I have a 2016 ATS-V, manual, white sedan, painted black roof& hood vents. This car is awesome. Yeah I love M3’s (great body work, stock stance... sounds like a lawn mower.. :( )..., but It’s much more rare to see an ATS-V. A year of driving it, I’ve seen maybe 2 others. Multiple times I’ve played around with exotics and kept up easily at a quarter of the price. It blends in to police but really shows out when your put your foot down. I drive 30 miles to work everyday comfortably (and reliably) and get 25mpg. I’ll probably keep this car until i can afford a Porsche gts4 or some shit.
When comparing to a viper and z, understand that n/a cars will always have better throttle response then turbo cars. Also the Lt1 is a heavier engine and it would compromise some of the handling characteristics. Also remember turbo cars make power easier then n/a cars when modding comes into play so in order to keep up with the m3/4 and c63 amg down the line, the atsv had to have boost. Add a turbo back exhaust and tune with proper tires and the atsv is nearly a 10 sec quarter mile car.
Yes all good points, and as I said in the video, I was really struggling to find bad things about this car lol, that's why some of them are kinda debatable things
I went with the 8-speed automatic transmission and I couldn't be happier with the car I never use the paddle shifters hardly ever unless I'm trying to show off. I love the car the only thing I do not like about the car is the fingerprints but I can live with him
I daily drive one with the 6MT. It's not hard at all to get it going. If you ease the clutch out on flat ground you don't even have to press the gas. I taught my wife to drive it in under an hour, and she had never driven a stick before. Not sure how you came to this conclusion.
Weird I had no problems with the MT on this car in test drives. I even had no problem taking off while idling. No stalls. There's usually an adjustment period when jumping into a new MT car but this one was fairly seamless.. Thanks for the review.
as Cadillac stated in their debut of the Ats-V it was to beat/compete, with the euro (turbo6) group. during development there was a rumor the LF4 TT was going in the C8. LF4 is a great motor.
Weird, I had a 2013 ATS 2.0T manual and now have a 2017 ATS-V manual and they're both ridiculously easy to heel-toe compared to any of the cars I've had in the past (including two Porsches and a number Corvettes (1 C3, 1 C5 and 2 C6s). Everyone's built differently though, I guess. I definitely agree on your point on stalling. I've stalled this damn thing way too many damn times, and I've been daily-driving stick-shift cars for 12 years. GM drive-by-wire cars tend to have a lot of dead area in the beginning of the pedal, though.
I agree with your first point. This car would definitely be better with an LT4 or LS1, or any LT or LS motor for that fact. The car still sounds good with a TT V6.
The suspension geometry is the reason why the LT4 wasn't put into it and won't fit. While the ATS is similar to the Camaro there are a few differences that allow the Camaro to fit the V8 in the engine bay.
The gripe about the turbo 6 is silly, that's what the CTS-V is for (V8)....and it's not like they slipped in a V6 after the car was bought... I'm not bothered by C.U.E.'s layout, though it could stand to be quicker at times. Not sure if it's the same manual transmission as in the turbo 4, but I only stalled out once on the initial test drive, no other times.
Personal preference on the engines. CUE is frequently rated as one of the worst systems out there in it's class, but again personal preference I suppose. Not sure if the tranny is the same, but regardless I'd probably adjust to it fine if I was driving it every day rather than here and there. Keep in mind it was hard to find serious complaints with the car since it's fantastic, so some of them might seem petty.
I'm guessing they didn't put the LT1 in there because of the weight and weight distribution. The V6 isn't something to hate about the car. Take, for example, the Grand National. It's still a very good and capable engine.
Yes that's a valid point. As I said in the video I am kinda nitpicking because the car is so good. I still would've preferred the LT1, but the engine it has is still very good
For me, a #5 would be: the BMW M3. I've held this opinion even before I started working at a BMW dealership. The ATS-V seems to be a stellar car! But in some aspects, the M3 can be better (infotainment system an easy one). Even in the ways the ATS-V is better, that M3 elephant almost tries to take away the thunder. I do think the ATS-V sounds better though :) (though I'd love for it to have some DCT farts)
