My thoughts are, if the only valid playstyle is a hunter-gatherer-homesteader-jack-of-all-trades, the game could potentially be hard to get into for anyone who doesn't like that style of game. In an economy you'll need producers and consumers. If everyone is a producer, and if that's the only way to become wealthy, then that creates a lot of problems if no one is a consumer. There needs to be a way for players who just want to fight to be able to live in the game without building their own house, equipment, etc
From what I understand, you can attempt to do everything if you want or you could split it up among different members. It's a, your gear is what you are kinda game
No npcs/player driven economy sounds good on paper, but when you play off peak hours and when the player base dwindles after the hype inevitably dies down it'll feel empty or hollow more than anything. Hoping for the best but my expectations are definitely tempered.

I'm not sure I understand the negativity for this game. I get that it's not a groundbreaking kind of gameplay, but to me this game has a lot of very cool elements for people who like to chill and build stuff with their friends. I see a potential for the roleplay gamers too.
Looks like a nice relaxing survival mmo game. Not having any npcs or a story line, definitely appeals to the survivalist type of game players, making it more equivalent to EVE online imo. I enjoy a good thorough story, so this would probably not be for me, as I'd get bored to quickly having to do the same type of farming every day. But, I can see how it would appeal to a certain type of player.... probably someone who enjoyed Farmville. Left a like.
would be nice if you could hire npcs as servants to do tedious daily work once you get rich enough, it gets tedious eventually doing every menial thing there is in the game just to maintain wealth and whatnot or just npcs in general, like a major faction to trade with or interact with or something

@@KBreezy_ CE has trash building compared to this game, it doesn't even come close to its potential. No one forgot about it, it's just mediocre and built on an old engine. Also it only allows for max 70 people on a server where as Pax will have 20 000 people.
I like the idea. I just wish they put in NPCs and quests as sometimes you need a variety. I might want to do quests that teach me more about the lore or about the time period in the fantasy world.

The game is going to struggle if the devs don't give players some sort of direction. No NPCs or obvious quests make it difficult for people to find a purpose to play. I like the idea that it is an open-world survival with a player driven economy. Gives a lot of importance to the RP aspect of the game. (I like being an innkeeper or blacksmith, so it helps me). But, for people who want to fight, there needs to be a reason for them to fight, otherwise it just becomes an anarchy. I think having developer run governments where players can choose to settle in, could make it interesting. Where the developer can impose rules and appoint members of government from the player base, etc. (Something like Helldiver's Super Earth putting out commands and rewards for certain things, but a bit more hands on perhaps?) Having a player run economy doesn't work if there are no rules to it.
They'll definitely need Dungeons and raids to really keep people going imo. Like add a hostile faction of NPC's and bandit encampments and strongholds to raid and fight. Then again, now is the time to pitch these ideas.

It'll depend on what's there in terms of open world enemies (monsters, animals, whatever) and how the mod scene works, especially on PC. This is the type of game that will attract the RP crowd. I played a lot of Conan Exiles and honestly I had more fun roleplaying than engaging with the content the devs put in, especially when mods were developed that allowed for hosts to develop our own questing/reward content with. If it facilitates that well it'll have a very niche but dedicated and sustainable player base which honestly might be more healthy than the large base that many MMOs attract that drop-off once content drops inevitably slow down.
@@Josshill0 Have you played Alpha 2? I did for 15 mins and it was boring. Run around an empty uninspired map with no landmarks or interesting POI. I can see how it would be better with a friend but solo and no one is talking sucks. Doesn't help that you need a nasa computer to even run it at decent fps despite being UE5 optimized. To make a realistic game like this work, they need to force the player to make choices with solid progression curve so they aren't just running around twiddling their thumbs wondering wtf they are even doing.

Watching the 100h played in Pax Dei video and it makes it seem worse than Raft. If you don't have friends to play with, it's a horribly slow slog.
We'll I honestly can't say I wasn't expecting the actual gameplay graphics to stand up to the trailers, but still, I had hoped that it would at least get close to that visual fidelity. I will say though, I didn't know how much of a difference it makes to give the surface of water thickness, but I'll never be ok without it now😂

@spawwse Not trying to be negative, but he did say at the front of the video that the plan was to have no NPCs and to let the players fill the world. In his 20-minute video, he ran into nothing exciting. Just ran around looking at the environment and what I assume were other players buildings.

