The idea of using Ballsac stadium is an absolute joke If it ends up being the winning option, Brisbane, Queensland and Australia as a whole will have our reputation damaged irreparably.
Dont want a OLD stadium. Dont want to be embarressed on the world stage.....WE NEED A NEW 80,000 + staidum the gabba made sense and only a few Nimby's got there way!
One of the incentives to offer cheap public transport fees, is Cross River Rail. With people working from home, the Business Case didn’t quite stack up. How can we continue to justify billions of infrastructure investment? By increasing the number of commuters. Well, here’s a way! Both parties would have a strong interest in numbers stacking up for a mega project like this and the lobby that sits behind it.
The 50c public transport thing is weird to me. I grew up in an outer suburb with near zero public transport on weekends. Always had a car. Never had a period of using public transport regularly. Bought an ev before the 50c fares announced. Charging for free most days, so no cost savings and the extra time via public transport hurts.
LNP Are going to cute the tax rate for their resource aka mining mates. Thus creating a even bigger black whole for the budget. Guess where there will save money....
I have to watch this as the news about Brisbane City Council and Logan City in City of Moreton Bay where I live is hopeless. City of Moreton Bay is hopeless at marketing itself. It is left off all the maps and people skip straight to Sunshine Coast from Brisbane. Nobody knows City of Moreton Bay exists or where it is. They confuse it with Redland Bay as it is also on Moreton Bay offshore.
Moreton Bay isn't a city. It's the Moreton Bay Regional Council. Redland Bay, Ipswich, Logan, and Brisbane are all cities. People forget about Moreton Bay Regional Council because it's a dump. It's synonymous with Dakabin, Deception Bay, Caboolture, and Caboolture-lite (Morayfield). The only somewhat redeeming areas are Narangba and Mango Hill, where about 50% of each are acceptable. It's a really stretched out region, like Logan.

I hope that with this extension of the metro network it's going to be cheaper to get to the airport. The cost of taking the train to the airport is despicable.

Brisbane has a long way to go to reach "good" public transport fares aside. I can see buses being piled up at peak hours and with more people using public transport, it will only get worse, especially during the Olympics. Brisbane needs more train and metro lines and with higher frequency and reliable timing to act as a backbone instead of buses. Buses cannot bear the majority of commuters. Any good public transport system has trains/underground as backbone, then complemented by tram lines, which are then supported by buses. I am assuming that there are various logistical, financial, and engineering obstacles that make it near impossible to implement such a system, but things can still be improved. Especially, what is lacking is any transport across outer suburbs. I'm tired of having to take an hour trip in and out of CBD just to get from Moorooka to Mt Gravatt, which would only take 15 minutes by car. It doesn't make any sense. I am honestly worried about the Olympic Games. 8 years is not a lot in the scale of the event. Plus, as you mentioned, they need to build a long term infrastructure that will serve the community long after the games. Sydney managed to pull it off to a certain extent.
At the risk of sounding like an old fuddy-duddy, e-scooters are a dangerous editions to our streets. As a pedestrian on the city streets I would love to see some regulation e.g. speed limits near pedestrians.
I've been speaking with active transport advocates for an upcoming video (including e-scooter and pedestrian advocates), and the most recurring theme to come out is the need for dedicated cycling/e-scooter lanes to separate pedestrians from wheeled transport. There are speed limits and other regulations in place, however the main issue I see is the lack of enforcement.
You are not wrong..I saw on the news where Queensland Rail are blaming the 50cent fares and the volume of people trying to catch a train because some people are falling and slipping over or falling down stairs at various stations either using their phones or not leaving enough time.(one was actually trying to carry a bike up the escalator at Roma Street and fell backwards bike and all). People are also complaining they don’t have enough buses, trains and parking to cope with the volume of passengers taking advantage of the 50 cent fares.. As for Star Casino..Seven News give them a free plug every night by having them in the background of the news desk. Just don’t get me started on the Olympics…let Scotland have them like the Commonwealth Games proposal being bandied around…or a private jet on taxpayers to deliver a birthday cake….instead of a local baker making and delivering the cake directly.
The brisbane metro extension north is along the exact corridor the state government will be tunneling for a toll road. Maybe the 2 groups could get together and achieve a world class system instead of bus lanes along the busiest road with 30 sets of traffic lights. Especially considering that the state government abandoned its bus lanes 400 m from the largest shopping centre in the Southern Hemisphere 🤦. Nobody in council had any thoughts about how they were going to use the corridor when the state government said they blew their budget and merged the bus lanes into general traffic 2 blocks from the major interchange.😡 As for a westward extension, the obvious answer that should already be in construction is UQ lakes to Indooroopilly/Toowong. Council built a dedicated bridge to UQ but UQ won't even let them run busses through their campus. Shameful
Buses are cheap in the big scheme of things, paying for the drivers is what costs. Reallocating old Buses is not a thing. They will simply not replace out of date buses.
Both of them couldn't organise a root in a brothel ,build a new stadium with better transport to the venue for future generations, the population is not going to stop growing.
Perhaps they should consider replacing the Gabba stadium with a new site. It may cover a major part of the cost of a purpose built stadium if it is developed as high rise residential development. The existing site is too small and public transport is poor.
50c fairs for totally shyte public transport, bugger that. Cheaper rego would have helped alot more people with cost of living instead of 50c Bus fairs.😒
I don't think it was entirely about cost of living relief. Getting more people on public transport means less people in cars on the road, which also helps those that have to drive (due to the poor level of access to public transport, or out of necessity due to the nature of their work etc).

