country , ... He always charted on mainstream charts.. Thank God I'm a Country Boy was pure hillbilly music , but went to number 1 in the US...
YOU PICKED THE WRONG VIDEO OF THIS TO PLAY. ANYWAY- REACT TO WHAT JOHN SAID WAS HIS BEST WORK EVER- SONG CALLED - "WHAT ARE WE MAKING WEAPONS FOR" SO POWERFUL AND IT'S THE SAME WAY TODAY!
This song was written about the soldiers leaving for Vietnam . Sadly 58,000 never came back !
Cass Elliot is Mama Cass from the The Mama's And The Papa's. Great 60's band. John Denver is a one-off musical Genius and genuine nice guy. Enjoy
Live performance, not auto-tune, no fakery. Just plain talent.
This is the example for vocal harmonization that MUST be followed. Flawless.
Country Roads, and Annie's Song are two more of John's most popular and evocative songs.
He makes that acoustic 12-string guitar sound so beautiful.
What's amazing is that what Mama Cass was talking about is still relevant today. Nothing much changes which is sad!
Yes... a posting of this video actually does not include the voter registration comments.... today in the states that is a political issue for some which is so so sad.
During that time I deployed again and again in the Navy Seabees and this song just says it all.
Boy oh boy haven’t heard that one in years! Two talented people! Cass was a beautiful singer! She could belt a song ❤
John wrote songs from a deep place inside himself. Rocky Mountain High and this Old Guitar of Mine two of my favorites

Interesting yet poignant memories, wow!
The audience reaction at the start is because it was already a big, big hit when this was recorded. This song is older than I am, and for 20+ years after it was a hit, kids grew up knowing this song. Everybody loves this song 😁
This a 10/10.
🍌🍌🍌🍌🍌 performance.
Absolutely iconic.
it went down on The Midnight Special every week. John & Cass were both American treasures. Thanks for sharing this one.
Proper musical entertainment
I remember watching this, I was 11 years old.
I lived through some wonderful times I must say.
Haunting and beautiful. He had a bunch of hits, for example, Country Roads Take Me Home.
❤
I watched the original broadcast of every week of the Midnight Special it's entire run on TV I'm 60 now growing up in the 1970's golden memories
I was 13... Great times!

John is a great artist with wonderful music.
The definitive version of this John Denver song is the one sung by Peter, Paul, & Mary. They had a big hit with it way back when.
Agreed. Oddly, tho I enjoyed both these vocalists back then, this duet seems a tad contrived. Nice effort tho !!
The Midnight Special & The Old Grey Whistle Test show has many great performances from many , many artist 🎸 🎙
I was only four when this came out but there was a point when I could make myself stay awake through Saturday Night Live to watch this show on my little 12 inch black-and-white!

Great Reaction !❤. John got flustered when quick witted Mama Cass said I didn’t ask how you were doing 😅
John Denver was one of the folk style artist who effortlessly sang. His vocal range was amazing. He never seemed strained. More like he allowed it to happen. He was also a wonderful song writer. Died far too young.
One of John's earliest and best... Peter, Paul and Mary helped launch John when they popularized this classic.

YOU PICKED THE WRONG VIDEO OF THIS TO PLAY. ANYWAY- REACT TO WHAT JOHN SAID WAS HIS BEST WORK EVER- SONG CALLED - "WHAT ARE WE MAKING WEAPONS FOR"
SO POWERFUL AND IT'S THE SAME WAY TODAY!
No, this was the right video. You picked the wrong keyboard. Next time, try one that doesn't stick the all caps key.
I agree- best video choice.
