I've never seen a baseball player excoriate a coach in public like that with the coach meekly taking it.

So that was unfortunate for him. He ran full effort after he realized the ball wasnt caught.
I agree. He could have easily say "Ah, fuck it" and given up on the play upon realizing that the left fielder had rifled the ball back in, but he didn't. Instead, as soon as he realized he'd been mistaken about the ball being caught he gave it the ole' 100% college (professional) try.

Yea I pitched from little league to highschool and at age 13 I played travel baseball for coaches that played either college or pro. Now I never made it to the pro or college level but I was taught well by those coaches. But you are taught to never show your emotions on the field especially if your angry. Because if you do that on the mound well then the other team has gotten to you and they will make your misery much worse

A week before, I read in the Sporting News that a manager was hot because a pitcher tossed him the ball, rather than hand it to him. “I’m not out there to play catch with him.” So I extended my arm completely, and waited until he got to the mound, and he took it out of my hand. I wasn’t out there to play catch with a 50 year old. 🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪

IMO, this is a symptom of today's society. Rules and social norms don't apply to some people these days, and authority is afraid to enforce it because they aren't sure that they're safe.

Supposed to be adults and professionals. I get pitchers get frustrated, and honestly, I think the whole "showing up your manager" bit is overhyped here. Everyone knows why he's coming out. To me, the pitcher leaving early is more "I know I didn't do my job as well as I need to, I am getting out of thecpicture so my team snd manager can focus on getting out of the mess."
But I am not a pitcher or in the MLB. Maybe its just one of those unwritten rule things.
leaving early like that shows disrespect to the manager. while he’s walking to the mound if he’s gonna pull the pitcher often times they will signal to the bullpen to send in the relief pitcher
@@peterf.229 Yeah, I got that much from the broadcast guys. But why is it disrespectful? I honestly don't get it. I mean the entire stadium and all the people at home - well, those sober enough to still see - know why the manager is making the stroll. Its not to ask what snacks the errant pitcher wants waiting in the clubhouse after the game. Why the need for the bit of theater making the pitcher wait for him to get there and pretending he really wants to keep embarrassing himself, but the wise manager over-rules the protests and the pitcher finally and reluctantly departs. I have more rants about the topic, but I really want to focus and understand this point. I accept that is disrespectful. I just want to understand why. From where I sit, the pitcher leaving early is *more* respectful, indicating the pitcher accepts the manager's judgement that its time for him to be a spectator for the rest of the game even if his own feelings are otherwise.
@MGower4465 the manager might wanna give a reliever a few words of encouragement as he is being taken out so a player leaving the mound early basically tells the manager 'i don't wanna hear anything you have to say'
A lot of these guys have been babied their whole life due to their genetic gifting.

Just putting myself in that position, knowing I am not getting my job done that day, I wouldn't be all that welcoming of "a few words" be it criticism or encouragement right then. Just as well I learned early by baseball career was as a watcher, not a doer. My temperament is clearly unsuited.
