I am an ATSV owner and agree with much of what you said about the interior. Its ok..but for $72k I would have expected it to be more refined. Cue is not that bad. It’s pretty simple so I don’t understand what most peoples issues are with it. As a daily driver it’s great to take on road trips, or drive to the track and flog it it hard. I think that is where most people who drive it fall in love with it...that’s the ATSV’s real sweet spot. Thanks for the review!
I just traded my 16 M4 for a 19 ATS-V (both 6mt). I think your review is spot on. I enjoy the day to day comfort of the V, even if the interior is a notch below the BMW. The performance metrics are close enough it just comes down to personal preference. The manual in the ATS-V also has no lift shifting which is great fun. For me, the M4 performs so well, it kind of feels sterile. I feel like the Caddy has more character.
I love my '17 ATS-V sedan...iit gets so much respect on the road -- everyone seems to love it, as even in metro Detroit you rarely see an ATS-V on the road.
"For me, the M4 performs so well, it kind of feels sterile." I disagree with that. The ATS-V's handling is capable and considered to be the best in class by many, but it's all down to being augmented with brakes and you can never turn that system completely off. The F30 M3/M4 actually feel more raw and hot-roddy with their stability control off and their flawed characteristics become visible as opposed to the ATS-V that always hides them with that augmentation. The true nature of the chassis is never revealed to you.
The caddy is awesome I have always purchased corvettes when it comes to performance which I still have but the caddy is awesome!!!!!!!! Cudos to GM and cadillac engineers for giving us this car !
I have a CTS V-Sport I just recently got it tuned it's been hands on tuned via HP Tuners on E47 (50% 91 octane and 50% E85) and it makes 529WHP and 533 Ft. LBS with just a drop in K&N filter and muffler delete, besides that it's all factory. It's pretty hot right now where I live, in the 100's. Once it cools down those numbers will certainly go up a lot more. For a daily driver it's a blast to drive. She eats well on WOT, hooks on a launch well for a factory suspension car.
Good grief...there’s nothing special about the F30 (BMW) interior. I own one, and it’s widely acknowledged as one of the poorest interiors in its class. Honestly, the only real letdown with the ATS interior is the gauge cluster, which is horrific.
To me, the design of the Cadillac interior makes it feel cheap. Glossy plastic, angular AC vents, swooshes/swoops across the dash. BMW's design is simpler but more elegant.
They now have a digital swap you can do to upgrade the cluster. The one thing stopping me from getting a ats-v has been solved aftermarket. Im so glad tbh
*Warning* I've cross shopping this two cars, if you are a tall guy 6'4" and plan to track it watch out. With a helmet I can not sit up in the ATS V coupe with sunroof. ATS V sedan I can! M4 with helmet, sunroof I can sit up but a tiny bit tighter than the ATS V sedan with sunroof. ATS V no sunroof, plenty of room. I haven't tried M4 without a sunroof yet.
The only downfall of the ATS-V is they gave up on it too early. Should’ve kept the sedan and mixed the coupe. The CT4 styling isn’t nearly as identifiable as the old styling, but I get making something less polarizing; you either love the old ones or you don’t, very little in between.
Don't forget you have about a 100 lb difference in passenger weight also. I'm sure that made a huge difference. The only real way to compare these cars would be to drive both without passengers on and off the track.
Just discovered your channel. Great job, you’re very well spoken and eloquent. Would love to test these two back to back like you did. Subbed and keen for more!
Seems similar to my experience. When I test drove an ATS V coupe 2 things stood out to me, how crappy the interior was for it's price and how easy it was the break traction (even in dry). It was really fast too! Honestly I wanted to like it more than I did though.
Snow_White_MR2 weird how impressions can be so different. In warm and dry conditions these cars hook extremely well. Like mash the peddle from a stop and it just hooks. How can anyone expect traction to be good in cool wet conditions? Interior is good...love all the alcantara.
@@JamesAMG does it have a launch control? If it does it might hook better with that, and I didn't try it. That said with a sudden stab of the pedal even at a 30 roll I could peel out. The interior over all wasn't bad, but the center of the steering wheel really brothered me. It was a cheap feeling, hard obviously plastic piece. I couldn't understand why the thing right in front of my face looked worse than my 93 Toyota, Mazda3 or even the Ford Fiesta Titanium. Still a cool car, and was rooting for the different option. Just didn't do it for me.

Since the value of both have sank like a brick,do you think an ATS-V or a CTS V-Sport would be better? The ATS costs $100 more for insurance for me but I know its faster
ATS-V looks neglected. Matter of fact the tires are several pounds underinflated (even after your drive) maybe next time inflate the ATS-V tires to the correct pressures for the street... it makes a difference.
@@Zygrene Gotcha. And yeah lol I took a break from car stuff in general for a while. I've been catching up on some of your videos though. Glad to see you thriving.
@Trevon Adams No need to insult me and then tell me what I have driven and what I have not. what you "believe" is also wrong the M4 starts off nearly 200 pounds lighter than the ATS-V as a simple google search can tell you this. The M-DCT is just a better transmission because it was designed for M cars not a crossover like the 8 speed in the GM cars. If you also watch technical videos on the F8x platform you will realize how rigid the chassis is.
@zygrene Hey, I have new tires on the V and would like a rematch. He had fresh rubber & i had killed mine at Thunderhill the previous day. Call me so we can get an update.
Very nice comparo! The ATS-V is very compelling though the M4 is the standard. I have a question: I have a pair of 2007’s (Accord Coupe V6 6spd and Acura TL Type S 6spd)...if I had a budget of $40K what should I replace them with? I’d like a European sport sedan/coupe with a manual transmission if possible. Keep up the good work man!
Maybe a manual transmission Genesis G70 or new 2020 Accord with the 290hp 2.0T Manual could be options. Or you maybe give the AWD manual Subaru WRX or WRX STi with 268hp and 305hp respectively a chance.
The ATS V is so bad inside for 2016 model yeah. GM plastic everywhere. Yikes. The ATS V is only interesting with a manual, GM slushboxes of this era a poor at best. V6TT sound is key at best. Not a performance car sound. Chasis is fantastic though
