fun fact about vdy. I think the avg monthly dividend is actually 11.5 cents/mth. One month it will pay you 9cents per share the then another month it'll pay you 14 cents per share. Probably because its so heavily weighted in the Canadian banks.

How is Vanguard 2.48% a good yield if the inflation in 2021 was 4.2%? On average, taking the last 4 years' average inflation this is barely tracking just above the inflation rate. There are other much better options for income dividend, pretty stable and probably more than double than what Vanguard is offering.

Hey everyone, I'm completely new to investing and I'm here to learn! Just based on this video I'm not sure what the advantage of investing is. In one example if I have $100,000 in one of these ETF's and receive a annual return of 0.38% minus the MER fee it's about $300. How do people get wealthy investing? I understand many do so I'm simply asking out of pure ignorance of course. Is this a case of it takes money to make money, in order to become wealthy?

    • @TheReelMinecraft

With the REIT ETF only having around a dozen holdings, folks might be better off purchasing a few of the top 10 individually. They'd most likely get a better dividend payout and wouldn't have to worry about the MER. If the ETF had like 40-50+ holdings, that'd be another story.

@@to3sted248 Dividend yields, usually expressed as percentage, is what a company might pay out to shareholders. It's usually a small amount per share. Not all stocks or ETFs offer dividends, and, similar to the worth of a stock on an exchange dividends can fluctuate (although, in my limited experience, they don't fluctuate often, or by much; last 10 months 2-3 ETFs have dropped 1 cent, but 5-6 have gone up a couple cents). Once you establish the amount of shares you want, then you can use the dividends as added income. Put them in your TFSA and you will pay 0 tax as long as it's Canadian stocks.

With an ETF you theoretically have less risk as several stocks would have to fall/fail to get a loss. If you buy just one you are riding one "good" stock hopefully. More risk should hopefully give more reward. I'm a little more risk averse so I have a lot of ETF's with a smattering of companies I am interested in or have faith in.

Part of the benefit is a larger exposure for a lower cost. If you were to get even one of each stock in an ETF it would cost you a fair amount to get such a variety vs the ETF. It especially helps if you want to be part of a certain sector without having to invest a lot of money.

I just started my portfolio on questrade, currently holding XGRO/BTCC.B
Noob Question: Does it make sense to add more ETFs in my portfolio? Im afraid of me doubling up on some of the same holdings. Not sure if this makes sense.

depends how much money your putting in monthly, if you're putting in 100 bucks a month it doesn't make sense to diversify that much IMO, but if you're putting in 1000+ a month yes you may want diversify, but never go crazy, i see some people that have 20k invested and its invested in 30 stocks, that makes no sense, you can't PROPERLY track 30 stocks, sure you can look at the charts, so you'd be smart picking 5-10 good stocks that you know inside and out and that work for you and just every month buy more, I have stocks that every single month i buy more of it.

I hold both VDY and XEI. I was contemplating whether to invest in just one of them as they are essentially the same. Not sure what I should do just now, may be I'll invest in only XEI as it's much diversified than VDY.
A question that I have is if I have invested in these ETFs through a trading platform like WealthSimple, when is the MER fees get deducted? Is it deducted from the dividend that they issue or do they take the fee directly from my account?

9 cents a month for 39$? means 2.7% by year? Seems not very impressive.

Thanks for the education. Tiny criticism: I must read not listen (you misidentify the ticker many times as if you are confused about letters)

Great video., my question is, should these ETF's be bought on Questrade or Wealthsimple? Questrade has no fees on ETF's but I think Wealthsimple doesn't have fees on Canadian stocks, so do they have fees on ETF's?

Seems that I’ve missed your notification. As I’m not very active on social media. J’en suis sincèrement désolé.
To answer your question, after the video, I did buy some ETF and I also started to do some research.
My portfolio is not bad this time around. I’m pleasantly surprised.

What’s the diff between buying VDY vs the actual stable? company

    • @mrmountainhiker9646
      @mrmountainhiker9646 3 ปีที่แล้ว

It can cost quite a lot if you were going to buy all 40 of those companies individually...most trading platforms will charge you a trading fee for each security you buy so it can add up. Buying an ETF such as VDY, you're getting all these 40 securities with just ONE purchase.
