    I love that you are using the hard board, it's so much more affordable, but not as nice as stretched canvas of course, but it works. With the larger boards they do warp~~~they said the paint an X on the back with gesso, well, it doesn't work. So I'm just going to start on my larger board anyway, for the first time. It's bowed even before I start, lol. I will get my son just to cradle it after. I wished there was an easier solution, but framing the back, gives it something to hang on to, also. Thank you again, for inspiring me~~~I AM going to go for it and let it go and express myself.

    • @LisaBBoardwine
      @LisaBBoardwine  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Diane, Have your son build the cradles and mount them to your panels- before you paint. This helps with the warping. You can also buy a thicker width of the masonite hardboard and that helps too! So glad you are having fun! Explore, Experiment and Express! One of my favorite mottos!!

The taped edges of the cracked panels protects them while I am painting, them when finished I just peel the tape add a hanging on the back and they are ready! You can leave the edges natural or stain them, paint them, it is totally up to you! I prefer leaving them natural. Hope this helps!

      @LisaBBoardwine  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sher, thank you so much for watching my videos! I also paint in acrylic/mixed media, I enjoy both mediums!As far as sealing or varnishing you work in oil/cold wax you do not have to do anything.The beauty of oil/cold wax is the matte finish, but if you want it to have a sheen or gloss you can put a coat of clear cold wax over the dry painting, then you can buff it with a soft cloth to achieve a sheen. If you want it to be glossy you can use GamVar by Gamblin to add a varnish in matte, satin or gloss. Have fun! xo

    Hi Lisa, obviously i became addicted to your cold wax technique which i find fantastic,.
    Two questions if i may; I noticed you try more or less to keep more or less shapes such as rectangular or squares in your paintings so it holds together, any colors plan before starting since you don't diversify colors, in this painting you used the brown/orange gamut on top of its blue complementary. Are these advices you may recommend? Thank you.

    • @LisaBBoardwine
      @LisaBBoardwine  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sharon, I am painting with oil and cold wax medium. The cold wax makes the oil paint dry faster, gives it bulk so you can build up layers easily and it gives the oil paint a matte finish-not glossy! If you want a shiny oil and cold wax painting you can achieve that with varnishing after the painting is completely dry.

  • @abdelfettas6089

      Cold wax medium is made mainly of beeswax- with a small amount of solvent & other ingredients to aid in drying time. It is to be mixed with oil paint to change the consistency and help it dry faster. Cold wax is a paste like substance, very soft and creamy. Similar qualities of encaustic paint but no hot wax or special ventilation needed with cold wax. Thank you for your interest!

    Thank you for your helpful videos. How do we avoid paint from cracking when using cold wax with oil paint?

    • @LisaBBoardwine
      @LisaBBoardwine  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for watching my channel!! Always use no more than a 50:50 ratio when mixing your oil paint with cold wax medium. Too much wax is not good!

      @@LisaBBoardwine thank you so much for your reply. Unfortunately I didn’t find an art shop in my country ( Cyprus) to purchase it. They only have it in liquid or powder but not sure how that works.

    How long will mixed wax keep n a container?

    • @LisaBBoardwine
      @LisaBBoardwine  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Suzanne, if you store paint mixed with wax in a container with a lid, it should keep for a week or so. You can also add a touch of the clear cold wax or a spritz of Gamsol-to loosen it back up if it starts to set up too quickly.

      Jocelyne, I use either the Multimedia Artboard or the Arches Oil Paper, both are wonderful!! You do not have to gesso or prime either of these to begin painting! So nice! Merci, for watching my videos!!

    How long does it take to dry?

    • @LisaBBoardwine
      @LisaBBoardwine  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kimberly, Drying time varies, according to temperature, humidity, airflow, how thinly or thickly the paint is applied, and certain colors can take longer to dry. But typically it sets up in a day or two and dries in a couple weeks. Thanks for watching!!

    how long it takes to dry

    • @LisaBBoardwine
      @LisaBBoardwine  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lora, drying time is dependent on several variables, how thickly or thinly the paint is applied, how much wax to paint ratio you have mixed, temperature, humidity. But the wax does make the oils dry faster than they normally would. Usually they are set up in a few days to a week.

    Does cold wax and oil dry so that you don’t have to put them under glass? I love double matted pieces under a better grade of glass but when making dozens of these paintings the expense is a factor!

    • @LisaBBoardwine
      @LisaBBoardwine  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jimmer E, the cold wax does make the oils dry faster. When they are completely dry, you can mat them under glass with no problems. You need the mat or a spacer so it holds the painting away from the glass. Or you can adhere them to a panel and they are ready to hang with no glass! Fun!