Been playing since today, got killed three times by a pack of wolves and ran away twice from a huge-ass bear. But I guess it depends on how you define "exciting" ...
@@veladarney The problem is direction. A game like this will NEED players if they don't add PvE elements like NPC bandits, raiders, or hostile factions. Eventually the game will be dominated by one large group per server and it will stagnate. They'll have to cross this bridge eventually, or let the game die.
I hate these kind of games, it's just the devs saying "you want a game? Make it yourself". Games like these are great on paper just like socialism is great on paper but when you account for people being stupid, greedy and convinced they are the main character of life games like this and socialism end up terrible.

day 1 was great. the game ran well and really enjoyed doing what i did. try to log in day 2 and get some sort of dload and then "installing" hangs at 98% no matter what i try as suggested fixes. and judging by what ive seen online im not the only one. some say it needs to be on an SSD which i have it on. others say go into settings and unselect the "use peer to peer network" and retry. nothing works. not sure how much feedback they are going to get on an alpha people cant even log in to to play.

For an alpha this is already pretty good, its atleast has one element in it thats really great and thats the building the rest is pretty mediocre but its still an alpha.
Went to join their Discord after playing for several hours. It has a little 4-question questionnaire before you could access. Question #4 asked "What are your pronouns?". Immediately uninstalled the game. Anywho, it's a clone of Valheim with prettier graphics.
I believe they need to go back to the drawing board with this one. I know this is it’s Alpha 2. But…this is how the game will function at launch. May see some minor changes here and there but all in all…THIS is the game. I was hoping for a new world version 2 w/ a bit of survival but this ain’t it. At this stage I would assume the game will die in a month in this competitive market.
New World is a Themepark MMO. Pax Dei is Sandbox, social based. The games are nothing alike. I do agree, though, that the combat needs A LOT of work. Even before they launch the early access

No NPC's??? Well 100% not buying this game now. Non-peak hours will be dead AF. Games like this MUST have NPC's to actually make the game feel full and alive. Worst decision ive seen in a game studio in a long time
yeah easy pass on this game dont have the patience for these types of games anymore especially if you are a solo player and will probably be another failed game waiting to happen.
The game is crap, from go with over a 20-man group it took us over 6 hours plus to make the first weapon. Due to 45 minute smelting times that only net 10 fkn ingots per smelter at a time and skill ups with the same time sink in every single thing you do, that is required to make basic gear. We made a mace that did 4.3 damage. The game is a lesson of tedium and feels more like work than a game. You also need to burn wood that has nearly the same time sink to make the charcoal to run the smelters and yes smelters and kilns smogging up the area like the Industrial Revolution of the 1700s because guilds need run 20 smelters and kilns to progress if they can find the resources that are already scare on our underpopulated test server to fill their small horde of smelters and Kilns that are absolutely needed so it does not take you one month to craft anything of notable worth. I do not think the devs have fully thought this out but the graphical impact even on low is going to be murder on most systems and GPU's because of all the smoke that is generated from the vast amount of equipment that is needed to progress your blacksmithing skill to a level where you can make your first weapon not to mention the first metal harvesting tool that was an hour or two later can not be turned off. Over all the game is Valhiem with better graphics and none of the amenities or bonuses of Valheim. Armor in the game seems poor at best when the same starter mobs can still kill you in two bites and the upgrade to said armor adds only four points more of armor. This was supposed to be a combat test but the pvp zone is far away and empty of players because they are all still smelting their little hearts off to get that first crappy mace. This game is a hard pass and will go the way of Life is Feudal and they should consider changing the name of the game from Pax Dei to Taedēre Vita which translates to Life is Tedious.
@@CrackCatWantsPat I do think that is the direction of the game and again for a combat test there is very little to no combat at all. in an ingame square mile there are 6 critters. They need a lot of fleshing out to make a viable game and they are talking early release.

@@CrackCatWantsPat I understand that, but it took six hours to craft the first weapon for one person, another 1.5 hours for the first harvesting tool of metal and another 36 for chain armor. The game also has no real pvp, and in this style of game the end game is PVP and sieges which this game has none of. There is no reason to PVP, no castle to conquer, no resources to take over, and no strategic area to claim. There has to be a reason to PVP a chain of driven events that force it and there is none at all. There will be no PVP as no one will want to lose the gear that took them 36 real hours to make beyond the poorly thought out combat system that has no real blocking, no dodging, and no real skills to it, leaving you to face tank everything, but there is no taunt so tanking even in PVE is not there for a party. The armor offers little to no coverage when you take roughly the same damage as you did in the starter smock. Currently, the only functioning combat mechanic is to chain shield stuns in a group so you never get hit which is getting nerfed from my understanding. I would have loved for this game to be more but its current direction is a complete failure and will remain that way till the DEV team can figure out the direction they want to take the game. They will go PVP or purely PVE and I think it is leaning towards PVE as they may be the only group willing to put up with this tedium. What gets me is they are advertising it as a PVP game, that they want to move to early access and they are so far from a product that the community will risk money on after being burned so many times by games that were more fleshed out than this poor attempt.
If I were given a buck for every game where some "expert" proclaimed it would be dead within a month of release that actually WASN'T dead within a month of release, I'd have quite a nice nest egg by now.

