  • Join me for the first time we set up our pop-up camper: Forest River Rockwood HW276. Rockwood High Wall Series
This is the same as the Flagstaff HW27SC. After a few camping trips, it now takes us only about 20 minutes to set up!

I seriously don't know why people are commenting that this took too long. The video was only 43 minutes long, it was the first time he was putting it together and he was talking which slows things down. Putting a tent up and and everything that goes in it is a time consuming job and it is still just a tent. I think this is a sweet camper with all of the comforts of home. Great job!

Major props to the videographer. It was obvious that it's not easy following someone around with a camera whose putting up this high wall. The heavy breathing says a lot about the effort it takes. So well done, person with the camera! Thanks for hanging in there and capturing all that video. You deserve a star!!

We had a large pop-up for about 12 years. The first night of each trip I would turn on all the lights on inside walk around the outside of the trailer to close up anywhere light would come out of the points where the tent sealed to the trailer. We found that if you are using a fantastic fan the vacuum was enough to suck in any tiny flies that would be attracted to the light. When we did not, we would quickly realize how many bugs could get in within a very short time. Good luck and I hope you have as many years of fun as we had with ours.

A summary of the most common comments:
    1. The camera person is dying.
She was suffering from allergies, she's a trooper, not a hostage. It wasn't that distracting. Get over it.
    2. Way too long to set up/ changed my mind about buying one.
This was his first time setting it up, and he was explaining/showing things as he went. Actual setup time would have been half if he wasn't focused on making the video. It will get faster each time, and faster yet with his fiancee helping instead of filming.
    3. Way too much work, glad we have a snobmobile instead of this.
Pop ups work for some people, and the few extra chores are worth it for various reasons. Less storage space, more economical, easier to tow. There are pros and cons to everything. Why are you even watching this video if you already have a class whatever camper, and no interest in a pop-up?
Thank you for posting this video. I thought it was excellent, you did a fantastic job, and I really appreciate you taking the time from your camping trip to make content that this viewer found quite helpful, and entertaining.
As others have said, thank you for your service, and happy camping!

Nice pop up! We tent camped for almost 20 years and went to a 10' pop up when the kids were grown. No bathroom, no indoor kitchen. Basically it was a tent on wheels. We had the pop up for 5 years and went to a 30' travel trailer and oh my, but life is good! Our little pop up was a lot of work with very little indoor living space. Maybe if we'd had one like this we would have kept it longer. Enjoy!

Thank you for your service. Although it’s a beautiful pop up, it’s too much work to set up. In the mid eighties, my husband and I had a huge Starcraft pop up and it was not as difficult to set up. But then again we were thirty five years younger with three boys. Hope your fiancé is better soon.

Nope, you're right. I commented the same thing. We still have our 86 Coleman and it doesn't take half the time to setup. And yes, I understand the recording and talking time. I pointed out the differences in why it's taking a LOT longer. Just poor design.

This is the best choice for any younger family who want to get off the ground, yet enjoy the great outdoors. All those large windows open up for fresh air and a wide open view, while offering protection from the weather when desired. My wife and I owned a new Coleman Cheyenne back in 2007. Today with children grown, we have moved to a 2018 Winnebago Travato, after owning two Coachman Freedom Express camping trailers and a thirty-one foot C class Jayco motorhome. The simpler you can do it as you age, the better! KISS - keep it simple . . .but we are only in our seventies here!🤠🙏✝️

We did a week long trip this last October. The hottest week of October on record. Horrible thunderstorm the first night. Loved the AC and not a drop of water in the camper. We had been tent camping and both agreed that we wouldn't have stayed after the significant storm and heat if we were still in a tent. I agree, with everything opened up it still feels like close to nature and in a tent but with total dryness and AC when needed ! ( and microwave...stove...oven...bathroom...)

Thank you for sharing your camping trip. Excellent set-up shown with all of the details! You made it look so wiick and easy too! After the kids got bigger, downsized from a 41ft pull camper with 1 bedroom; to a 38 ft 1 bedroom + 1 bunkroom. But now, all of our sons are grown with homes of their own. My husband hasn't camped even once in the new one! I'm seriously thinking something like this, or a pop-up might be just what I need. Thank you very much! Nice work!

Thanks for sharing your first setup. Beautiful popup, my ex and I bought one years ago that also had the dinette slide. I loved it but it definitely was a challenge setting it up. It had legs that you pulled down and if you camped somewhere not level, we would have to dig to get them set in place. We loved our popup. I think our first time we set ours up, we got hung up in a traffic jam for a few hours. We had reservations but didnt get there till 10 at night. And it was raining. There was alot of arguing and laughs for years after that one. Eventually, we learned to work together and we could get all set up in 15 min. Enjoy!

