    I'm guessing not a lot of people know the rule but surprisingly, J Zhang was right on this one, correctly seeing what happened (even though she wasn't exactly the best at communicating it). Foot faults are fair game as soon as the motion starts, not just when you hit the ball. If you rewatch Pliskova's serve, you can clearly see her back foot is over the center line when she tosses the ball. But even then you have to wait until the ball is struck before calling it since in theory, you can catch the ball and start over (and then there would be no serve to call a foot fault on lol).
    If you need a great example of this rule being explained to a player, look up the exchange between Nick Kyrgios and James Keothavong at Wimbledon. Keothavong explains it perfectly and succinctly.

    • @Turboajd
      @Turboajd 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I‘m a volleyball ref, in volleyball if you‘re doing a jump serve the place where you leave the floor is crucial. With the serve of Pliskova, her foot was clearly not overstepping the middle when she hit the ball. Is it actually where you start? If i am clearly overstepping the base line, throw the baal backwards and do a step back to hit the serve, that would also be called a foot-fault?

    • @SkyDragon006
      @SkyDragon006 18 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@Turboajd Correct! You would be committing the foot fault during the ball toss, which is considered part of the service motion.

    I think that a lot of tennis players are a little too soft. They claim that literally everything distracts them, if somebody in the audience sneezes theyre like "omg, i cant serve in these conditions". Compare that to the things they do in the audience on fotball matches, and its like 2 worlds.

    • @mattjagar6324
      @mattjagar6324 หลายเดือนก่อน +11

      Your partially right but tennis is a game of concentration and reaction. If you are even slightly distracted you will lose the point. Some players definitely do take it to seriously sometimes

    • @rcrk51ten

      @mattjagar6324 well, the same concentration is required when you shoot free throws in basketball or shoot a penalty in football, and there's 20.000 people screaming and whistling. They don't complain about that when they miss, it's seen as just a part of the game

    • @Jitesh108
      @Jitesh108 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@excentrik5725 it’s a fair point but I do understand where Matt is coming from, if it’s consistently noisy then players won’t complain, but if it’s it consistently quiet and then somebody makes some noise, it can be distracting. White noise vs sudden change in noise.

Advantage after wrong call is one of the last biig judgement calls for umpires - really separates the mens from boys and women from girls umpire wise

    • @ryantraniam
      @ryantraniam 24 วันที่ผ่านมา

      No, the umpire made the correct decision. Siegemund put her hand up to challenge the call. She lost the challenge. Therefore she loses the point. For example, if my opponent hits a serve and I challenge it, is it a replay if the ball is in? Nope, I lose the point.
