    Good to see the inclusion of greenery and making the building surrounds more green and liveable as well. Especially important for walking, cycling or scooting in Brisbane’s climate.

    The "jungle" built under the overpasses is incredibly cleaver! They took a space people normally want to walk through quickly (or not walk through at all), and made it a beautiful, comfortable space. There are a lot of car overpasses we could apply that design concept to in Denver, Colorado...

    • @xxwookey
      @xxwookey 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I presume that works because there are a lot of understorey plants that don't mind the low light levels (they normally live under much bigger trees in the jungle). Denver is not tropical so needs plants that don't mind it being -8 to +8C for 3 months _and_ not get much light. There are some of those but it would be less lush, I think. Some nice ones need ericacious (acid) soils (Rhodedenron, Pieris, Enkianthus). Certainly more greenery is good, but it's not trivial to find plants that will thrive in that environment.

    Nice to see architects thinking about the processes of how people will use the building in a more sustainable way.
    All the technologies are proven and will give everyone involved confidence investing in the building . Maintenance and refurbishment of the building should be straight forward in the future.
    Buildings like this help the building industry invest and train.

    I like your positivity and it's good to highlight these sensible measures to improve energy efficiency, but it would be good to also acknowledge the sustainability shortcomings of this building - just so that nobody walks away thinking that constructing buildings with massive amounts of concrete, steel and glass is sustainable.

    A lot of balconies there that could support solar panels (decent looking ones) as the barriers to add to the power generation.

      I was thinking the same. vertical bifacial solar panels as the balcony walls can look beautiful. This building looks far from net zero. Solar just covering the communal electricity is a step in the right direction and should be encouraged , but not that exciting. A net zero tower block would be exciting.

    We had the pleasure of Rent in Brisbane for 9 months while our new house on the Sunshine Coast was being built, we spent most days exploring and we grew to love the city, that’s quite a revelation as we were rusted on Melbourne people. Our new house is in an over 50’s community the house has 8 stars, including a Tesla Powerwall, there is Tesla 3 available for residents use and 4 acres of lakes and gardens. Recently bought a BYD Seal that runs on solar, the powerwall runs the house.

    I've just moved into a new build detached house in Milton Keynes and electric car charging wasn't even considered for the developers 👎
    It wasn't easy to get my car charger (which I had removed from my previous house) installed in the new house because the mains box was placed on the opposite side of the house to the driveway.
    Also, no installation (or option from the developer) to install solar, home battery, ground/air source heat pump, etc.