Thank you have watched your video 3 times!! just upgraded to a HW27KS after owning and camping in a Fleetwood Westake for 11 years. I haven't had chance to camp in my new rig yet but your video has set me up nicely for my first set up. I have to say I am not impressed with the build quality from Forest River, but the floorplan & look is so fancy. Many thanks to the wonderful camera lady, way to hang in there and see it to the end!

I had a pop up and camped a few years in it. The set up and break down got old quickly. For about the same price we bought a somewhat compact 21 foot trailer with an electric slide out to make it wider inside. Much happier now, pull up to the camp site and just hit the button for the slide out and that’s about it. Hard sides, a real bathroom, much better insulation, etc. and at just 21 feet it fits in all of our favorite camp sites.

Pretty cool, I've seen those already set up, but I've never seen the High Wall in the process of being set up. As a kid we went from tent to pop up to small travel trailer, while the travel trailer was easiest set up, tents and pop ups can get into places travel trailers struggle with and are much easier to store when not in use. As of now I am a tent camper, something like this would work great for me. Wishing you and your lady many happy camping trips and fond memories of them.

We liked alot about yours. Ares came with no A/C heater. We camper in Missouri in February at 30 degrees outside with a electric heater and two large dogs. My son had A frame pop up with A/C and heat and him and his family came to our to get warm. The 1984 pop up had the most space out of the two. Enjoy camping!

My husband and I borrowed his parents pop up camper, and it wasn't near as hard as the one in the video. Now this was 30 years ago, and didn't have a bathroom or a pop out for the dining area. It was what is called a hard sided pop up. It had a queen size bed on one side and a double bed at the opposite end. Nice dining table, seating for four, and could be turned into a bed. Had a kitchen area (stove and oven, sink), ect. The sides to the bed, once pulled out, were solid fiberglass. We were able to set it up in about 10 minutes. So don't be discouraged about pop-ups, as there are easier ones to set up. The one this gentleman has just has all the bells and whistles.

That wouldn't have been a problem when I was younger but I'd be working through the night to get it together now. I like popups but am too afraid of bears...hungry bears trying to rip through the canvas to get inside at my food. This one's pretty high up so I'd just have to remember not to leave step ladders, trash cans, tool boxes and other stuff that they can climb on out overnight. Those snap on lights and fans are damn cool! Leave a blade of some kind in a drawer somewhere in case there's a fire and you can't get the door open. But that is a really nice popup. To those who say "too much work" I want to remind them that nothing good ever comes easy, my friends. The veteran works to make good things happen while the civvies sit on the sidelines and whine. I hope your lady found some relief for your weekend. Allergies suck. Poor thing. Enjoy your lives. That's all that matters. Happy camping.

  • @SB4E.2
    @SB4E.2 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Good job for first time. 👏👏👏 And as others said, not getting frustrated was pretty cool! Sorry for all the “too much work” comments. To each their own. I tell ya... you seen our aframe tour video.... we have a lot of work moreso because we bring lots of stuff. We like stuff!!! We like doing stuff outside. 😂 But the plus of set up is for one, it’s rewarding. I mean it’s camping... setting up camp is a thing for some. Busy work... we like busy work. Second, on a medical standpoint... before our aframe, we were both not active and had health issues from that lifestyle! Now.... moving our bodies while setting up, has helped all of those issues! Literally gone! So as much as we’d love a park and sit... we don’t want one as well. 😉 Every thing we set up is free exercise! In time it all gets faster of course when your system is down pact. (Then you buy more stuff!🤣)
Another side note pro for us....small units fit in cool places I wouldn’t give up for the world. (Including HOA home storage in the garage happiness for us.) That includes being two feet from a shore line literally! That is our favorite and also well worth what sometimes takes us half hour or more to level. (Our favorite area has quite an incline near shore.)
Point being.... when you figure out what you like it’s all worth it, albeit a little thing that needs setup or a big thing that needs land or space to store it on.
🤗 And I swear I have seen large campers, 5th wheels, etc., with just as much crap brought outside to set up as we have! 😆
In regards to full trailer campers compared to pop ups ....Let’s not even get into better gas mileage... easier to tow.... not having to worry about windy driving hazards and back up parking for those uncomfortable with that.
Different strokes for different folks... positive attitude for each other’s camping style choice is the way to go!