Graphics is the only thing the game has, Valhiem has more to offer in over all game play .

day 1 was great. the game ran well and really enjoyed doing what i did. try to log in day 2 and get some sort of dload and then "installing" hangs at 98% no matter what i try as suggested fixes. and judging by what ive seen online im not the only one. some say it needs to be on an SSD which i have it on. others say go into settings and unselect the "use peer to peer network" and retry. nothing works. not sure how much feedback they are going to get on an alpha people cant even log in to to play.

For an alpha this is already pretty good, its atleast has one element in it thats really great and thats the building the rest is pretty mediocre but its still an alpha.
The building is cut and pasted from other games, nothing great about it, it's standard and it is clunky. Stop fanboying over a mediocre concept.
Went to join their Discord after playing for several hours. It has a little 4-question questionnaire before you could access. Question #4 asked "What are your pronouns?". Immediately uninstalled the game.
Anywho, it's a clone of Valheim with prettier graphics.

New World is a Themepark MMO. Pax Dei is Sandbox, social based. The games are nothing alike. I do agree, though, that the combat needs A LOT of work. Even before they launch the early access

No NPC's??? Well 100% not buying this game now. Non-peak hours will be dead AF. Games like this MUST have NPC's to actually make the game feel full and alive. Worst decision ive seen in a game studio in a long time

The game is crap, from go with over a 20-man group it took us over 6 hours plus to make the first weapon. Due to 45 minute smelting times that only net 10 fkn ingots per smelter at a time and skill ups with the same time sink in every single thing you do, that is required to make basic gear. We made a mace that did 4.3 damage. The game is a lesson of tedium and feels more like work than a game. You also need to burn wood that has nearly the same time sink to make the charcoal to run the smelters and yes smelters and kilns smogging up the area like the Industrial Revolution of the 1700s because guilds need run 20 smelters and kilns to progress if they can find the resources that are already scare on our underpopulated test server to fill their small horde of smelters and Kilns that are absolutely needed so it does not take you one month to craft anything of notable worth.
I do not think the devs have fully thought this out but the graphical impact even on low is going to be murder on most systems and GPU's because of all the smoke that is generated from the vast amount of equipment that is needed to progress your blacksmithing skill to a level where you can make your first weapon not to mention the first metal harvesting tool that was an hour or two later can not be turned off.
Over all the game is Valhiem with better graphics and none of the amenities or bonuses of Valheim. Armor in the game seems poor at best when the same starter mobs can still kill you in two bites and the upgrade to said armor adds only four points more of armor. This was supposed to be a combat test but the pvp zone is far away and empty of players because they are all still smelting their little hearts off to get that first crappy mace.
This game is a hard pass and will go the way of Life is Feudal and they should consider changing the name of the game from Pax Dei to Taedēre Vita which translates to Life is Tedious.
Seems like your main issue with the game could be fixed by just tweaking the number of items required to craft stuff
@@CrackCatWantsPat I do think that is the direction of the game and again for a combat test there is very little to no combat at all. in an ingame square mile there are 6 critters. They need a lot of fleshing out to make a viable game and they are talking early release.
@@henryramos4185 These early zones are mainly meant for player houses, we will get end game zones that are more dangerous later on (where we can't build). I fully agree that the combat needs a ton of work though
@@CrackCatWantsPat I understand that, but it took six hours to craft the first weapon for one person, another 1.5 hours for the first harvesting tool of metal and another 36 for chain armor. The game also has no real pvp, and in this style of game the end game is PVP and sieges which this game has none of. There is no reason to PVP, no castle to conquer, no resources to take over, and no strategic area to claim. There has to be a reason to PVP a chain of driven events that force it and there is none at all.
There will be no PVP as no one will want to lose the gear that took them 36 real hours to make beyond the poorly thought out combat system that has no real blocking, no dodging, and no real skills to it, leaving you to face tank everything, but there is no taunt so tanking even in PVE is not there for a party.
The armor offers little to no coverage when you take roughly the same damage as you did in the starter smock. Currently, the only functioning combat mechanic is to chain shield stuns in a group so you never get hit which is getting nerfed from my understanding. I would have loved for this game to be more but its current direction is a complete failure and will remain that way till the DEV team can figure out the direction they want to take the game. They will go PVP or purely PVE and I think it is leaning towards PVE as they may be the only group willing to put up with this tedium.
What gets me is they are advertising it as a PVP game, that they want to move to early access and they are so far from a product that the community will risk money on after being burned so many times by games that were more fleshed out than this poor attempt.
