Yeah the call came after Townsend had already hit the ball so it didn't affect her. It's still shocking that the chair umps don't have the ability to quickly review the video footage just to make sure they get the details right. If the broadcast can do it for the ppl watching at home, surely they can find a way to let the umps do it too
I don’t see how an umpire can argue that a call affected a player making a half-volley in general, unless the line umpires called it before the ball bounced-there simply isn’t enough time between the bounce and the shot. If the call did come before the bounce, umpires should automatically replay the point and clarify it’s due to the noise from the line judge during play, regardless of the disputed line call. But I’ve never seen this happen, and I honestly don’t understand why.
how it’s possible that kenin didn’t receive a code violation, she sweared against the umpire and the supervisor and I mean it was kind of obvious that she wanted to delay the game just to interrupt lucia’s confidence and momentum
Not really, what the clip doesn’t show is that they did have a rain delay immediately after they told Sofia to go back on court. So she was right it was unplayable. She won after the rain delay not after the incident.
"It's the worst mistake ever." ...EVER? I mean, a fan was able to get close enough to STAB A PLAYER ONCE, that seems like a bigger mistake than a close in/out call. lol
I was shocked when I saw Gauff arguing with the umpire because Iga drank water right after cleaning her hands, like it would change anything if the umpire started the clock earlier
Even if it was like a 1-2 seconds difference, which wouldn’t have changed anything, because Iga had a lot of time to serve, this just shows what Coco focuses on instead of the game
1:03 Siegmund is absolutely right here. The rule is basically "You can hit the 'offending/questionable' shot and then stop play provided you don't hit the next shot from the opponent.' The commentators point of 'it's certainly in there's no doubt about that' is not the point. My only question is: Does the umpire have the right to refuse to check a mark pointed out by a player as per the rules?
0:25 You can't play the ball and then challenge the mark 4:35 You can play the ball and then challenge the mark 5:35 You CAN'T play the ball and then challenge the mark This is a bit ridiculous, honestly. WTA and ATP should have a clearer definition and implementation on this rule
My opinion: Players should have the right to play the ball and then look at the mark. 1st: its the refs job to call the ball out, not the player to be divided between playing and calling out because he/she is supposed to challenge immediately. 2nd: fundamentally, the first player who played the ball out should loose the point. So if the 2nd player takes her time to play the ball properly and then challenge, I still see it as fair
It is not. It is something like a ritual, each player does some particular stuff every time, Iga looks to the sky to look at a bright spot before her serve.
The umpire checked that it was out, the point went to Wozniacki Errani is complaining that Wozniacki hit the drop shot and THEN wanted to challenge the ball (it's not allowed, you need to call it immediatly). But on the video we can see that Wozniacki kinda stopped playing and asked for the challenge almost immediately, so good call (in my opinion)
@@Hugo-gc8jmwhat!? That was a terrible call. Wozniacki didnt stop the play. She hits a drop shot in the net and after that she raises her hand to make a challenge. That is not acceptable.
