Great video Joe, I own a 4910 and have done these modifications in this video. I was wondering what a base gasket delete would do to this stock saw as well..Any information on this is it worth the time to performance gain ?
A couple things i'd like to contribute: A lot of echo saws have baffles WITHIN the filter itself as well. I usually take some flush cutting electronics snips and knock that stuff back. There is a shindiawa part number for a different style exhaust deflector that I prefer that is on the equivalent shinny saw. More of an open "shark fin" deflector
Enjoy your videos. Someday I would like see what you can do with husqvarna 61. Would be nice to get some ideas to get more power out of these old saws. Thanks
Hey joe, can you do a dyno video on stock pipe mods? Specifically starting with stock and opening them up more and more to see where the power gains stop. Thanks
Took a second look and still didn't see what you were referring to as a "gear head deflector". Enjoy your love of tinkering, and Joe's dynos tells the truth. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from Oregon. No E

Love these videos Joe, I’ve gotten to the point I do a muffler mod of some sort to almost every saw I have now because the differences I’ve seen on your channel lol. Didn’t know about the intake boot mod for these saws so I’ll have to do that as well!
Merry Christmas Joe!. Could you not use a coil off another echo, strange how it is pulling back/ retarding at high rpm, yet you're saying it's unlimited coil. Wonder if the 452s coil is the same might not have that safety map built in as it's tad older saw🤔🤷🏻♂️
@@dynojoemods2764 if I get another 50cc saw I’m torn between a 501p and a 550xp. Had the Mk2 and liked it but I kinda like being able to adjust the carb myself.
@@backyardfirewood9852 Some people think the echo has lots of vibes coming from a mark 2 but if you like the feel of the echo they are lighter and make lots of power from a little 50cc
@@dynojoemods2764 That stuff doesn’t bother me. Plus, I’ve run the ported 4910’s from Charles and liked them. I like running my 620p’s so I like Echos for sure…. It’s just good to know that they can get to 4hp just by opening the muffler. Right now I have two 620p’s, one stock and one ported by CB. One day I want to get it over to you to dyno. I’ll probably sell the stock 620 as I don’t need to 60cc saws…
@@backyardfirewood9852 I make most of my living with the 501p, the vibes are not that bad, I hate bad vibration in tools and I use it all day, but we get along just fine, it's smooth in the cut, but you notice it if you hold the thing while it's idling for a while. Going from cut to cut getting the job done it's great, it's when you step back and think about the next move you either put it down or shut it off. 1st pull easy hot start every time all year. The thing has torque, mine still has the small tube thing in the exhaust and I run the supplied 20 inch bar with regular .325 chain all the time, mostly for reach but also occasionally full length through oak etc, sometimes early on it was my only saw, later on I'm not getting a bigger saw out just to make a few cuts when the 50cc can manage and then do the rest of the tree easy. Is it fast doing this? Not really. Does the chain need to be right? Yes. But it will do it and just keep on going without fuss. With the 16 inch bar and narrow kerf chain its fast, light, nimble, I really enjoy this combo. Good run time from the tank and strong oil pump/flow. Most importantly, tough and reliable, 3 years, hundreds of hours, gets rained on etc, never let me down once. All equipment gets premium fuel (low/zero ethanol) mixed with echo oil 50:1, I service and maintain it really well but it works hard for it. I find it pleasant and easy to work with all day. The next generation just needs 7310 type air filter, spring mounts not rubber and better exhaust deflection away from operator, but not a deal breaker for me. My 2 cents worth. Equally a friend runs husq 550's and is happy with them, bigger setup, employees use them, like them, they must hold up ok, I didn't like the feel so much and felt heavier overall, they use shorter bars only on them. Like any tool it's personal preference, what feels good in the hand and local dealer service/support if needed. Try both if you can.
I had great intentions of testing that, but sold the saw before I got to it. I will be finding another to try that out on. It may give a very slight bump in power, but will be making the power at a lower peak rpm. May not help cut times any
@dynojoemods2764 OK that does make sense. I enjoy seeing the little easy mods that require simple tools to perform. It would also be fun to see what a simple exhaust mod done with just a straight grinder would do. Thanks Joe.
Mods aside, any thoughts on a stock 501p vs the 590? Not a lot of straight forward comparisons out there if the supposed upgrades for the x series counters the 10cc difference.
I had fun great vid I'm working on trying to solve the coil issue on it hope to.break 7hp on muffler next time I head over
Still loving my ported saws. Great video on waking up the echos.
Excellent content Joe! Id like to see a read Beard saws foam filter kit on the 4910 / 501 P saws.

Love the Echo 4910! I picked one up recently for 20 dollars. Runs great
20 USD? Was it stolen?
Great video, love to see numbers on what mods actually do. CB builds a mean 4910!!
Merry Christmas!
Awesome job Joe, Merry Christmas!
Thank you! Merry Christmas to you and yours as well!!
Have a good holiday Joe.
Thank you. You too!
Nice video Joe; Hope you and your loved ones have a Merry Christmas!!
Great video! Ill be chopping out the guts of air filter elbow for sure. Merry Christmas! Stickers is a monster.
Sweet Christmas packages under the tree! Thank You Joe!
This is awesome information! Good video Joe.
Thanks for another great video Joe!

Got it! I'd call it an aluminum exhaust port. Cheers

Pretty cool, who is making pipes for stihl 261s ?
Holy cow, just an open muffler made a big difference! Dang near 1/2 hp for opening it up!
Does the 501p have an unlimited coil?
Yes, muffler mod really pep these saws up. 4910/501p coils are unlimited.

Do you thing a gasket delete is worth the effort on this saw? Awesome video. Thanks for sharing.

That coil issue needs addressed. I wonder if there is a non-limited coil that this saw could benefit from?
@richhoffman432 maybe a cs501p coil?

Nice, I have to do this
Hey Joe, have you ever had an Echo cs-5500 on the dyno?
Interesting to note that the pipe on CB "stickers" saw killed low RPM power and TQ
You gotta get an unlimited coil stihl coils are designed to Rev limit
So, the MM/AFM get this saw over 4hp? I just bought one and did the MM, hoping to NOT have to tune too much after the AFM later this week.
👍🏻👏🔥👍🏻👏
Do you have to rejet just doing the air cleaner and simple muffler mod?
Its always a good idea to check the tune when adding more airflow.
The echo coil is unlimited but it starts retarding the timing after 14000 rpm.
Do you have a 501 coil on it? Does it make a difference.
4910 and 501 coils are pretty much the same, and neither limit the rpm.
Would another brands coil not retard the spark to gain at higher rpms?
Has anyone tried adding a battery blower of some kind to a saw?
For a sort of forced induction? I've seen people try that on cars and crotch rockets before but ive never actually seen it work