The chief engineer gave a pretty detailed response on how they tried the LT1 but the LF4 out tested it, mainly weight distribution. It may be the same platform as the Camaro but handling is better in the ATS for this reason. Plus it was nice to see how they furthered their v6/turbo technology in order to get more w less displacement. Only downside is the sound.
I think its that turbo lag. 3 Cylinders pumping 1 turbo a piece sucktastic lol... If I'm not mistaken that CTS is pretty heavy as well so it puts a lot of strain on the motor trying to move that weight and spool the 2 turbos but, I bet when you get it going it moves pretty good: )... Now, you may have to talk to your dad but I believe there's 2 vehicles we need to see videos of burning out and doing donuts ; ) ....did some quick research its about 3,500 LB's. I'm Pretty sure that's why it's difficult to start it moving.
I know that. You were complaining about it not having a V8. You should have bought the CTS-V if you wanted the V8. I have an ATS 3.6 Performance and it is a beast to just be a V6! Great choice of car though!!! It def. isn't your father's Cadillac! A guy from my hometown has the world's fastest CTS-V. Check him out. Search Jeff Hagaman.
Funny that you said "not your fathers Cadillac", because it is actually my dads car haha. Would be nice for this to have the NA V8 found in the base C7/Camaro SS, and then the CTS-V have the SC V8 in the Z06/ZL1
Oh, that is awesome. I wish I could talk my dad into buying one. That is my dream car and he can afford it better than I can. Enjoy it! That would be a killer inheritance.
That V-6 is better for Turbo charging. If you want the v-8 Cadi then buy that model. What makes the v-6 so Special ?? .... It is basically the rebirth of a fabled Road Warrior that was born in the Buick camp back in the Mid 80's. It schooled Cadillac, and Chevy on how things should be done. the only reason i would get this car is for the engine lol the horsepower gains this car gets by simply downpipes and tune is crazy... if it had the corvette engine u would have to spend 7k on supercharger to even think of the gains u can get on this ats with simple downpipes and tune
Not really. Long tube headers/intake/cams to name a few cheap mods that will give you good power gains in a big domestic V8. But yes the twin turbo setup does make it very tuneable
Speedaholics Are u kidding lol an ATS-V only requires a downpipe ($500), intake ($400) and tune ($500) thats only about $1400 to make some really decent gains in an ATS-V i own a vette and headers alone is already ($2000+) not to mention intake, cam, tune and the cost of installing all of those.
I agree, I have an ATS-V and have had many vettes.. but the fact that this is a 10 sec car with a tune and downpipes is pretty dope. A cam isn't exactly cheap, an yes headers are like $2000
I believe the ATS V is faster than the M3 and the C63, and more technologically advanced too. Plethora of stability controls, best chassis in the class, magnetic suspension, better steering. The German cars will always have the better infotainment systems and quality interiors though
Yeah I'd say the performance on this is the best in it's class, and I wouldn't say always in terms of infotainment, but in this scenario the German competition is definitely better
Where did you get this information about shutting down (deactivation) cylinders in the LT1? Are the LT1 motors in the second gen V Cadillacs- 2009 to 2015 CTS-V?
DOD is bullshit. You gain maybe 10% in gas mileage, and the LT1 is having lifter failure like crazy. My ATS-V gets 31 mpg highway on E85. Good luck getting that in the LT1.
The only reason I don't own this car is because they didnt put an LS7 in it. (or any other Lx) To make matters worse, new head of GM is watering down the V line.
If they would have put a v8 in this car it would out perform the cts v and they couldn't do that and out perform the c7 also shit ive beat at least 4 C7corvettes in mine now with the v6 tt !
Speedaholics why would they put a bigger longer LT1 V8 in the ATS when the LF4 produces the same amount of power while being more compact. The ATS platform is designed around a V6. The bigger LT1 would have an impact of the ATS V handling characteristics. An LT1 wouldn't make the car any faster
I said in the video the LT1 would sound better and (most likely) give better reliability, although you do bring up a good point about being more compact
They should’ve put digital dash like CTSV
You can change it