Beautiful unit! After several times doing it the two of you will have it up in 15 minutes. Ours has a cassette toilet that we only use for #1. Handy for evenings. Then we roll it to the outhouse or showerhouse and drain it. We also have an add-a-room that zips onto the awning which effectively doubles our space and we out two four foot tables on an L-shape where we have our ice maker, dishwashing pans and three drawer unit. I put down puzzle pieces and lay our RV mat on top for a wonderful underlay. Lol. Soft on the feet when not wearing shoes.

So I watched you set this up your High Wall in this video about a year ago. Since then I've been trying to figure out which camper to buy. Fast forward to today.... in a few days I'll be picking up an almost brand new 2021 Viking tent trailer that will fit in our garage. Yay! So I'll be taking your experiences and applying them as we also go out in a week or so and set up for the first time. Thanks again for shooting this video and sharing it with us.

Thank you for showing us this set up! Both of you worked so hard - you did a great job and I wish you happy camping. I must say, though, that this was one more nail in the coffin for popups for me; I’m going directly to a hybrid camper. Love the tent ends… but all the Velcro, door set-up, and a wet bathroom were too much for me.

Nice job , you get faster after a few times of setting up , we level the camper first then the stableizers go down and then lift the roof , as soon as the roof is up put on those safety bars just in case . We use a small hand level on the bunk support bars to level . You could probably feel me helping you push on that front canvas roof ,mine is still snug after 2 years but not bad .you already discovered the corner zippers we unzip to within a inch or so of the top, they can be stubborn to line up if unzippef all the way with tension on the canvas .we can tow our popup with any vehicle in the house and it stores in the garage , not so with a hardside so that made our decision easy and the extra work worth it , congrats and have fun , from a fellow rockwooder .

Thats a sweet camper, real nice. You have all that room with a bathroom and still the convenience of a pop up camper. A nice decision and purchase. I liked watching someone set it up first time instead the usual joe pro. I felt for the camera person, I suffered with seasonal allergies and hay fever when I was younger... you did a great job shooting the video while all stuffed up. Enjoy the trips and memories.

When both people are setting it up it’s quicker, the more you setup and down the quicker it becomes. Yes we use a drill so much quicker. I think it’s fabulous. Ours is similar but we don’t have that pop out on the side. We love it. Happy camping.

It’s a good idea to have a checklist to do the setup in order so you don’t miss something that causes extra work during setup. Plugging in a couple days before will cool your refer down before heading out. Also running the fridge on gas during travel will keep it cool. Enjoy your pop up. We are on our third. We just got a HW296.

Yes, This was my very first time. It did get better the more I practiced. I think one of the problems with this one is that it was a high wall. Everything was placed higher up, bigger and heavier. If I were to do it again...probably just a regular 8 or 10 foot box pop up

A-frame vs pop-up tent camper. A-frame less than 5 min to set up with no canvas to dry out . Pop-up 30 min to set up with canvas to dry out. No canvas flapping in the wind for A-frame vs a lot of noise from the canvas in the wind and neighbors in the tent pop-up. If you don't need the extra bed space the A-frame is the way to go.

    • @coryCuc
      @coryCuc 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Well yeah lol. The extra bed is the reason why people get a pop up to begin with. That's like saying, I have a Toyota Camary. Great fuel economy, cheap parts and labor. So if you don't need that v12 engine in your Lamborghini, I'd go with the Camary.

Thank you for actually showing how this pop-up is put together! I've watched several videos on Pop-up trailers, but all of them are already "magically" up and together! It is nice to see how it's done! I am even more vertically challenged than you, plus as a female I don't have the arm/shoulder strength that even the smallest male would have! I would have to do a "pop-up trial" prior to any purchase, just to make sure that I would be able to open and setup the camper myself.

We've owned our hiwall 276 for about 4 years. Take a magic marker to mark the slot positions for the support poles. My wife and I devide and conquer. She does the inside and I get the outside. We have had mixed results as far as build quality we bought ours used so we had some issues. Bring a few tools and keep an eye out for loose parts.

Just caught your video. Very nice. We have a Flagstaff HW27 ks from 2013. very similar in a lot of ways. We went with it cause the Kitchen slide meant I didn't have to be inside very much. The wife is height challenged so I made her a double step to help her get in the bunks. One step would help you guys in setting the poles. Have fun, in the camper. open the screens and you almost feel like your outdoors. Bless you guys, the adventure begins.