Let them walk away with the hospital. It is a ploy developers use all the time. There's the door. Government has a role in lifting the barrier to entry to developers. If they are not competent enough they have to be educated.
Give me one good reason why Stephen Miles should not be the next Premier - QSAC as the Olympic stadium. It was a joke when they built it in the first place.
Fares only contribute to around 15% of Translink's operation costs (less than 30% in most cities) so there won't be a massive impact on revenue, especially when you consider the increase in passenger numbers as a result of lowering fares.
who would have thought, multi billion dollar project getting designed and redesigned over and over just so public wealth can get funneled away into the pockets of developers.
The Gabba is the only choise and the best one! If people don’t like it, just move out of the city you dummies, and get the poor kids out of that little school, and combine it with cooparoo high! Lots of great room for sports and a beautiful creek for kayaking. And it’s only 5 to 10 min away.

I love the Brisbane chanel
Living on the Gold Coast. I wish we had public transport. Traffic is getting ridiculous & there’s a very minimal transport system…unless you’re just going up & down the Gold Coast highway. I would love to use public transport & to pay 50c as well.
I didn't know the situation down there was so similar to up here.
The idea of using Ballsac stadium is an absolute joke If it ends up being the winning option, Brisbane, Queensland and Australia as a whole will have our reputation damaged irreparably.
beyond repair you mean
@@CheeseyBoi10That's what 'irreparably' means.
@@ElusiveTy oh....
Hoping they’ll make the bus routes also go circular around the city to make east-west travel from outer suburbs easier
Dont want a OLD stadium. Dont want to be embarressed on the world stage.....WE NEED A NEW 80,000 + staidum the gabba made sense and only a few Nimby's got there way!
Griffith Uni I think came out on top for purchasing the old Treasury building. Hopefully they'll be doing something innovative
We have 4 stadiums we could use right now, so it’s not an issue, Gabba, expo Reno, Suncorp, new Springfield stadium, Carrara there’s plenty!
Ooohhh i am looking forward to the goss on the casino weeeee!
Interesting thought.
Bring back Station Masters at railway stations in Brisbane they provided a vital service.
Need the costing on public transport & 50 cent fares, who picks up the tab, what percentage of the population use it.
Thanks, I'll be a little more detailed in future.
do we get 50c shares from Cairns to Brisbane? or just SE QLD, we feel left out for a reason
It's statewide.
The Olympics are awesome! At making Brisbane too expensive for the locals to survive in this city anymore.
Lol the minute the lnp get in the 50c fares are toast
Sounds good. BUT I honestly don't believe a word from politicians mouths.
@@GizmosBushEscapes I don't think anyone does! I just take what they say as a rough indication of what kind of people they want to please rather than a firm indication of what they actually plan to do.