So true what you said about not seeing many! Such a shame it's not selling well

I came to this conclusion from driving the car obviously. Your opinion, not mine
@@Speedaholics your a jerk man!
Weird I had no problems with the MT on this car in test drives. I even had no problem taking off while idling. No stalls. There's usually an adjustment period when jumping into a new MT car but this one was fairly seamless.. Thanks for the review.
Strange, maybe it's just me, but I always have to adjust a bit to it.
as Cadillac stated in their debut of the Ats-V it was to beat/compete, with the euro (turbo6) group. during development there was a rumor the LF4 TT was going in the C8. LF4 is a great motor.
You can’t compare it to a Lt1,you should of got a CTS V
Weird, I had a 2013 ATS 2.0T manual and now have a 2017 ATS-V manual and they're both ridiculously easy to heel-toe compared to any of the cars I've had in the past (including two Porsches and a number Corvettes (1 C3, 1 C5 and 2 C6s).

Good color. I hope they improved the DOD on the Gen 5 V 8s.
Thanks for the love man! I Enjoyed watching some quick videos of yours, nice to see other youtube channels growing as well. Just subbed as well
+E's Garage thanks a bunch man!
I agree with your first point. This car would definitely be better with an LT4 or LS1, or any LT or LS motor for that fact. The car still sounds good with a TT V6.
Yeah the sound is good for a V6, would be better with an LT/LS though haha
The suspension geometry is the reason why the LT4 wasn't put into it and won't fit. While the ATS is similar to the Camaro there are a few differences that allow the Camaro to fit the V8 in the engine bay.
True
Not to mention that you can easily get these to 600 hp with minimal cost vs the LT4 would take upwards of 4 times the cost for the same HP/TQ gains.
The dead pedal is too big. Sometimes I hit it if my foot is too far left on the clutch pedal. Wish it was about 1/2 of the size it is.
The gripe about the turbo 6 is silly, that's what the CTS-V is for (V8)....and it's not like they slipped in a V6 after the car was bought... It looks so bad ass! I love that color. I agree, a V8 would have been better though
Yea the color is nice and thanks haha

+EA40 I don't think the M3 is a reason to hate this car though, both are great
Thats weird. I thought for sure they had the same engine as the Camaro/Corvette. Did they used to?
No it's a brand new car so it got this brand new engine. The CTS-V has been around for a while and typically gets the highest Corvette engine
the lt1 is too big and it would make the car front heavy.
+Cpt Awesome747 maybe, but the ATS is the same platform as the Camaro and the Camaro gets the LT1
The chief engineer gave a pretty detailed response on how they tried the LT1 but the LF4 out tested it, mainly weight distribution. It's called a CTS-V. Oh, and BTW, the ATS-V is a M3 killer! Just saying. Google it!
What are you talking about lol, this is a ATS-V, not CTS-V. And yeah I agree, it's a great car compared to the M3. Beats it in most areas

BUT you do not want cylinder deactivation in the V8 as that is a recipe for turning that engine into a grenade. Active Fuel Management (AFM) is crap.
exactly lol most people that have them delete them

Very true!

Yeah true haha
Yeah but the old V8 M3 had terrible gas mileage and no torque down low
S Saini ok sure but the LT1 doesn't have those problems, as I stated in the video lol. Plenty of torque and good gas mileage when you want it
Speedaholics why would they put a bigger longer LT1 V8 in the ATS when the LF4 produces the same amount of power while being more compact. The ATS platform is designed around a V6. The bigger LT1 would have an impact of the ATS V handling characteristics. An LT1 wouldn't make the car any faster
