  • Welcome to this week’s 5 Minute Friday! Another busy fortnight with lots to report.
    Indooroopilly Library Upgrade
The much-loved Indooroopilly Library is getting a big upgrade! This refurbishment is a win for everyone as Brisbane City Council and Indooroopilly Shopping Centre are working together to deliver a revitalised library at a reduced cost to ratepayers. It’s all about making sure the community space remains modern, accessible, and affordable.
By keeping the library in the heart of the Indooroopilly Shopping Centre until at least 2035, we’re continuing to preserve our lifestyle here in the western suburbs whilst also reducing the burden on rate payers.
    Witton Barracks
Based on the number of requests from residents, Council is pleased to confirm that the lights around Witton Barracks have been fixed. This is a great win for the community, as it provides increased security.
Perrin Park Dog Off Leash Area
As promised, our popular Perrin Park dog off leash will be getting some love (in the form of upgrades) and I am seeking your feedback on the design plans, please. Two design options being shared, include the wish list items (feedback) from the previous community consults, offering solutions to the most raised concerns:
    🪑 Installing more seating
⛱️ Adding shade shelter to small dog off leash area
🐕 Moving fence line for small dog off-leash area to make it bigger
🌳 Adding more trees to the dog park
I will be holding a Community Pop- up on Wednesday, 30th October, from 5-6pm to discuss the options provided. If you're unable to attend, you can also share your thoughts through the online form: forms.gle/v64x...
    Toowong Bowls Club
Council is currently undertaking works to remove end of life infrastructure at the old Toowong bowls club, to provide more open space, in Toowong. As the area has flood zone status and is sadly flood prone (having flooded numerous times) working sustainably and ensuring the site has longevity is paramount.
The works currently being undertaken include earth works, minor re-levelling and retaining walls installation. Councils’ contractor started this week and is anticipating completion in mid to late November pending weather and site conditions.
From the extensive community consultation, the feedback received (over 300 responses) provided overwhelming support to continue offering a sporting activity at the site. Council is now developing a plan to make this happen and we will have an update shortly when more transpires.
Our record of delivering vibrant new opportunities has shaped Brisbane's incredible lifestyle, and the Council aims to revitalise this space with something fresh to make it even better.