I used to joke that the Treasury Building was where the government took people's money, and then nothing changed when it became the Treasury Casino. Guess I can't make that joke anymore.
I used to say the same. Griffith uni took my money, though!
No means of denied the improvement of public transport. Did the governor ever consider Uber or Taxi businesses.
Holding the Olympics in Brisbane is a big mistake. No other country wanted to host it so that’s why little Brisbane won it. It’s the biggest waste of money.
@@phyju What are the financial benefits for Brisbane locals?
@@TBN_24_Lucasnothing, more expensive housing
Main stream media is not telling the actual story of why Start Entertainment are struggling and there is websites like Hot Copper that have threads with information and some with links to validate the information. I hope the general public all become aware of the damage the state governments have done to the casino industry.
I'll take a look. I'm always open to looking at other angles and testing their validity.
I hope that with this extension of the metro network it's going to be cheaper to get to the airport. The cost of taking the train to the airport is despicable.
I agree, but at least for now, the airtrain is 50% cheaper than it was before the 50c fares came in. It will stay half-price for six months. Not sure what they'll negotiate beyond that.
Thats if you can trust anything a Poly says.
We a stadium that is in a good location for the games and for concerts and sports. Suncorp stadium is too close to residential areas.
Cancel the Olympics.
Absolutely
Vote LNP. Labor and Star are have been rubbing and tugging each other for years and the Star would hate to see it cancelled. Corrupt.
@@thatshizkafexplain to me a reasonable reason why anyone should vote LNP that they will actually do. Last time I checked they just killed our wildlife, decreased our wages and increased the crime rate somehow even tho that’s not there job
"We need a better stadium but no we won't be building a new one" is the political equivalent of the "No take, only throw" meme
I wasn't familiar with that meme (I am now). Yeah, it is in a way.
Can we get an update on the river please. 1. I’m curious to see if gov acknowledges how filthy it has been for so long. 2. Will we ever get an answer why it looks like that. 3. Plan of attack by 2030
Would rather them spend the investment in 50c fares on actual good public transport
@@aaron5703 That's really where the work needs to be done.
I absolutely agree with you regarding public transport.
one more lane bro. 🤣
@@BrisbaneChannel quite right, the rules maybe there, but I've never seen any enforcement. Thanks.
I agree the government doesn’t care about the Olympics only votes. But yes, maybe something will get done after the election.
Whoever designed the queen street warf casino entrance needs to be fired. A line up, to get into a casino? What a joke. Of course no one wants to go.
There is no cure for stupid
Make the Dogs racing vvenue the new Stadium @ Hamiliton
The brisbane metro extension north is along the exact corridor the state government will be tunneling for a toll road. Maybe the 2 groups could get together and achieve a world class system instead of bus lanes along the busiest road with 30 sets of traffic lights. Especially considering that the state government abandoned its bus lanes 400 m from the largest shopping centre in the Southern Hemisphere 🤦. Nobody in council had any thoughts about how they were going to use the corridor when the state government said they blew their budget and merged the bus lanes into general traffic 2 blocks from the major interchange.😡
As for a westward extension, the obvious answer that should already be in construction is UQ lakes to Indooroopilly/Toowong.
I think ppl would like a home over a stadium 🤔
Not making a decision is also a decision
Maybe we can reallocate the other forms of public transport... Like the trains this new Metrobus is competing with. Oh wait
Brisbane needs a major rail network upgrade. It is 20 years behind the times.
Needs a MAJOR!!!!! Roads and Hwy infrastructure upgrade first.
Oh QE2 Stadium, might as well dust off the old winking Matilda from 1982 then.

Let them walk away with the hospital. It is a ploy developers use all the time. There's the door. Government has a role in lifting the barrier to entry to developers. If they are not competent enough they have to be educated.

@@BrisbaneChannel yes it was. about that btw, myer was also interested in the site but Grifith got it because they offered to pay more for it.
Give me one good reason why Stephen Miles should not be the next Premier - QSAC as the Olympic stadium. It was a joke when they built it in the first place.
How are they going to improve the public transport system if they aren't charging normal fares for it? Money doesn't magically appear from the air.
Fares only contribute to around 15% of Translink's operation costs (less than 30% in most cities) so there won't be a massive impact on revenue, especially when you consider the increase in passenger numbers as a result of lowering fares.
Same funding that builds roads. As it should be, boomer.
@@thatshizkaf lol, I have to laugh at your 'boomer' insult. Kinda doesn't land.
who would have thought, multi billion dollar project getting designed and redesigned over and over just so public wealth can get funneled away into the pockets of developers.
And who actually pays for the transport service?
I suspect you already know the answer to that.
The Gabba is the only choise and the best one! If people don’t like it, just move out of the city you dummies, and get the poor kids out of that little school, and combine it with cooparoo high! Lots of great room for sports and a beautiful creek for kayaking. And it’s only 5 to 10 min away.
